ESPN's Wojo: Kiffen only cares about himself.

"Kiffin is a used car salesman with a whistle. Wait, that's not fair to used car salesmen."

You are Invited!

It appears the UT Vols and UCLA Bruins will be forever linked now that Lame Kitten has absconded to the University of South Central. Kiffin's move has made hundreds of thousands of southerners...

Big surprise, Athletes get breaks when it comes to admissions.

Another big surprise: "Ten schools did not respond to the AP's request and 18 other schools, including Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and USC, declined to release their reports."

Weis firing blow back?

Sporting News is reporting that 6-foot-4, 230-pound all-around athlete Anthony Barr has pared down his choices to Notre Dame and UCLA. (Eliminating SC, Michigan and Cal) While his parents are reportedly ND grads, I would like to think the coaching carousel in South Bend will give him second thoughts.

OC Register's Jeff Miller: Pete Carroll was wrong

A local writer wrote this. Pretty surprising except that it isn't one of the Local Trojan writers who wrote it, (Maya, Foster, et al) the captions to the accompanying photos were the best part, I thought.

An Oregon Duck fan's experience

I thought you guys would be interested in this first person description of South Central's dismantling at the hands of the Oregon Ducks.

Hilarious Vid

Somebody at good old Every Day Should Be Saturday put this mash up together celebrating the Ducks crushing defeat of the Troy Boys. I didn't see how I could embed this myself so I include the link instead.

He really said that?

"NCAA rules are applied equally to all individuals regardless of national prominence or level of athletic ability," Osburn wrote. "Not only does this mean that gifted athletes are not granted exceptions based on their ability, but . . . " No need to explain why this is funny here on BN.

'Nother dig at South Central's expense

Louisiana State fan Jerry Payne tailgates at every LSU game in a 40-foot motor home that retailed for $400,000 and comes complete with a master bedroom and bath, real wood cabinetry and a 37-inch hi-def TV. And if you think that's serious, some tailgaters are sponsored by beer companies. But you don't need a beer sponsorship or a rig so lavish USC could offer it as a recruiting incentive to a running back's parents.

Cal linebacker Mychal Kendricks guarantees victory.

"We have to win every game for now on," Kendricks said. "We can’t lose again. I don’t think we are, either. Actually, I know we’re not." When asked about the team’s confidence this week against UCLA, he said: "We’re going to win this week." When a reporter asked if he wanted to guarantee that, Kendricks simply repeated: "We’re going to win this week."

Did you know?

Every year Cal's home game against one of the LA schools is commemorated as the "Joe Roth Memorial game" in honor of one of their courageous and fallen heroes. This year, this weekend, it is against USC. I would have wanted USC to lose anyway but having read about the life of Joe Roth, and the significance of this game to Cal; I want the Trojans to lose even more. Go Bears! Beat South Central!

For the most dedicated of Tailgaters, now you can get your Tortilla chips in school colors! (I found these in a local 7-11 and wanted to share with my people on Bruins Nation. Then I saw they had them in Volunteers color, so I thought I would share with ya'll!)

I love the state of Tennessee and all of it's wonderful people

I wanted to express my eternal gratitude to the great Volunteer family of fans, students and alumni that made my trip to your great state such a memorable experience. After having spent the last hour and a half writing this up for Bruins Nation, I just didn't have it in me to do it all over again but I did want to share this with you. I hope this link to my fanpost will suffice. Extra special thanks go out to Volsrock1 (Craig) and Brandon and Rose.

Those geniuses at the U of South Central are at it again.

The NBA's Deadliest Shot

J.A. Adande, formerly of the L.A. Times has written a great article on Lew Alcindor and his unstoppable hook shot. Story comes with a good video about Kareem as well.

Came upon this today, and couldn't think of an appropriate thread to post in upon. Mildly funny.

ESPN reporting that OJ has talked to Feds.

The big thrust of the story is that his little brother is being investigated for his involvement as Guillory's go between in handing over cash. But it is very noteworthy that OJ has now talked to Federal Investigators about this. Two things I wanted to point out about ESPN's coverage, however: 1) I find it ironic that the WWL who has repeatedly failed to beat the competition to the punch when breaking these stories, now appears very busy investigating these allegations. 2) When they broke this story this morning, the latest development in a big story it was accessible on the Front Page. Now, just a few short hours later, you have to navigate to the Men's college basketball page to find the story. AND YET, in neither case is this story being trumpeted with a banner headline. I understand this story may not merit a headline on the main page, what with all the NBA and NHL playoff news; but, is there a single story that is bigger in College Basketball right now?

Spring Game FAQ

I would like to start discussion about the Spring Game this year. As much as I wanted to make last year's Spring Game, I was not able to make it. I am however locked in for this year's edition at the Rose Bowl. I'm wondering if I should treat this like any regular season, and drag out all the tailgating gear, tables, and chairs. Or is it more of a catered party for the Bruin Faithful? Please share your thoughts and experiences.

UCLA's John Williams composes for Obama Inauguration.

Everybody knows John Williams for his scores of Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. But few know he is a Bruin! I was proud to hear that he had scored the piece played by Yo Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. Today was a good day for the country.

What ever happened to . . . ?

  1. the Reggie Bush lawsuit?
  2. the OJ Mayo criminal investigation (credit card fraud)
  3. the OJ Mayo improper benefits investigation
  4. the media coverage of either
  5. the NCAA's credibility

Bruce Feldman Q & A with UCLA's Chris Joseph

"Feldman: When did you first set getting the Rhodes as a goal? Joseph: I was first made aware of it by Professor Don Morrison of the UCLA Anderson School of Business. He encouraged me to pursue it for the better part of two years" ESPN's Bruce Feldman interviewed our Chris Joseph about winning the Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford. It is a short but sweet interview. I thought the extended Bruin Family might like to read it, so I linked here for all who are interested.

The South Carolina coach, who had a history of taking verbal jabs at Kiffin’s predecessor, Phillip Fulmer, questioned whether Kiffin broke NCAA recruiting rules by contacting Tennessee recruits before he was cleared to do so.
