Manu ex Machina

I go by "GMT" (my initials) on 48minutesofhell.com and "manu_maniac" on spurstalk.com. However, after finding PtR, it has become home for all of my Manu loving news, and I've found it hard to post elsewhere, now.
Oh yeah, I'm a SA-Town native and a biology major at UTSA (UT expat).

NBA And NHL Playoffs: Does Anyone Really Care?
An unexpected NPR article has an interesting take on the crappy media coverage both our Spurs and all of the NHL are handed. When Deford first mentions Duncan, I thought he was taking a swipe at him, but he's just being facetious. It actually turns out to be a swipe at ESPN.
Leonard Continues to Improve
This is pretty awesome. Adding to the info from the fanshot Chilai provided recently, I also just read in this ESPN article about an all rookie exhibition game, Team Leonard vs. Team Fredette (after much ballyhoo about Jimmer who lost the game, which was led by Kawhi with 24 pts), that Kawhi has put on FIFTEEN pounds of muscle! So, based off of Draft Express' measurements, he's at least 242 lbs. That's a pretty monstrous SF. I can't help but keep thinking that we'll really have another special player in silver & black.
Now all we have to do is keep waiting. . . .
Danny Green to Play With Union Olimpija (Slovenia)
Congrats to Mr. Green for nabbing a spot on a good (I think?) Euroleague team. It's not yet known if there's an out clause for him to possibly rejoin after the lockout. This is the same team that Davis Bertans is signed to, as well, so there's potential for Bertans to get some more knowledge about the Spurs organization, I suppose.
Also, here's a 48MoH article about it that I just found as well. Apparently, he will likely return after the lockout.
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute Or: Why I Want Him in Silver & Black
Mbah a Moute has been one my "does want" list since we lost Brucey. Here's why in Luc's own words from the ESPN article.
Also, here's a bit of my speculation on what he could do for the team. He can't give you a corner 3-ball, but we don't need it from him, plus we could help him get there. Defense, defense, defense. If we can pry him loose from the Bucks, maybe we eventually start him at the 3 and give Jefferson a "Manu-esque" roll off the bench (I know, comparing RJ and Manu may leave some feeling nauseous), allowing him to improve bench play.
Malik Hairston's team Montepaschi Siena in Euroleague Semifinals
I just noticed this link to watch the game on ESPN 3 online. The game is almost over, though, and Hairston's team Montepaschi Siena (Italy) is down 7 against Panathinaikos Athens. Apparently Malik is one of their best players, as he's in for some important last minutes. It looks like they'll lose, unfortunately. They lost, 69-77.
Jeffers In, Novak Still In (Edited)
Jeffers will sign a 10-day contract as Novak is let go. invited back to the bench.
Expected/10. Congrats to Othyus on his 10 day contract. Let's hope he might be the guy worth hanging onto.
It's an ESPN Insider link, by the way, so it might not work too well misinform you. I'm not a subscriber, otherwise I'd copy & paste.
NBA Retrospective: DeJuan Blair
The Grizzly Blair is featured today in Draft Express' line of articles that compares the development of current young NBAers to their college days. It's a pretty interesting read with an objective view on the pros & cons of his game.
ESPN Rookie Rankings: Gary Neal at #5
I had a feeling that, since we're making a few blips on the national radar now, we might see our guy the Nail-gun topping the list. Well, there he is at #5. If anyone actually subscribes to ESPN, would you kindly post their analysis of him? Okay, I'm done with my thinly veiled request of a fanshot.
A Response to Artis Gilmore's "Doomsday Scenario"
After Tim C.'s wise suggestion, I've made my lengthy comment on Artis Gilmore's recent fanpost into a more easily digested fanpost. Exact same dish, but with a bit nicer presentation.

Popovich: Splitter injury not devastating
This article comments on how Splitter's injury is pretty trivial. This is the best part:
"Popovich joked Friday about the unlikely nature of Splitter's injury.
The plantaris muscle is a vestigial structure found at the back of the foot. Like an appendix or wisdom teeth, it serves no biological or physiological purpose.
'It's basically worthless, but he hurt it,' Popovich said."
The next page of the article mentions Anderson's progress in getting back to game shape and then talks about Bonner being listed (19) as one of the smartest professional athletes (so that's how he got that contract!). Duncan makes a funny comment about it as well.
Nash sits out practice with ailing hip
All I have to say is that his body is having memories of the hip check.

Pop on Dirk: 'He's great at selling' foul calls"
Pop one-ups Cuban's hate for our Spurs, haha!
Hill Ready For Sunday
Parker's word is good enough for me here. "He's going to play. He needs to play. I'm not worried about that. George is a tough guy."
Haha, but Hill actually was cleared for liftoff, in case you were too lazy to click the link.
Avoidable ContusÃon: Manu Ginobili Must Remain a San Antonio Spur
This is simply an article about something that's a no-brainer to the members of the Church of Manu. It's a long, but good read.
Nocioni ready to move on

This is for those that still want to see Chapu in silver and black. Apparently, he's alright with the Kings trading him in the future, which in my eyes means he basically wants out. I never noticed that his contract is so large ($7.5mil), which would really complicate the Ginobili and possible Splitter situation this summer if we make attempts at signing him, but you never know what might happen. Maybe a sign & trade involving Mason & Bonner? I'm still a supporter of Bonner, though. I think I'll keep rambling and mention that it would be awesome if we pick-up Landry since he's a free agent.
On another note, while I was fiddling with the trade machine, I noticed it said that Temple's contract is $88,826 for TWO years. This seems like a typo to me. any insight?
Ilgauskas Waived By Wizards

As unlikely as it is, I would like to hear that the Spurs FO might be trying to sway Big Z over here. As we all know, he's a legitimate seven footer at 7'3", something that we don't have and that Pop doesn't even try to hide, i.e., small ball. The article reports that the Mavs are interested in him. If they manage to get him, somebody's something will end up in a vice somewhere. I'm just sayin'.
