Bleeding Green Nation My not so knee-jerk reaction to the TEN. Game

First of all, let me start by saying this is not a rant about how bad the Eagles are and how every coach should be fired immediately, like the ones we read every week after a loss like this one. Rather I will show a couple points that baffle me about this team and offer a little bit of my perspective.

1) Kevin Kolb is the real deal, the problem is he doesn't trust his Oline, (and who could blame him) and he runs out of the pocket even if he is not pressured, but I guess that can be worked out with a little bit more experience.

2) Why on earth did we deviate so much from the way we played last week? I know a lot of people don't like "gadget plays" but the point of this game (offensively) is to keep the defense on its heels and not knowing what to do, we have the personel to excel in this kind of scheme, lets use it.

3) Antonio Dixon. He is playing like an extremely good starter, rushing the passer, collapsing the pocket, getting TFL AND hustling to the sidelines to make tackles. If I was the coach, it would be a hard decision to bench this guy.

4) Defense. Contrary to the numbers the defense, in general, is playing good football, swarming to the ball and hustling every play, its just a couple of individual performances that are really screwing up this team (cough, E. Hobbs). Which brings me to my next point.

5) Why do our corners cover a specific side of the field?! Why do we keep Ellis Hobbs on Britt if he has burnt us for 200 yards, and keep Asante on freaking Washington and D.Williams?! this makes no sense to me whatsoever, football is a game of matchups,  and its incredible that McD can't figure out that moving Asante over Britt could have helped at least a little.

6) I don't think we are using LeSean McCoy nearly as much as we should, in the ground or air. I don't think this need much more explaining.

7) I have not been a fan of Ernie Sims, but this was in my opinion his best game so far. He didn't overpersue or get blocked as easily as he used to and I actually liked what I saw. Same for Fokou, actually it was a pretty good game by our whole Linebacker corps.

8) The interior Oline played like garbage, every other play there seemed to be a DT coming in unblocked. I actually like McGlynn As the Center, but they reaaally need to step up their game.

Anyways, as I said, it is not my intention to bash on the Eagles, lets hope they get it toghether in this break, but I think these point are a little worth mentioning and debating over, what do you think?

Bleeding Green Nation I need some real insight.

I watched the 2010 scouting combine sporadically this last week, and honestly I don't really put much stock in the result from it and only watch beacause this part of the year is the part that sucks the most, so any football is great.

Anyway, I was watching the DB's workout and I was very impressed by one kid in the positional drills. His name is Kyle McCarthy S from Notre Dame and he is about 6'0 210 (not official). I don't really watch callege ball, and any higlight film is just misleading. From what I saw in the drills he was extremely fluid in his movements, and caught the ball very well.

I don't know the measurable drills results and that's where you come in.

If anyone is fan of the Irish or just an avid college ball fan and have some insight into this kid I would love a breakdown.

Bleeding Green Nation The pass rush

You know it, I know it, and well, the cowboys now know it. If a team neutrlizes or slows down Cole, we have absolutely no push from the other lineman and absolutely no pass rush. So why not shake things up a bit? Fouku is now starting as our SAM LB so why not give Gocong a shot at LDE? we got absolutly nothing to loose and he was a pretty good pass rusher while in college.

I mean, I know this won't be heard by the people who actually control the gameplan but I would like to hear your opinions about this. Parker, Howard and Clemons are either old, or just not that good. Maybe Gocong can give a little something extra or at lest new to a pretty stale DLine.

Bleeding Green Nation Questions about the Spoon.

I have a couple of questions about the newest member of the team, Will Witherspoon. After his first game as an eagle, I doubt anyone has any regrets about the signing, he looked really good filling that MLB spot, so here are my questions.

1) How long is this guy signed for?

2) Where do you see him playing when, and if, Stew comes back?

He was signed to be a MLB but Big Stew has been great at the position. He's also played WLB, but i'm kinda liking what I'm seeing out of Akeem Jordan, and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think he has the body of a SAM.

So, what do you think about this?

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles holes

Heading into a much needed early bye week, the eagles are still making a lot of changes to their 53 man roster. This offseason and the start of the season has been a craaaazy ride, filled with a lot of surprises, and a lot of tragic injuries. After a 2 week break Eagles starting QB will probably be back under center. Backup Kevin Kolb has impressed the mayority of the fans and has cemented himself as the backup quarterback, and Mike vick, well he's still a project.

So, obviously, the odd man out is 4th stringer Jeff Garcia, but heres the question:

who are the eagles going to bring to the team?

I guess right now the biggest hole is in the LB position IMO, but who would you bring?

Trotter? Seriously? Brooks? I'm not at all acquainted with the free agents right now and thats why I want your comments and opinions.

Where do you see the biggest hole in the team? and who would you sign to fill it?

Floor's yours gentlemen.

Bleeding Green Nation Say what you want about Andy but...

Man this guy can find excelent value in draft picks. I mean, aside from a couple of first round busts, he certainly has a gift for finding great guys with low picks.

I really don't feel like making the actual research, that i'll leave up to you, but here are a couple of examples. I'll just mention guys that are still on the team:

1) DeSean Jackson: 49th pick of the 2008 draft (2nd round) WR Cal. I know the second round isn't exactly a bad pick but look at all the receivers that were taken at this particular year and round. (see redskins wonderful trio) and honestly tell me he hasn't been worth a hell of a lo more than that.  900+ receiving yards as a rookie and 3 touchdowns (1 from an 85 punt return) in three games this season, this kid is going to be a monster.

2) Brent Celek: 162nd pick of 2007 draft (fifth round) TE Cincinnati.  This guy has been an absolute monster since the start of the playoffs last season and he is looking even better every week. already has two touchdowns and 2 100 yard games. Also he´s  been the definition of a warrior this season, dragging defenders for first dows and refusing to g o down every play. To think we franchised LJ last season.

3) Jason Avant: 109th pick of the 2006 draft (fourth round) TE Michigan. Great hands, great routes, great attitude, the most reliable receiver on this team for now, period.

4) Brian Westbrook:pick 91 of the 2002 draft (third round) RB Villanova. well... you know.

5) Trent Cole: 138th pick of the 2005 draft (fifth round) DE Cincinnati. This guy has been one of the cornerstones of the eagles D. Recording about 37 sacks. Always plays with a high motor and is the only Dlineman that goes for pretty much the whole game. And the very best thing about this guy is we got this pick from Washington, in trade for.... wait for it... yes, Mister James Thrash.

6) Stewart Bradley: 87th pick of the 2007 draft  (third round) LB Nebraska. He was a monster in the middle of the eadles defense (lead the eagles in tackles i think?) and was en route to probably a pro bowl season before he injured his knee.

7) Sheldon Brown: 58th pick of the 2002 draft (second round) CB South Carolina. I don´t know if many will agree with me here, but I just love this guy. He is as hard hitting as they come in his position, and is also a great cover corner.

Stock Rising: Kevin Kolb and Lesean Mccoy (both 2nd rounders) have started the season impressing a lot of eagles fans, and S Macho Harris (5th round) has had a pretty good start, nothing to really talk about, which i think is the best thing to expect from a  5th round rookie converted CB.. here's to hoping they keep on... keeping on.

Honorable Mention: Quintin Mikell UFA SS Boise St. this guy is everything you want in a player, 2nd team All-Pro last season, and he came cheap!

Well, thats my two cents. I know I probably left out a lot of names but feel free to contribute and/or refute any of my opinions.

So who do you think is the best pick for his value in the AR era?
