Now that Fox is the HC... will McCoy stay as OC?
I think this could be a very good thing and granted, I don't know a lot about McCoy other than what I've seen this year. If he truly is a believer in Tebow, then stability at OC is a very good thing. Fox can come in and focus on the defense - fix that first and foremost - because in all honesty, if they don't ... nothing else matters.
Thoughts on 2-2 and the road ahead...
Over my 25 years of being a Broncos' fan, I've learned to be more of a realist when I look at a season. Prior to week 1, I was struggling with how this team would win 8-9 games. Right now, that's still in my range of where they will finish, but I've been happily surprised with what I have seen so far.
Trade down with NE and trade Scheffler
I don't have a lot of time to add commentary, but I was curious to find out if there is something to do here with these two items. First off, I am going to provide a quick view into the first 4 rounds and what "could be" if we somehow found a way to trade down from #11 to #22 with NE (getting their 2nd R2 - they have 3 - as compensation, it's essentially equal). And, then if we can flip Scheffler for an early R4 (say 120 overall area)...
I think this gives Denver a ton of options and would love to see something like the following. Share your thoughts.
Two trades to consider for the Draft
Ok, I'm a fan of wishing Brandon a fond farewell... yes, I would love to see him continue as a Bronco, but I think they just have to make this deal and move on. If there is no deal to be made for a R1 2010 pick... then what about the Rams?
Chester Taylor & others...
In regards to fixing things on the team, rather than spend another top draft pick (rounds 1 through 4) on a RB as I have seen in many mocks, why not make a play for a guy like Chester Taylor to help balance the rushing attack?
Taylor can do a few things differently than Moreno or Buckhalter and I think he would be a nice addition to this team. Sure, he's 30 and not the ideal age for a RB, but we wouldn't be bringing him in to be the guy. I think he has a few good years left because he doesn't have the 'wear and tear' on the body. It sounds like he may not be in the plans for MIN and if not, I would like to see the team make a play for him.
Thoughts?

Some thoughts on improving Denver in 2010
Hey everyone... I view a lot, but don't post often. I'm sure some of this has been mentioned previously, but here we go.
I have a few ideas on what Denver should consider doing to improve this team.
1- Josh Cribbs: This guy is a great kick returner and he has enough play-making ability to find a nice niche in McD's offense. I would like to see Denver find a way to send Scheffler and maybe a R6 pick to CLE for Cribbs. The guy is worth the money he is seeking, I wouldn't go overboard with the contract, but he's worth several million per year. If they don't like Scheffler, then send a 2010 R3 or a 2010 R4 and something later in order to get him. CLE has a ton of picks in this draft, and they need them. So, with their issues, something tells me they could use a guy like Scheffler. It's worth a shot... Denver could certainly use Cribbs, and it would allow Royal to focus just on being a great WR and getting beyond the sophomore slump.
Cribbs stats: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CribJo01.htm
2 - Brandon Marshall: Obviously, there is a divorce in line... question is, what can Denver get for him? Ideally, it would be great if we could send him to SEA and re-acquire our original R1 pick. I don't know if that would be a reality, but it would be nice and Marshall straight up for the R14 pick is something that would make me happy. There will be many that say "You'll be lucky to get a R2 for him because of his issues" and others that say "We need a R1 and other picks", but the fact is he is a soon to be 26 year old phenom coming off three 100 catch seasons... yes, he has a ten cent brain, but there are a number of teams that would love to have that talent.
I would like to target a team in the #13-#22 range for a trade in the 2010 draft.
The target teams that I would consider:
#14 - Seahawks, this would be their 2nd R1 pick and while they gave TJ Housh a lot of money and have had failed moves with Burleson and Branch in the past, none of them has the impact that Brandon brings to the table and he would be a nice fit for what they do.
#16 - Titans could really use a young stud with explosive talent at WR
#21 - Jets, yes they made the move for Edward ... but, he would make a nice addition. Maybe Ryan could contain the Beast and prevent issues from happening. I dunno.
#22 - Ravens, they need a young stud at WR.... Mason is on his last legs and he would bring a new level to that team.
There could be other fits, but those 4 seem like the most realistic to me.
Denver can do a lot to improve this team, even with moving Marshall and Scheffler and if they can acquire Cribbs while picking up a 2nd pick in the top 25 of Round 1 - they could really do a lot of great things for the defense, focus on LB and DL. Yes, moving Brandon and Tony leaves two holes on offense, but I would fix the defense and look at FA to fill the void that is left at WR and TE.
They'll have options... and it's going to be interesting to see what they do.
I hope they work new deals with guys like Dumerville and Orton... yes, Orton. The guy can play and they just need to bring consistency to the offense, build around the guy while improving the defense.
Latest Brandon rumor from Jets safety?
So, you've likely read about the 'tease' that Kerry Rhodes put out via Twitter recently about a "big announcement". There's a lot of speculation out there, which doesn't surprise me. Rhodes and Marshall just happen to have the same agent, so ... if there were something, it's possible he might know.
Does anyone give this credibility or just shrug it off as a player having fun with those that follow him via Twitter?
I'm just interested in the drama ending and the freaking season starting... only a few days away and it can't get here fast enough for me.

Mock - one more for the road
Ok, I figured I would give this thing another shot... and this time, I'm looking at Denver doing 2 trades in Round 1. I'm not trying to be too extreme, and although this is borderline... I think there is some rational thought behind it.
Trade #1 - we deal with Jax (taking #8) and sending them #12 and #79 (R3) overall... we might have to throw in a late 2010, but we should be fine on that 2 for 1 to move up. They want out of that pick and we want it, but not for a QB.
Trade #2 - we deal with ATL (giving #18) and getting #24, #90 and a 2010 R5. Denver entertains moving down and ATL sees the DEF phenom they covet, Denver takes the deal and the picks... knowing there's still value for them 6 picks later.
So, we have 8 and 24 in R1 now... and rather than 79 and 84 in R3, we now have 84 and 90. Not bad and fairly realistic I think. Anyway, here we go....
Round 1
BJ Raji, DT - BC
Evander Hood, DE - Missouri
Round 2
Jairus Byrd, CB Oregon
Round 3
Rashad Jennings, RB - Liberty
Darcel McBath, FS - Texas Tech
Round 4
Stephen McGee, QB - Texas AM (not thrilled about this one, but I think it has a high chance of happening)
Round 5
Scott McKillop, LB - Pitt
Round 6
Chris Baker, DT - Hampton
Round 7
Anthony Parker, OB - TEN
Pierre Walters, LB - Eastern ILL
I'm not an uber NCAA/Draft nerd, so I don't know if some of those later guys are great fits or not... but, it's my best fairly educated guess.
Flame away!
Mock me? Mock you...
Seriously, another mock? Why not... this is my first stab at it and while I like parts of it, I thought I would give it a shot.
Now, I performed a trade with our #12 pick... Sanchez falls to us, then NY may be very willing to do a deal. And, I think we would be wise to consider.
Denver sends #12 to the Jets in return for #17 in R1 and R3 Pick 12 (#76), the value is in our favor on that one. Initially, I was looking at their #2... but, that was too much value in our favor.
Anyway, here it goes...honestly, after R2... it's such an exhibition of throwing things at a wall. But, I think I like the first 3 rounds. I listed in ( ) a few of my early "other considerations".
Trade #12 to the Jets for R1-17 and R3-12 (76 overall)
R1
17 – Tyson Jackson, DE LSU
18 – Clay Matthews, OLB USC
R2
48 –Fili Moala, DT USC
R3
76 – Lawrence Sidbury jr, OLB Richmond
79 – Mike Mickens, CB - CIN
84 – Herman Johnson, OG - LSU
R4
114 – Javon Ringer, RB - MSU
R5
149 – CJ Spillman, FS - Marshall
R6
185 – Quan Cosby, WR - TEX
R7
225 – David Buehler, PK - USC
235 – Nathan Brown, QB – CENT AR
2009 & Beyond, the new Era
I'm new to MHR, so just wanted to say hello. I'm not new to web forums, some of you may know me from other sites and I've been a Broncos' fan since the mid 80s.
Anyway, like many of you... it pains me to see us trade Cutler. However, I've accepted the fact that we have no control over this and we just have to roll with the punches.
I also look at Orton and Simms and think "Wow, we've quickly become one of those 15 teams with a QB combo that sparks envy in nobody." However, I do think the Broncos received really good value with the two R1 picks, the R3 pick and Orton.
That being said, this team has a lot of holes and I do NOT want to see them package picks to go get a 'potential' rookie phenom. I want them to see what falls to 12 and if Sanchez is there and they are aching for him, so be it. Otherwise, I want them to spend those picks to fix the defense as they move into the 3-4.
It will drive me crazy to think they go from Cutler and the #12... to Orton and then packaging #12 and #18 just to get another QB. This does nothing in the short or long term to fix the other issues.
Orton has a good W/L record as a starter... and while I won't blame Cutler for all those losses with our crappy defense, I can't give Orton all the credit for those wins b/c they have had a really nice DEF and incredible STs.
Cutler has a rude awakening on the horizon in CHI... they don't have a stellar Oline and their receiver options are weak. Yes, Forte is a stud, but who is going to help Cutler out in the passing attack.
The flip side to this is the fact that Orton is now staring at the best talent on offense that he has seen in the NFL. The young foundation is there and they're really good (Clady, Harris) on a solid Oline, Marshall, Royal, Scheffler... then you have Gaffney and Stokley to provide numerous other options.
So while the idea of Orton at QB doesn't do much for me now... I think we have to give him a chance. The guy has played well at times and he has more weapons now.
Use the bounty of picks to FIX the defense and let's see what happens. This team was not close to being a SB contender in 2008 and they're not there now, so let's not screw up the draft by moving all those picks to get a rookie QB.
Note to Josh McD... you've made your bed, try not to soil it.
