Damon versus Gardner
Well seeing that the 2010 regular season has ended I find it my duty to compare these two ball players. Many have argued, screamed, belittled, and fought tooth and nail how Damon is better and , like myself, how Gardner is better. Opinions are like Mustangs, everyone has one.....wait....I think it is Mustangs or is it something else??? Anyways, numbers don't lie only people do so here goes the comparison:
Gardner is first best?
Maybe not, but these stats say so. The season is almost a quarter of the way there and Brett "Freakin" Gardner , Gritty Gutty Brett Gardner or "Holy Crap this guy is Freakin' Fast!" Brett Gardner has some decent stats and at this point he is: FIRST in Batting Average on ................
"The Best Team On This Green Earth, Ladies and Gentleman, YOU'RE NEW YORK YANKEES!!!! ,
.323 (according to MLB.com), GGBG is also first in...
Gardner versus "the Doubters"
Hello Yankee fans, it has been 18 games and even though it is too early to confirm my predictions of our best left fielder on the roster, Brett Gardner, I will anyways. All through out the off season I have personally fought close to 50-100 Yankee fans opinions on our best kept secret, Brett Gardner, otherwise known as GGBG. Many of you know that we have bumped heads on many occasions regarding my thoughts and yours of GGBG at this great Yankee Fan site. So here are the truths and remember , "Numbers don't lie only people do."
We all know this Yankee lineup has All-stars, Hall of Famers, and big hefty contracts to prove their worth. Gardner has been just as steady and productive as anybody in the lineup, and has been much better than the so-called "competition" for left field. Here are Brett Gardner's stats as of 4/25/10 :
G: 16 AB: 49 R: 12 H: 16 2B: 1 3B: 1 RBI: 5 BB: 7 K: 5 SB: 9 OBP: .421 AVG: .327
So, he leads the league in stolen bases, is second in batting average ( Cano is first and this is based on 40 or more at bats), and Gardner is FIRST on the team with a .421 OBP. He is First in OBP on the team ?!?! That means he is on base more than the "always walking never swinging" Nick Johnson and he is on base more times than Nick " well he hits some home runs and gets on base a lot so his average doesn't have to be above his weight" Swisher.
Did I mention he leads the league in Stolen bases? I did. Besides these great stats, Mr. Gardner has great range in the outfield and I think most will agree his defense is above average and definitely better than Thames. ( I still cant believe Mr. Thames has made it possible for everyone to know, and as little as he has been in left field, that his glove is as bad as Damon's arm!!
I have predicted that Brett Gradner, GGBG, will have 50 SBs, .375 + OBP, and bat above .280 by the end of the year with at least 400 ABs. He is off to a great start and in no way should he rest on his laurels with these stats, this early, but it sure is nice to see GGBG off to a great start.
So, I ask the "doubters" and fans alike:
What are your thoughts thus far on Brett Gardner and has he won you over yet?
