Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, the reigning National League MVP, won his appeal of a positive test for a performance-enhancing drug and will avert a 50-game suspension.

Wow. I do not know if I agree with this. He tested positive for a reason.

Cat Scratch Reader NFL Draft: Alshon Jeffery's Combine Training

Catching up with Alshon Jeffery’s Agent and Trainer 2 weeks prior to the NFL Combine.

While draft pundits sit at their desks with coffee in their hands and soon-to-levied criticism in their fingertips, former University of South Carolina WR standout Alshon Jeffery is working his ass off. I had a chance today to speak in depth with key members of his representation team, as well as his world-renowned trainer to get a glimpse into how Jeffery is preparing for his future life in the NFL.

Jeffery was an unstoppable force as a sophomore at South Carolina, and came into his Junior season being heralded as one of the nation’s 3 top prospects at the WR position along with Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon and Oklahoma’s Ryan Broyles. Broyles has fallen out of this elite group due to ACL injury while Blackmon, by most every account, has earned his spot in the cat bird’s seat as the consensus #1 WR prospect of 2012.

Alshon Jeffery declared for the NFL draft after what most viewed as a disappointing junior campaign. Although he only scored one less touchdown in 2011, he finished his junior season with a little over half the yards (762) that he was able to accumulate his electric sophomore season (1517). In my opinion, this is an easily defended drop-off, and certainly not of the enigmatic Jeff Fuller-variety. Jeffery’s quarterback, Stephen Garcia was kicked off the team due to off-the-field issues while USC’s only other true standout force on offense was RB Marcus Lattimore who was lost for the season in October due to injury. In watching back the film, it is obvious that teams were basing their defensive game plan around neutralizing the Gamecocks’ only remaining weapon in Jeffery. He was fighting consistent press and multiple coverage looks for the entirety of his junior season with lackluster QB play and no real "click" to the offense. If you watch back, your eyeballs should tell you this. Your eyeballs should also tell you that this is the great Alfonzo Dennard that Jeffery makes look like a middle-schooler at the 1:00 mark:

To be honest, these are very inconsistent. One guy has Tannehill at #6, and the other 3 have him not in the 1st round. One guy has Brockers at 12, the others also not in the 1st round.

Personally, I hate our selection.. Riley Reiff is good, but not top 10 good. He would not fit an immediate need and we could trade back and get Jonathon Martin who I like more, or even Mike Adams later. But going OT top ten is pointless unless Kalil falls to us.

This is astonishing.

Adam Schefter: "Without trade, Jerome Harrison doesn't get physical. Without physical, doctors don't find brain tumor. Trade might have saved his life."

Life is crazy.

"If I ever get a chance to play Carolina I’m going to make them pay for passing up on me," Dareus told WQAM radio host Michael Irvin.

About 50 NFL scouts, coaches, and executives (including 18 running backs coaches) were at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California to watch one private workout. And if you don't follow FCS football closely, you may not even know the name of the player they came to watch.

Call this the Year of the Terrifying Quarterback in the NFL draft.

Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker and Ryan Mallett have seemingly redefined one of the NFL’s greatest nicknames. They are the modern Fearsome Foursome.

And not in a good way.

"All I will say is that I’m glad I don’t need a quarterback this year," said an NFC general manager, who went on to say plenty more. That GM was one of three executives who had particularly harsh comments for the quartet of quarterbacks who are expected to go in the first two rounds.

Cat Scratch Reader The Carolina Panthers as an Organization (Re-signing Players)

One thing I have noticed is how players LOVE playing for the Panthers.  Julius Peppers became greedy, but besides him we have usually been able to resign players if we want them.  The atmosphere here is grand (and the "athlete friendly" ladies are aplenty in Charlotte), but it really boils down to the management.  We have done an excellent job in taking care of our players.

Great things about the Bravos

One mishap I noted:

And the pitching, while not knock-you-out like Philly or Atlanta, will get the job done. Especially the starters: Tommy Hanson(notes) and Tim Hudson(notes) have been diagnosed with Cy Young Syndrome

Uhhhhh..

"Why can’t you take a corner first?" Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. "A shutdown corner, or a very, very good corner who can harass the receivers, throw off their timing is important as it is because it’s turning into a passing league."

The deep defensive linemen class has been the talk of the NFL draft, and it could comfort teams who need pass rushers, knowing they still could find them later in the first round, if not the second and third, and create a higher premium on the offensive skill talent that is in such short supply

This is astounding

personally interesting hearing that all pitchers 6'10 or taller were late bloomers and could not harness their powers until 26.. which is this guy's age haha.

Michael Silver writes a headlining story destroying Jerry Richardson's character. Front page of Yahoo Sports.

Pretty crazy stuff, fresh off the old presser. Should probably be front paged-- very controversial words by Silver every Panther fan should read surrounding the Labor talks.

If the public sees him as awful, no star player will want to sign with us

Cat Scratch Reader The Offseason Priority Least Talked About

JIMMY F#%@ING CLAW-SON

....Just kidding :-)

I think one of our top priorities should be getting a backup Linebacker that can cover tight ends. IF we lose Thomas Davis at any point, we will get shlacked even by simple tight end post routes. IMO it is imperative that we get a backup plan, because I am tired of having the other team at 3rd and long only to see one of our linebacker's burnt for a touchdown.

Poll
Is addressing the need for another coverage linebacker one of our top priorities in the offseason, whether it be through draft or FA?
Yes, and I can't stand Kellen Winslow

For something non-Clausen/Luck

Few players at any position play the pass and run as well as a combined skill set -- he's great in the Panthers' frequent zone drops, and he's put a Stop on 39 of the 55 running plays that have come his way.

Wow.... just wow....

That's all I can say

Saw him play in an AAU tourney at the Dean Dome (with Conley) and always thought he would become a star. Sad
