Aaron Brooks' Arrival

I wanted to write a post about this because I'm not sure how much attention everyone pays to the NBA playoffs, and a Duck is emerging as a new star. I attended the Blazers vs Rockets Game 2 playoff game last night in Portland. I've been a Blazers fan all my life and that was the most incredible basketball game experience of my life.

Before the series started I commented to some friends that my perfect scenario is for the Blazers to win the series, and for Aaron Brooks to GO OFF. For those of you not paying attention, Brooks is killing it. Last night he scored 11 points in the last 30 seconds (bullet #4) and had the Blazers fans beside themselves. Since the game was in hand I was just kind of laughing.

This is where it got really funny for me. I attended the game with 2 friends: the one to my right is a huge Arizona Wildcats basketball fan. The friend to my left is an OS fan. I made a comment about how Brooks just seems to have that killer instinct "clutch" factor. The Arizona guy immediately said, "this isn't funny, I think he had 2 game winners against us his last year at Oregon and now he's tormenting me again".

Oh yeah...as I was leaving the fans were all fired up in the concourse. They were chanting and cheering and generally going crazy. The friends with me made a comment about how crazy the environment was. I said, "yeah this is pretty fun, but you should come to a Ducks football game. EVERY game is like this!"

Blount Update

Rob Moseley has a story on what happened in the Blount suspension. After reading it, I came away feeling like Blount doesn't take it seriously and hasn't learned anything from it.

“It wasn’t a really big deal, but that’s how they’re taking it,” Blount said. “They did the action they thought was appropriate at the time, because they didn’t want anybody on the team thinking, ‘Oh, he thinks he’s special, he doesn’t have to come work out.’ And I respect their decision.”

It's nice to hear that he's still working out on his own, and it sounds like he should return. I, for one, am glad it's not academics!

My NFL team, the Chargers, is playing the Steelers this week in the playoffs. I've been on Behind the Steel Curtain for the past couple of days talking to their fans about the game. We got off on a tangent when I said that if both of the Steelers' QB's went down and DD came in the game, I'd probably start rooting for the Steelers to win. I asked what they thought DD's chances were of getting to the #2 spot in the next couple of years, and several of them said they think he will soon.

Then a guy came on and said that he thought I'd enjoy this article. It got me pretty excited at the thought of Dixon getting on the field in his rookie year. The Steeler fans seem really excited about him and sound like they recognize his playmaker ability and want to see him in the games.

Normally I would just do a FanShot, but thought this was worthy of a FanPost. ESPN is reporting that Steve Sarkisian is University of Washington's next head coach. Hopefully this weakens USC and then he turns out not to be a good head coach and UW keeps up the 0-12 seasons. Do you think this is a good hire for the Fuskies? Do you think that this will be a big hit to USC, or will they just keep rolling along?
