CC signs for 1.4 million. + 450,000 in performence incentives
"I think it's pretty easy to say, going into spring training, this is the best team the Brewers have had since I've been here," Counsell told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, commenting on the team's acquisitions of Greinke and Shaun Marcum.
"It's definitely exciting. They've made a big commitment," he said. "It's a great time to be a Brewer."

Minor League moves
C Angel Salome to Class AA Huntsville, moved off the AAA restricted list.
C Martin Maldonado promoted to AAA Nashville.
RHP Mark Rogers promoted to AAA Nashville. Rogers was 2-4 with a 3.60 ERA, with 32 hits and 28 walks allowed in 40 innings, with 31 strikeouts.
LHP Daniel Merklinger promoted to AA Huntsville.
IPad predicts Jeff Suppan to start season.
Burns to Nashville, Bush activated from DL
Burns will not be eligible to return until 9/6. This still leaves an open spot on the 40 man roster for an unknown addition, probably someone who will be added to the team on the 1st.
Irribarren optioned to make room for Suppan
That means the Brewers will go into the series with 13 pitchers. They will have to make another move on Thursday, when Dave Bush is scheduled to return from injury.
Also means Irribarren isn't eligible for Sept 1st callups. I think he will be available on the 4th.
Rumorville: Jarrod Washburn
Lots of rumors floating around after the game tonight, I was wondering what people smarter then me would trade for Jarrod Washburn.
Rumors started up when in Ken Macha's post-game he sounded optimistic when talking about Melvin looking for a starting pitcher. Tim Dillard still hasn't been named the starting pitcher for Tuesday's game, especially since Mike Burns pitched today which rules him out for a Tuesday start. Coincidentally Washburn's next start is also Tuesday, leaving til Monday afternoon to get a deal done, if thats what they're looking for.
Additionally, Tom H reported tonight that he "knows for a fact" the brewers are discussing Washburn and are hoping they can sign him after the seasons over since he is a wisconsin native.
Also, Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times said earlier "I'm starting to doubt he'll take the mound on Tuesday night in a Seattle uniform," Baker writes. "A big reason why is that things are happening in Milwaukee and some decisions will have to be made in short order."
Clearly shortstop is the main target for the Jays, J.J Hardy comes to mind first but I'm sure the Jays would prefer Escobar since he would be available for much longer. I'm sure either way the brewers would want something else as Washburn's contract is up after this season. Maybe a almost major league ready pitching prospect for Escobar and Washburn? I'm not all that familiar with the M's farm system. Or Jack Z maybe goes for a few lower level prospects since it is in fact only a two month lease.
Discuss.
Update: Brewers pulled Escobar out of a AAA game today. His team was getting blown out, but the Nashville squad waited all the way until the seventh inning to yank him.
Brandon Morrow has also been mentioned in trade rumors from the Mariners
McClung to 15-day DL, Dillard Called up
Dillard will almost certainly take Burns' spot in the starting rotation on Tuesday against the Nationals. Dillard is 10-4 with a 3.66 ERA in 19 starts this season for Nashville.
Macha was pressed about his plans for Tuesday but hesitated to make his intentions known other than to say that Dillard, Burns, and, somewhat surprisingly, Carlos Villanueva (6.18 ERA after taking the loss on Friday) were all internal options.
Brewers Sign Supplemental first rounder Kyle Heckathorn
Ringgold’s Kyle Heckathorn signed a contract Friday with the Milwaukee Brewers, according to his agent.
Victor Menocal of Career Sports & Entertainment confirmed that Heckathorn, who was drafted in the supplemental round after a successful three seasons at Kennesaw State University, signed and will report to the Brewers’ Helena, Mont., short season rookie league Monday. He will be introduced in Milwaukee Saturday at the Brewers’ game against Atlanta.
Bush to rest arm for 5 days, and be examined again Wednesday
Milwaukee right-hander Dave Bush will rest his tired pitching arm for five days, pushing back the Brewers’ plans for his return to the rotation.
Bush had MRI exams on his shoulder and arm Friday, two days after he felt tiredness during a minor league rehab start. The results showed no change from previous tests. Bush will rest through next Wednesday, then be examined again.
Bush went on the disabled list June 23 because of a small tear in his right triceps that caused him to feel fatigue.
Brewers call up Manny Parra from AAA - Nashville, designate reliever Chris Narveson (0-0, 8.44) for assignment.
Braun and Melvin feud over.
From McCalvy:
Brewers All-Star Ryan Braun addressed his spat with general manager Doug Melvin on Tuesday afternoon after the two met in Melvin's office at Miller Park.
Doug and I met this afternoon as soon as I got to the ballpark. We had a good discussion. I think both of us now have a clear understanding of where each other is coming from, and it's derived from being competitive. Everybody wants to win. It's not going to jeopardize my relationship with him and it's not going to jeopardize my relationship with the organization. I know they are trying their best to do their jobs. They always have, and always will. This is basically a misunderstanding
"I feel like my comments were kind of taken out of context a little bit, blown out of proportion. I was a little bit surprised that it became the story that it has. With that being said, I take full responsibility for everything that I say, for all of my actions. At times I'm emotional, I'm passionate, and it's derived from wanting to win. I definitely take full responsibility for everything.
"That being said, Doug and I are cool. Everything is good. I have no issues with anybody. I apologize if I offended anybody in the organization. That clearly wasn't my intent. I wasn't trying to disrespect anybody. I wasn't trying to call anybody out. It wasn't a conversation that I initiated; I was basically responding to a question. I try, when I'm dealing with the media, to be honest, and sometimes I'm honest to a fault. It gets me in trouble, and I recognize that. It's a strength and a weakness that I need to be more aware of at times.
"Moving forward, hopefully this is something I'll learn from. It's definitely something I'll learn from. We'll move on."
