Dickey Interview and his Thoughts on Staying with the Mets

Metsmerized Online has an interview up with Dickey from his visit the MLB Fan Cave to promote the Knuckleball movie. It's an interesting interview overall, but to save the you the despair of clicking the link here's really the take home quote from Dickey himself: MMO: What do you think your future is with the New York Mets? Dickey: I would love to be back. I mean there is a part of me that believes that it is the right thing to do to stay loyal to the team that gave you your shot. At the same time, at the age that I am, I want to win. I don’t know how much longer I will be playing, hopefully that could be for five or six more years as a knuckleballer but you never know. I would like to know that the team is going in the right direction and I think we have some pieces that are really good so hopefully we will be able to work something out in the offseason, but I love New York and the fans and have had a great time being a Met. Sandy Alderson Interview on WFAN

Some highlights from his conversation: In regards to Mike Pelfrey, Alderson said, while he and his staff are not sure what Pelfrey can bring from a qualitative standpoint, "We do know that he pitches through injury, he’ll pitch through pain and probably give you 200 innings." As such, "He probably would be one of five in most rotations." In regards to the current roster, he said he is concerned about the team’s depth, as well as the organization’s depth at Triple-A. In regards to Jordany Valdespin, Alderson said he can do things a lot of the other players can’t do. I don’t think he’s going to be on the club immediately," he explained. "But, I think he has a future with us and more than just a utility role."

2012 Baseball Farm System Rankings

John Sickels has done his rankings for all MLB teams and their farm systems. He has the Mets in the middle of the pack, which I think is very promising considering where it used to be in years past. It also doesn't hurt that we're ahead of the Yankees and the Phillies either! Let's Go Mets!
