Brew Crew Ball Brewers sign Damon (not really)

How awesome would that be?  Damon's asking price is reported to be below $5M at this point.  For $5M how good would Damon look batting in the 1 or 2 spot of the Brewers lineup?  The team could use another lefty, especially with a strong OBP.  His arm isn't very strong, but he can still cover enough ground to be a slightly below average fielder.  If Melvin could dump Hart to another team, the increase in payroll would be negligible.  But the increase in WAR would be a whole win!  Easily...Damon had a .378 wOBA, a .365 OBP, 24 HR and 3.0 WAR last year, while Hart posted a .331 wOBA, .335 OBP, 12 HR and .7 WAR (after 1.0 WAR in 2008)...Plus when Weeks gets hurt, the team would have it's replacement leadoff hitter already on the team...Damon would be a great fit in RF for the Brewers...Just my take...

Brew Crew Ball Matt Garza 2008

Does anyone remember Doug Melvin saying after the 2007 season that the Brewers wouldn't trade any of their position players for pitching?  I wonder if he was offered Matt Garza for Corey Hart that winter.  Hart had a fantastic 2007 and may have been more appealing than Delmon Young, especially because the Brewers wouldn't have asked for Jason Bartlett to be included. Niether hitter has done much in the two years since while Garza has become a staple in a very good rotation.

Never a good idea to look back ...but...at the risk of turning into a pillar of salt, I was compelled to voice my curiosity.
