My weekend riding The Mortirolo, Gavia and Stelvio. One of the best!

The classic Stelvio Last year some friends asked me to organise a trip to Mount Ventoux. It went really well that we all agreed to do it again and we decided that a Dolomites weekend fitted the...

Team Sky - The's (almost) official

So the ongoing question around Team Sky has been answered............just about. Sir Bradley Wiggins is out, or so he says....

Where to watch Liege-Bastogne-Liege?

Hiya, So off to Belgium next week with a group to ride Saturday's fondo. We're staying to watch the pro race on the Sunday but we have to definitely catch a 18.15h train from Liege to connect with Eurostar for home. I will have my car so does anyone know some good places to watch the race and take in the atmosphere? Any hints, ideas greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Cav for MSR!

Certain members of PDC will be very happy about this. I'm one for sure. All of a sudden OPQS are back in the game at MSR big time.

The price of used Pinarello's has just dropped :(

Unbelievable this keeps on happening. I can't understand why the teams or the organisers don't hire security staff for nights. Way cheaper than the rise in their insurance.

Helmets - A breakthrough?

Not carbon, nor graphene...............paper!

Michael Rogers tests positive for clenbuterol at Japan Cup.

See:- Now this is hot off the press and refers to test results from the recent Japan Cup. ...

Cavendish "No more MSR"

That's it then. The only Classic in the year where the sprinter's had a chance is gone it would appear. Sagan could do it but he's not a pure sprinter to be fair. Griepel, Kittel, Dengelkolb, Goss etc......will any of them survive the new climb. I think it's a shame if the sprinters are done for, it's not really fair is it? I preferred the different races, profiles etc. It's a bit like tennis where the surfaces and balls have been so homogised the matches are pretty much the same throughout the year.

Some new kits for 2014

Hi All, Quite a funny blog from Eurosport on the new kits for 2014. Let's face it doesn't matter what kit...

Ricco rides again - Won't he please, please go away.

Still if he announces when he's going to stage these PR stunts then hopefully one of us can go and push him off the edge anywhere above Chalet Reynard.

Marat rides with Johnny Hoogerland and Matteo Carrara......and gets wet!

Hi there, I thought I'd let you know about today's little spin. It was arranged by Cadence Performance Centre a reletively new bike shop in Crystal Palace, south London. The inhouse pro is...

Horner leaves Radioshack/Trek.

So the vagueness continues. Would I right in thinking this is the only time a current GT winner can't get a place? I mean, if Horner is clean, it doesn't look right does it?

Giro Scandal at RCS

What's going on here? CEO kind of suspended, kind of not, millions missing. Very Italian!

Wiggins plans the way out finishing with Rio Very interesting article in the Times with an edited version on CN above. The original article is available online to...

My new ride.

So after much testing and trying I've gone for the aspirational rather than the practical. Matteo Carrera has just retired from the peloton with Vaconsoleil. He is now the in house consultant with Cadence Performance in South London. I've for to know him through training rides and coaching. I'd previously ridden a Noah Fast on a very windy day and loved it however the price tag is pretty steep at just under 4000€ for the frameset alone! Matteo's just got himself a Passoni and put his Noah up for sale. Enter me! Spend a large chunk of today getting fitted. Being Italian he loves the short leg set up which feels weird but has worked wonders for my knee pain when he fitted my other bike. We went out for a spin with Matteo videoing me and we took the south London traffic by surprise! For you tech fiends its dura ace di2, dura ace c35 clinchers, rotor 3d+ 52/36 Q, deda cockpit and speedplays. Look out for some Strava PR's hopefully very soon!

Transfer season starting early and this is is biggie!

Petacchi to be lead out for Cav which although previously reported, still seems like a strange one to me. Uran though, that is a GC coup methinks and gives OPQS a serious GT option.

Any PDC riders doing the Etape?

Anybody going? Be nice to meet up maybe ride a little before I get dropped at the first road bridge.

Tech-Mech - Scott Foil Premium

Anyone owned/ridden one? Any thoughts? Thanks.

July vacation for Wiggo

Team Sky Press Release. Sir Bradley Wiggins has been ruled out of selection for the Tour de France due to an ongoing knee condition - Very interesting combination of reasons...

Tech Mechs - Big birthday present part 2.

For Background see Now as it happens I am an eBay beast and I've managed to pick up all the Dura Ace Di2...

This year's Etape - An assessment.

I wondered if anyone was going? Might be good to meet up. Also interested in how the training was going and usual tech geeky stuff like gear ratios. It's 130km with 3500m of climbing which...

'Tis the season of sun and............................shaving?

Well the sun is here and hopefully to last for a good while after what's been a very poor year or so's weather in Europe. Now back in the day when most of you were in school, my legs were shaved...

Tech-mechs Advice on big present sought.

So next year is a BIG birthday for me and I'm seriously thinking about a new bike, well at least frameset and groupset. I do have a decent budget as it's been in the pipeline for some time. I...

Wiggins not for the TDF........probably.

Interesting micro interview from CN. Apart from tearing up last year's plan he just about, just about declares that LBL and Giro are the targets. Reading between this and previous accounts it seems that Froome is the top dog for the TDF despite Brailsford obviously holding doubts about Froome's durability. Froome won Oman well though clearly it's not a GT. The other admission I found amazing was Wiggins weight drop from off season to peak season 12 kilos!!!!! That's huge surely? Yes I know he's an elite athlete etc but I was staggered at that amount. Not quite in the Ullrich league but you get my drift.

For bike geeks

What do you think about this set up? The drop from saddle to bars is massive. And the cranks, I didn't think he was that tall but he hoh he rides a zillion times better than me ;)

Merckx frames

Anyone know anything about the Merckx emx-7 frameset? It's a 2013 model but a few places have it at 50%!!!!!! off. I'm mindful of "anything that sounds too good to be true probably is........".

Movistar New Kit - Like it

Very neat methinks. But that's just my opinion. I've always like their kit despite the "blue and green should never be seen" mantra.

Lampre kit - Er..........really?

The pea green is not a beneficial addition. Or in more earthy terms, it's a total puke job!

My 3 favourite moments of 2012.

So these are mine. I could have quite easily filled the top 3 with Tom Boonen's spring but that was too easy. So I've tried to scratch my tiny brain and come up with moments you may well have...
