Brandon Banks does the John Wall dance after returning a kickoff for a TD against the Lions!
Official Total Roster Makeover Thread
With the team languishing despite being in luxury tax territory I'd like to open the floor to brainstorming ideas for how we can most effectively cut salary and, hopefully, get young players and picks, young players and expiring contracts for our overpaid veterans. Of course, if you have ideas for how we can retool and remain competitive rather than rebuild, then I am all ears.
Let's keep in mind that, despite how terrible we are we, we still have a number of pieces that other teams covet. See my rundown after the jump
Trading Caron
I'd like to brain storm how we can ship him out of town without other teams realizing its a fire sale.
Prada through out an idea in the Piston's recap thread about trading him to Houston for Battier and Lowry. I suggested that we try to get cap relief too by including Stevenson and Prada suggested getting Brian Cook's expiring contract.
So one idea is:
Butler + Stevenson for Battier, Lowry and Cook
I think we can probably do better (maybe we can get a better young PG prospect or a similar package with a draft pick included) so I'd like to see what other people can come up with.
This season's alternate jersey?
Does anyone know what the Wiz will use as their alternate jersey this season? I am holding out hope that we go back to the red, white, and blue Bullets jersey so that I can finally procure a real one with current players on it (not that I'm not also looking to grab find legit Bernard King, Bobby Dandridge, and Elvin Hayes old school jerseys).
The run of the Gold Jersey and Zephyrs jersey has been pretty weak, and so whatever the year we use I hope its in the Bullets era.
Chad Ford Gives the Bullets an A
"Grade: A
Washington had the No. 5 pick in the draft but traded it, along with Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov, to the Wolves for Randy Foye and Mike Miller. The Wizards understood that they were unlikely to get a player at No. 5 who could crack their rotation, and they wanted to be serious contenders right away in the East. I think the addition of Foye and Miller puts them there.
The Wolves were willing to pay significantly more than any other team, giving up two solid starters. I don't think the Wizards could've done any better in getting value for the No. 5 pick."
I'm kind of baffled that the T-Wolves get a C+ for bagging Rubio even if I agree with his analysis of the dangers of Rubio staying in Spain and the stupidity of the Flynn pick, but the Wiz get an A for accidentally passing on Rubio (even if its defensible) and SELLING DeJuan Blair.
Are Bullets Forever readers the only people who realize that the Miller/Foye trade created a huge need for physical presence and rebounding, that it was a MIRACLE that Blair was available to #32, and that it is a travesty that Ernie comitted to paying the luxury tax, but still sold a pick that could have netted such a perfect fit.
O well, Chad Ford was way off when he speculated that the Bullets wanted to cut salary and now he is way off for praising the Bullets for trying to have it both ways.
