Do You Care About the Ducks' Ranking?

The Ducks moved up to #12 in the AP poll this week. 2 teams above them, Virginia Tech and Ohio State, both lost, but they were jumped by Georgia Tech. I was slightly upset about this for about 2 seconds when I realized for the first time in years, I don't really care what the national rankings are.

The chances of the Ducks winning out is, in my opinion, not very realistic. The PAC 10 is tough this year, and every game left on the schedule will be tough. But even if they do win out, so many teams would have to lose that the chances of getting to the National Championship Game have to be 100-1 or worse. It seems at this point that the shoot-for-the-stars goal of this season should be the Rose Bowl. To make the Rose Bowl, it doesn't really matter what the rankings are; it's all about the standings.

I usually watch both the polls and the standings as a season progresses, but for the first time that I can remember I don't really care that much where the Ducks are ranked in the polls. What are you paying more attention to, the ranking of the Ducks, or the PAC 10 standings?

Congrats to Ducks coach Chip Kelly for responding so well after what had to be one of the most frustrating opening nights in coaching history. Oregon's offense again looks crisp and explosive, and its defense has gotten pretty salty. Maybe picking them as a preseason top-10 team wasn't so foolish after all. It's crazy what can happen in a month.

There's a lesson here that my colleagues in the press box and I never seem to learn. We can write off a team as a fraud or a pretender after a terrible performance, but then a few weeks later, it's back in the race for a BCS bowl. Happens every year.

Places to Watch the Boise State Game

I'm going to be in Las Vegas for the Boise State game next week. Does anyone know a good "Duck-friendly" place to watch the game? Where is everyone else watching this first game?

I know the Chicago fans have their gathering places. Are there going to be any gathering spots in the Portland area? How about other areas? Where are the Boise State fans that are reading Addicted to Quack planning to gather? I will be representing in Vegas...I'm going to be there for 5 days, and I'm brining 5 jerseys with me (Joey Harrington, P-Chung white, JJ green, J-Stew black, Blount from Arizona blackout game).
