Just got back from my honeymoon
I just got back from my honeymoon where I was sheltered from society to say the least. My new wife and I went to Jamaica for a week and now I'm back home. I was just curious if I missed any big news out there? I noticed we landed 3 commitments since I've logged on to a computer. LB, OL, and WR. Very nice! Anything else interesting that I missed (either KU related or whatever)? Thanks guys…and possibly girls!
Friday Night Lights Camp
Interesting article up on the Slant. It appears Jordan Phillips is extremely good friends with Dreamium Smith (RB who is already committed to KU) and Perry Ellis (elite basketball recruit for 2012 that is looking at KU). He mentions that the two of them could play a big factor in what school he chooses. He also mentions that Vic Shealy has made up a lot of ground in recruiting him. Hopefully Phillips can have an excellent camp and come away even higher on KU.
Fox Sports Wants to Marry the Big 12
Fox Sports appears to be trying a last minute effort to keep the Big 12 in tact.
Big 12 blew it by eschewing playoff
"Consider the 2008-09 season where Big 12 members Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech all would’ve been selected. If the seeds held, those clubs would’ve combined to play nine playoff games meaning the league would’ve walked with $225 million in revenue. The conference then could’ve written each league school an $18.75 million check just from the playoff. That year the Big Ten would’ve earned just three shares for $75 million, a per team share of $6.8 million.
"If that’s happening, do you think Missouri and Nebraska still want out? You think the Big Ten’s TV revenue advantage still matters?"
ISU letter on conference realignment
Wow! I don't think Iowa State feels very good about the future of the Big 12 after this week.
Pettiness, Paranoia and Pollyannas
An article I came across talking about the Big 12 and realignment. Thought it was a pretty good read.
Best of Both: BCS era combined standings
Thought this was an interesting article. Looks at what schools had the combined best basketball and football programs since the BCS began.
They said they didn't use teams that scored less than 5.0 points (on their point system) in football, which is why KU didn't make it. KU only scored 4.5 points on their scale, but would have ended up in 9th place overall if they wouldn't have factored that into the equation.

(The actual list. The combined standing with no minimum is at the bottom of the page.)
Ranking the Big 12's best: No. 24
"Today is Day 2 of our countdown of the Big 12's 25 best players entering the 2010 season. The full results are locked in a vault in an undisclosed location, but we'll be revealing one player per day until we reach the top of the list.
"Remember, this isn't a list of the top 25 NFL prospects in the league. It's heavily weighted toward actual accomplishment in players' college careers, as well as the likely impact for their teams in the 2010 season.
No. 24: Tanner Hawkinson, OT, So., Kansas"
The Rivals 100 - 2011 Prospect Rankings
Darrian Miller #77 and Bubba Starling #99.
H/T to Mitchum on this. I do think this is always interesting to follow. I'm guessing the rest of the rankings will be on there way over the coming week or two. Landing Starling and Miller would sure be a nice boost.

College football countdown: SN's preseason top 100
NU at 7,KU at 31, MU at 33, CU at 74, ISU at 82, and KSU at 85. We're picked 2nd in the Big 12 North? Looks like some people are somewhat high on the Jayhawks after we lose some key positions. Love'n it!!
Darrian Miller de-commits from KU
"I want to make sure there isn't a school out there that can compete with Kansas," Miller said. "I still feel strong about them. They are definitely still right there in the running. I just need to make sure that's what I want."
This evening Miller had a chance to call Turner Gill and Reggie Mitchell.
"I told coach Gill I just want to be sure," Miller said. "He was cool about it. He said they will stay on me and told me to call him whenever I want. I talked about it with coach Mitchell and he shared some of his thoughts about it."
Just because Miller has de-committed doesn't mean he won't be a Jayhawk.
"There is still a good chance I could end up there," Miller said of Kansas.
Big Ten commissioner: 'We won’t expand for the sake of expansion'
I'm sick of the expansion talk but I thought I would share...
"Hang on Missouri, Nebraska, Syracuse, Notre Dame and anybody else with its ear pressed to the ground on Big Ten expansion. "
Family's love gets Pillips on right track
I think your interview is right here Denver!
Great article on Jordan Phillips! We're definitely playing catchup!!!!
Miller wins MVP at Midwest Elite
According to Rivals.com, Darrian Miller, KU's first commit for 2010, won the MVP for all the running backs at the Midwest Elite.
"Miller thoroughly dominated the second half of the first ever combine that featured top prospects from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and Oklahoma. He destroyed virtually every linebacker he faced with amazing explosion off the line and a quick burst that allowed him to get separation. When the ball got in his direction, he showed really soft hands, plucking the ball out of the air each time effortlessly."

Wasting Time With Football Recruits?
Interesting topic from Mitchum late yesterday. What's everyone think. Should the staff stay realistic and go after players we have a better shot at. Or do we need to be in the mix with BIG TIME recruits and making a push. Promoted today for FRONT PAGE FRIDAY, if we start getting more frequent fanposting we'll start doing this a little more.
Also, RCT Time Machine Part II coming up in a couple hours. On to Mitchum's post

With the recent scholarship offer of Nathan Hughes, a high-profile strongside defensive end, I started to ask myself a question – How do I feel about KU offering elite prospects that already have numerous offers from prestigious programs around the U.S.? Throughout this FanPost I will have an ‘intelligent’ argument with myself and try to figure out if I’m excited about KU is extending offers to these recruits or if I think it is just wasting KU’s time.

JayhawkSlant: New Attitude at Cornerback
Great article on the cornerbacks! The thing I'm glad to hear is that the cornerbacks won't be giving the WRs a 7 yard cushion this year.
Safeties learning the ropes
Here's an article on Lubbock Smith and Prinze Kande.
Patterson, Beshears will add speed
Here's a link from Rivals.com about the two speedsters.
Q&A: Part two, Kansas DC Carl Torbush
"In part two of this Q&A, new Kansas defensive coordinator Carl Torbush talks about new coach Turner Gill's no-cussing policy, finding an identity for his defense, the expectations the coaches have put on returning players and more."
Q & A with Turner Gill
"One little announcement I want to make is Vernon Brooks has been removed from our football team due to violation of our team policies."
Football Recruiting Update
Because I'm bored...
It appears that KU has offered a new O-lineman this week, Antonio Richardson. According to Rivals this brings our offer list to 40 for players that haven't committed to a school yet. Antonio Richardson is 6'6", weighs in at 310 and is from Tennessee. Including our offer, he currently is at 15 right now. Looks like Gill's not affraid to go after the big boys of the SEC in their own territory. Nice! Could be a great get, but we are going up against some powerhouses too.
Also, I've noticed recruitment has been picking up a little bit for Dan Tapko, a Rockhurst player. Rivals used to have him listed as a DE but now they have him listed as a TE. It'll be interesting to see what position he wants to play and how that will affect the school he chooses.

Where is Bryce Brown? 'As of now,' not on Tennessee's roster
Looks like the kitty cats down the road might be getting another Brown brother. Does anyone else see K-State getting hit with some NCAA sanctions in the future? I wouldn't want these kids anywhere near my program.
Alabama offers Kansas QB
Just thought it was interesting. Hopefully Gill can keep this one in state.
