Fins, Seahawks top two for Flynn
Based on conversations with Matt Flynn "in the last few days," Aaron Rodgers believes the Dolphins and Seahawks are the "two top dogs" in the race for the free agent QB.
"I think it's a strong possibility that [the Dolphins] would make a run at him," Rodgers said. "Joe [Philbin] in that system, which I’m sure is going to be very similar to this system, and Matt having a great grasp of that and playing well in his recent opportunities." Seahawks GM John Schneider, formerly with the Packers, is "pulling some strings" to bring Flynn to Seattle, according to Rodgers.

Falcons OLs Clabo, Dahl and Blalock UFAs?
"While looking at Atlanta’s free agency priorities on Monday, we wondered if the team would consider using the franchise tag on right tackle Tyson Clabo.
The answer came back quickly.
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported Tuesday that the Falcons don’t plan to use the franchise tag on any of their prospective free agents. Clabo, guard Harvey Dahl, and guard Justin Blalock could all hit free agency."

Report: Sidney Rice to get the Transition Tag
Two NFL agents tell the St. Paul Pioneer Press that impending free agent Sidney Rice will be transition tagged later this month. The franchise tag is expected to go to SLB Chad Greenway. The transition tag, which for receivers cost $8.65M last year, would take Rice off the market unless another team proposed him a multi-year offer sheet. It would pay Rice the average of the top ten wide receiver salaries in the NFL. Still just 24, Rice could re-prove his health for a year before the Vikings lock him up. NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports the Lions have acquired CB Alphonso Smith from the Broncos in exchange for TE Dan Gronkowski. Link
Obviously we all know the story. The Broncos traded their 2010 first-round pick to Seattle in order to acquire Alphonso Smith during the 2009 NFL Draft.

GM Ozzie Newsome has "made it perfectly clear" that the Ravens are seeking trades to upgrade at multiple positions. Cornerback and offensive line are the obvious trouble spots, and the Baltimore Sun's Mike Preston speculates that Newsome could try to pick up a fullback as well. If the Ravens move Willis McGahee, Le'Ron McClain will have to double as Ray Rice's primary backup. We remain skeptical that McGahee will be dealt. Source: Baltimore Sun / Rotoworld

Offensive Tackle Draft Classes, NFLDraftScout and PFR
The Seahawks may or may not be in the market for an Offensive Tackle prospect early in the upcoming 2010 NFL Draft. I've been curious as anyone to trudge through various information throughout the Internet to formulate my own ideas about which prospects are worthy of any/all of our three picks in the draft's top 60 players. Ever tired of mock drafts and video clips from charismatic suit-types, I decided to go to a trusty old standby. A site that seems to yield the best set of prospect by position rankings that I really have yet to find elsewhere: NFLDraftScout.com. But, the question remains: how accurate could these rankings be?

John Clayton expects the Broncos to wait until the NFL Draft to trade Brandon Marshall.
"The Seahawks are going to have the leverage here. They're the only team seriously interested thus far, and they know the Broncos don't want to go into the season with a disgruntled Marshall on their roster. Clayton posits that Seattle could wait through the first round to see if the Broncos will trade Marshall for less than a first-round pick." Source.
Chester Pitts to Visit Seattle
"...The Seahawks have one thing going for them. Line coach Alex Gibbs was in Houston with Pitts and the blocking scheme figures to be similar. Seattle, which had all sorts of problems on the line last season and may look for a tackle early in the draft, needs to replace left guard Rob Sims."
Quinton Ganther to visit Seahawks
The Seahawks will host free agent Quinton Ganther on Wednesday.
Ganther would do nothing to upgrade the Seahawks' rushing woes. The plodding 26-year-old could help as a situational fullback and special teamer. -Rotoworld

Marshall expected to be traded after March 5
According to the Denver Post, Brandon Marshall is expected to be traded shortly after NFL free agency opens on March 5.
"The Broncos' leverage is somewhat damaged after a Week 17 blowout between Marshall and coach Josh McDaniels. Throw in Marshall's major character concerns, and the team will have trouble getting anywhere close to full value for their restricted free agent. Marshall isn't talking during this week's Pro Bowl practices, saying he's "had enough publicity. Smart." -Rotoworld
East-West Shrine Game Open Thread
The first of our post-season chances to see draft prospects for this year on display is in the East-West Shrine game. John Skelton, among others will be on display at Noon today. I'm getting ever more curious about this guy. If he can distance himself from the Mike Teel's of the world I wonder if he could enter the discussion as a post first round option as a future Seahawk starter. I credit John for bringing Skelton, in particular, to my attention. Though this game may not feature big names like the Senior Bowl, for example, it does include a decent amount of talent to keep an eye on as the draft process continues. Seahawk reportedly want Pete Carroll
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Seahawks have made USC's Pete Carroll their No. 1 target to replace fired head coach Jim Mora, and that the sides have "strong mutual interest."
Now this is interesting. Seahawks owner Paul Allen undoubtedly has the money to lure Carroll away, and Mortensen says talks have gotten so hot and heavy that he'd be "surprised" if Carroll isn't Seattle's next coach. ESPN's Adam Schefter also says he'd heard recently that Carroll wanted back into the pros. Carroll, 58, has been in at Southern Cal since the 2001 season. According to Mortensen, the Seahawks are interviewing Vikings DC Leslie Frazier only as a formality to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Holmgren would have had Mueller as his GM
My sources tell me that Mike Holmgren is going to live in a condo near the Browns facility and will fly back and forth to Seattle from time to time. Had Holmgren taken the Seattle job, Randy Mueller was going to be the GM. Mueller will now be offered the chance to join Holmgren in Cleveland as well. -Michael Lombardi
Alphonso Smith's Turd Season
Newly signed undrafted free agent CB Tony Carter played ahead of Alphonso Smith in nickel packages last week. Smith did make it onto the field as the cover man on Chaz Schilens game-winning touchdown. It's been a lost season for the second-rounder, which can't make the Broncos feel too good about giving up their 2010 first-round pick to draft him.

Hayes, Okefor Doubtful for Sunday's Game

Lucas is home in Mississippi to bury his father but will play on Sunday against Arizona. Coach Jim Mora said Wednesday that there are more important things in life than football for his starting cornerback and that he understandably "needs some time." So the ninth-year veteran will remain home through Friday's burial.

An MRI exam showed left guard Rob Sims strained his oblique Sunday, a side muscle that is key to repelling charging defenders. Mora said Sims will be questionable to play against Indianapolis. Mansfield Wrotto would likely become the eighth starter on the offensive line this season if Sims can't play.
