Rostislav Olesz released by Devils to Play in Switzerland

Lou Lamoriello let the media know today that Olesz would be leaving the Albany Devils for a job in Switzerland and the Devils would not be blocking him from doing so. From the story at Fire and Ice: "He came over with the intent and hope of playing in the NHL and he had some substantial situations he could have done in Europe," Lamoriello said. "He wanted to play in the NHL and when it didn’t work out he went to Albany and was outstanding with the players there. This is a quality individual, but I think he decided he played enough in the American League last year (with Rockford). It was a decision he made."

The NHL has announced that there will be a reality series that follows players on all of the teams involved in the Stadium Series leading up to and beyond the Olympics. Get excited, because that means the Devils will be involved.

Who is the Devils' Third Biggest Rival?

With Devils-Rangers coming up tonight, I got to thinking who the Devils third-biggest rival is right now. There are plenty of candidates, but it's hard to nail down just who is most deserving of the hate.

Devils Preventing Shots/Attempts but Not Goals

The Devils are a team which continues to prevent teams from shooting the puck, but still cannot seem to keep the puck out of the net. Is it still the goalies' fault, or could the defense actually be the ones to blame?

Ailing Devils Sleepwalk Through 4-0 Loss in Minny

The New Jersey Devils went to Minnesota and laid an egg in a game against the Wild without forwards Travis Zajac and Patrik Elias. Jon Merrill went down early and the Devils hardly attacked in the final two frames, leaving with a shutout loss.

How Bad Is the Metropolitan Division Right Now?

It's no secret that the Metropolitan Division has been substandard this year. Just how awful does this bunch look right now? When compared to all of the worst divisions in recent history, the answer is: "still pretty awful."

Devils Enter Crucial Two-Week Stretch of Season

The Devils have dug themselves an early hole this season, but they can still climb out if they can start putting together wins. The next two weeks loom large in New Jersey.

Tension Mounts Inside the Prudential Center

Take a look inside the Prudential Center for a totally real and not made up day around the team facilities.

Devils Outplayed; Grab a Point in 3-2 OTL to VAN

The Devils played the second game of their big Canadian road trip tonight in Vancouver. They were outplayed for much of the game, including a brutal 2nd period. They squandered a two goal lead, but in actuality were lucky get a point in an OT loss.

Don't Panic Just Yet

After last night's loss, it's understandable that people are getting a little antsy. Three games and 3 losses is not the most ideal way to start a season. Let's hold ourselves together for a few more games before we start firing and trading everyone.

Devils Start Hot, Crash and Burn, Fall in SO 5-4

After two periods, the Devils looked solidly in control with a 3-0 lead tonight. In the third period, everything came unglued, and the team blew the lead and fell behind 4-3. Elias would tie it late, but the Devils eventually fell in a shootout, 5-4.

The NHL season is scheduled to begin today. And since the games do not take place in National Parks or the Library of Congress, games will go on and meaningful NHL hockey will be be back in our lives.

2013-14 Devils Season Preview Pt 2: The Defensemen

The Devils will be returning 7 defenders from last season's squad in 2013-14. That means fans should have a pretty good idea what to expect this season from the blue line. Will we see one of the Devils' up-and-coming young defensemen, though?

Devils Sign Damien Brunner to Professional Tryout

In a bit of a surprise move, the Devils brought in a player who many fans coveted earlier this offseason. Damien Brunner was signed to a tryout contract on Monday and reported to camp today.

Devils vs. Rangers: Preseason Gamethread #1

Tonight marks the return of (sort of) competitive NHL hockey in New Jersey. Use this thread to rejoice (and discuss the game)! Go Devils and such.

Who is Most Poised for a Breakout Season?

With today being the day that rookies take the ice for the first time at Devils training camp (!), it seems like a good time to consider who could break out for the team this year.

2013 Top 25 Devils Under 25: Spot #16 Through #20

Spots 16 through 20 have some longshots for the NHL, but they also include some very talented individuals who could make an impact if things break the right way.

Is the Devils' New "Core" of Forwards Good Enough?

With the signing of Adam Henrique yesterday, it appears the Devils are pretty much done for the offseason, now. Is the core of this team good enough to be a consistent contender moving forward?

Andy Greene: The Devils' Rock on Defense

Andy Greene doesn't catch a lot of buzz around the NHL for how solid he has been for New Jersey, but Devils fans should certainly be appreciative of his contributions.

Will the Olympic Break Help the Devils This Year?

The Devils are a pretty old team right now. The Olympics could be a chance for the team to rest up but which players won't be getting that opportunity?

How Many Goals Will the Devils Give Up in 2013-14?

The Devils likely won't be lighting up a ton of scoreboards next season on offense. Can they do enough on defense and in net to make up for those shortcomings, though?

Hoping Age is Just a Number for the 2013-14 Devils

The New Jersey Devils were an old team last year. This offseason hasn't made them any younger. So is the Devils' age a number we should be worried about?

The latest offseason acquisition for New Jersey is Jaromir Jagr as the Devils continue to go young with their roster.

For the second season in a row, Devils fans have been forced to cope with the harsh realities of sports business, losing the second "face of the franchise" in as many years.

Ilya Kovalchuk has retired from the NHL. This is not a drill.

Projecting the Devils Scoring for Next Year

The Devils, coming off a substandard scoring year, will have a fairly different look heading into next season. Most notably, Clarkson moved on to Toronto and the Devils acquired Clowe and Ryder in free agency. So how does the scoring stack up now?

Who's Available on the UFA Market?

With the July 5th free agency kickoff fast approaching, let's take a look at some non-Devils options likely to be available. Let us also cross our fingers in the hopes that the Devils choose not to overpay anyone too much.

Martin Brodeur Wins NHL 14 Cover Vote

Martin Brodeur has won the NHL 14 cover vote, irrefutably proving that he is the best goalie ever and that anyone who roots for a team that isn't the Devils is a bad person.

J-S Dea: 2013 NHL Draft Prospect Profile

Jean-Sebastien Dea is a forward who, after being passed over in the 2012 draft, has made a lot of noise in the QMJHL. With his stock now risen, could he be someone the Devils grab in the late rounds of the draft?

Peter Cehlarik: 2013 NHL Draft Prospect Profile
