Fangraphs: Royals to part ways with Jose Guillen

6
"I’ve seen comments saying that this move has come a little too late, but that misses the point that it’s a move that shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place. There were zero indications that Guillen would produce value remotely approaching his contract. It was a foolish contract signing from the beginning, and the Royals realized nothing from it. His time in Kansas City resulted in -1.2 WAR. If players were compensated with WAR Dollars, he’d owe the club $5.9 million." Don't worry guys, I'm sure Guillen already put the check in the mail...

MLB Trade Deadline: Before Injury, David DeJesus Deal Could Have Included Rays AA P Jake McGee

What could have been...thoughts? I expect Royals would get more than McGee, though how much more, I'm not sure. Here's his stats from BR.

2008-09 Big 12 revenue numbers

19

1. Oklahoma, $12,209,800 2. Texas, $11,783,807 3. Kansas, $11,494,441 4. Missouri, $10,449,437 5. Texas A&M, $10,180,582 From Ubben: "Missouri also made a big jump from 2007-08 to 08-09. The team's high-scoring offense (sixth nationally and third in the Big 12 at 42.2 points per game) and star power helped push the Tigers into their second consecutive Big 12 title game and enter the season ranked in the top 10. That combination helped them jump from $8.4 million and sixth in the Big 12 to $10.44 million and fourth in the Big 12." I'm really curious how this breaks down on a per-sport level. Football would obviously bring in the most, and as such, I'm surprised to see kU in the top three. I think their football was on national TV four times that year, so that might explain it...or am I missing something obvious? Here's the complete list. [Bumped to front page.]

KC Star reports "Chances of Big 12's survival looks 'significantly greater'"

Ok, so the headline is a bit of "well...duh" moment right now, but I'm putting this up here for a few reasons...   I didn't see it already posted elsewhere on RMN (though I could have missed it,...

Nebraska over Mizzou? What changed?

+

This is a fanpost I wrote on The Rivalry, Esq. asking some Big 10 fans what changed, in their opinion, to push Nebraska ahead of Missouri on the Big 10's wish list. Some interesting responses, though for the most part it comes down to the expected "Cornhusker football > Tiger football".

With all the talk and stories of Big Ten might, it was clear during the interview Beebe and the Big 12 have just about had enough. The commissioner made it clear they are quietly working on several possibilities he said could lead to a conference without Missouri and Nebraska that would be stronger than the league it is today.

Is this WHB continuing to stir the pot? Perhaps...though I think it's interesting that the above quote means that Beebe is assuming Mizzou and Nebraska would say yes if asked to join the Big 10. whb.com [Bumped to front page.]

Murray Chass Blames Zack Greinke For Poor Record

22
The stats freaks who never saw a decimal point they didn’t worship were ecstatic last year when Zack Greinke won the American League Cy Young award while winning only 16 games....I can’t wait to see what they will do with Greinke’s record this year. He has started seven games and has won none of them. He has lost four. He has a respectable e.r.a. of 2.51, but he is the first returning Cy Young winner, Elias Sports Bureau says, to fail to win any of his first seven starts since Frank Viola in 1989. Coach Anderson: The Tigers' Latest Champion Runner?

1

For Missouri men's basketball head coach Mike Anderson, there's only one thing he looks forward to during the offseason: running. It's a pretty common activity for a man his age to stay in shape. But it's pretty uncommon to do it how Coach Anderson does it. With the 2009-2010 season over, 50-year-old Anderson runs an average of 25 miles per day: jogging every morning from his home to his office.

Scuffle leaves MU freshman QB with broken nose

In a scene that ended with three Missouri football players wearing handcuffs, freshman quarterback Tyler Gabbert suffered a broken nose early Saturday morning when he was punched by another patron at a downtown restaurant. Quarterbacks Blaine and Tyler Gabbert and linebacker Andrew Gachkar were handcuffed and questioned by Columbia police outside Gumby’s Pizza after they had exchanged words — and at least one damaging punch — with another group of unidentified men, according to a Columbia police report. Police arrived at the restaurant at 1:27 a.m. in response to a call about a disturbance and interviewed 12 different people at the scene, Columbia police spokeswoman Officer Jessie Haden said. No arrests were made.

Big Ten making overtures to … Texas / LJWorld.com

With all the talk being that Mizzou made the most sense for Big 10 expansion and how that would impact the Big 12...what if TEXAS left, but Mizzou didn't, and the Big 12 grabbed someone else to replace the Longhorns (TCU? Houston? I don't know, just spitballing here...)? Losing a conference heavyweight obviously hurts the Big 12, but what if this led to a more balanced distribution of power within the conference?

Billings Outlaws defeat River City Rage to win IFL title Why would Mizzou fans care about this?...

Billings Outlaws defeat River City Rage to win IFL title Why would Mizzou fans care about this? Because a number of former Tigers play for River City, including Darnell Terrell and Mizzou hero-safety Pig Brown, who returned an onside kick for a touchdown that nearly swung the game in the Rage's favor. You can get a glimpse of Pig early in the video as he gets burned on a flea-flicker, but I snuck him into the video again delivering a big hit at around the one-minute mark.
