I was in the waiting room at the doctor's office today, thumbing through an issue of Popular Science, when I came accross this picture of Michael Robinson delivering a face melting hit against the Saints. The article is about concussions, and does not talk about the Seahawks at all, but I loved the pic and wanted to share it.
NFL Sunday Ticket now available on PlayStation Network
Great news for out of state Seahawk fans!
Seahawks are one of the teams most hurt by a lockout.
An interesting blog post by Brock Huard over on Mynorthwest.com. It includes a list ranking how much teams have commited to salaries for the 2011 season.
Seahawks/Saints a huge ratings success
"The Seattle Seahawks' 41-36 upset of the New Orleans Saints on NBC earned the highest preliminary rating for the early Saturday wild card game in two decades. The 18.3 overnight rating, with a 33 share, was the best since the Redskins-Eagles game during the 1990 season and up 8 percent from last year's Jets-Bengals matchup."
Possible way to watch the game from home this weekend.
"It costs subscribers just $5 a month for local over-the-air channels from Seattle and New York City, with other markets to come; you can watch the Seahawks on Sundays or the evening news on KING 5 from anywhere in the world on your PC or Mac."
I live in the Seattle Market, and I am a Seahawks fan, so there isn't really any reason for me to sign up, but I thought I would share. You can sign up for a 30 day free trial on their webpage. http://www.ivi.tv/
If anyone tries it out, I'd love to hear about how well or poorly it worked out. It might also be worth keeping in mind if you have a local blackout against a New York team.
Do Qwest fans need to learn when to shut up?
Matt Hasselbeck did an interview on Brock and Salk today. Here is the link, it starts at about the 10 minute mark. At around the 18 minute mark they ask Matt about Marshawn Lynch, and I thought he said something very interesting.
I think we gotta work on getting our home crowd to be quiet when Beast Mode comes into the game on the 1 yard line. I've never seen it where we've jumped offsides twice at home because of crowd noise. The guys like 'I can't hear you' I.. what do you want me to say? Everyone is so excited that Marshawn is in the game.
He says this all in kind of a joking manner, but I think he's making an important point. I was watching the game on TV, but I really noticed the crowd noise a few times when we had the ball and I was wondering what the hell people were doing making so much noise when our offense is on the field. And I believe I saw Matt flapping his arms at one point trying to quiet the crowd down.
It's kind of funny because last week on the Brock and Salk show Brock was talking about the Titan fans and praising how smart they are because they make so much noise on defense, but go almost completely quiet when the offense is on the field. Salk then brought up the Seahawk fans and Brock kind of hesitated and then said Hawk fans are great because they know how much crowd noise can affect opposing offenses. But at the time I thought what seemed like was intentionally left unsaid is that they sometimes don't know when to shut up. And it seems like this weekend might have illustrated that point.
I'm curious to hear from people who where at the game. Did it get too loud when our offense got in scoring position?
New cheap viewing option for out of state Seahawk fans.

It seems like a pretty good deal to me. You can sign up for a 30 day free trial on their webpage. http://www.ivi.tv/
Singletary sacks reporter
I guess this is easier for him than trying to explain to the reporter why he failed to stop Brees on that last drive.
Chalk Talk with Brock
Brock Huard from ESPN radio's Brock and Salk show, has a new weekly blog item where he does a breakdown of a couple of key plays from the Seahawk's and Husky games on a whiteboard (via youtube). This week he breaks down Deon Butler's TD reception and the third down stop where they forced Alex Smith into an intentional grounding play. It's pretty interesting if you enjoy seeing the x's and o's broken down.
NFL Draft Crushes the NBA Playoffs.
It's just one more reason for Seattle fans to smile.
Thanks to Fooch at ninersnation.com for pointing this out. According to Bloomberg Businessweek;
The opening round of the draft, in its first showing at night after being held on Saturday afternoons, was seen on the Walt Disney Co. network in 5.4 percent of households in the top 56 U.S. television markets, ESPN spokesman Bill Hofheimer said in an e-mail. That’s a 26 percent increase over the 4.3 rating for an almost equal-length first round a year ago.
The draft, which started last night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, also was shown on the NFL Network, as it was last year.
There were two NBA first-round playoff games on Time Warner Inc.’s TNT last night. The Chicago Bulls’ 108-106 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in an early game drew a 2.1 preliminary rating, and in later action the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 101-96 win over the Los Angeles Lakers drew a 3.0, Turner spokesman Jeff Pomeroy said in an e-mail.
That means that the NFL draft outdrew the NBA by as much as 77% (if you add in the 0.95 ratings from NFL Network for a total of 6.42). I guess that's what happens when you move from the 14th largest TV market to the 45th market. Not to mention that Lakers vs Sonics was a great rivalry.
After this news, added to our great overall draft, in the words of Ice Cube, "Today was a good day".
What channel are you going to watch the draft on?
I have only ever seen the ESPN coverage of the draft, but starting just last year, Comcast added the NFL Network as part of the standard package, so now there are two options. I'm curious if anyone has watched both coverages, and has any input on who has the best coverage.
Also, I saw that NWCN (channel 2 for me) is going to be simulcasting with 710 ESPN Seattle radio from 4:00 to 5:30. I'm thinking I might watch either ESPN or NFL Network until after the Hawks make their pick and the draft pundits have moved on and started talking about the Cleveland browns upcoming pick, and then start jumping back and forth between NWCN and the first channel, just to hear more coverage on the Seahawks.
What channel(s) does everyone else plan on watching?
Edited to add Sounders option.
Get to know Alex Gibbs
I found this blog post by Kip Earlywine over at Seahawks Draft Blog about our new O-Line coach extremely interesting, and thought it was worth passing around. If you're like me and know nothing about Gibbs other than he's a zone blocking guru who's had a lot of success wherever he's gone, you'll probably find this very enlightening, and I think it will help out a lot in our draft discussions in the upcoming weeks, since the offensive line is considered a major need by most people here.
Is Jamar Adams penciled in as a starter?
Over on Rob Staton's Seahawks Draft Blog he has a link to a video from NFL Network called Draft room all-access which features the Seattle Seahawks.
While it's interesting to see the FO talk about the upcoming draft, I was even more interested in exactly what that was on the whiteboard around the 1:10 mark when the camera zoomed in on it and panned accross. It looked like a depth chart for every position, since it had the guys we know as starters listed first and seemed to flow the way you would expect, such as Hasselbeck, Wallace, Rowe at QB. And from what I could make out, it was consistent accross the board, until you reach the FS position on the far right. It has the FS depth listed as;
Adams
Grant
Wallace
Russell
Babineaux
Some names are in red and have purple dots next to them, and some just have the purple dots. I'm guessing that the Red means they're second year players since Forsett, Carlson (I think), Adams and Floyd are the only ones in red I recognized and they're all second year players. No theory on the purple dots.
I didn't see a list for SS, but if the Seahawks are going to a cover 2 next year, is there even a distinction between FS and SS in that system? If the Seahawks do see Adams as a legitimate potential starter over Russell, do they still need to address the position in the top half of the draft? I'm probably putting way to much thought into this, and it probably means nothing, but I thought I'd point it out and see if anyone else had any thoughts on it.
