This is not a good summer to be a celebrity.
I suppose this won't mean much to you whippersnappers, except maybe answers to TV Trivia questions but now this week we've had Karl Malden [Streets of San Francisco] and Mollie Sugden [Mrs. Slocombe] die.

The Giants have made a seismic shift in their personnel today. They optioned struggling second baseman Emmanuel Burriss to Triple-A Fresno and purchased the contract of 25-year-old infielder Matt Downs, who just took a terrific round of batting practice.

Burriss has been exceptional defensively but has not had a hit since June 4. Downs was hitting .288/.333/.453 with six homers and 38 RBIs with the Grizzlies. I presume he will be in the lineup tonight.

Catcher Steve Holm was designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster for Downs.
Downs is in the lineup batting eiighth. Otherwise, the lineup is the same as yesterday's.

Suzuki raises money for Wilhite

A's catcher Kurt Suzuki and his wife, Renee, are raising funds for Jon Wilhite, his former college teammate who was injured in the car crash that killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others on April 9.

This part made me shiver: "The funds raised by the Suzuki's will help pay for Wilhite's rehabilitation costs after recovering from injuries that included an operation on April 15 to reattach his skull and spinal column after a rare separation."

REATTACH HIS SKULL??? /shudder

As mentioned in last night's game day thread, the little Giants will be in Stockton this week [thursday-sunday] playing the Ports.
Tickets are 10/7/5.

A much shorter drive for some of us than trucking all the way into San Jose.

OT: Is anyone into......photography?

I'm looking for a program [any OS] that will sort photos. For example: If I have a photo of 4 kids working together on a science project, I'd like to be able to type in the names of the kids, the word science ....and have the program place a copy of the photo into each of the 4 children's science folders. Any ideas?
