Just a quick reminder that because of the potential Bart strike, some folks planning to drink N*+1 margaritas need to be sure they don't rely on public transit for safe returns. So think designated drivers, and such. Even arrange it here, ahead of time.

It's the company I work for, and hey, it's actually a good tool. Since I'm going to the Boston / A's game on Friday, I thought I would try doing live updates. If you have flash, and bandwidth, watch the whole show. See you there!

All negativity vent thread

There is a pressing need in AN for folks to rant and kvetch.
But face it, we all know the rants, and don't need to read them again.

The solution - a write only thread.

Ground rules - you can't read any posts here, ever.
You can't reply to a post.
No level of negativity is too negative.

No complaining about how negative folks are, cause I said don't read it.

The extended mega nega rant will only work as a karmic balance if nobody reads it. By placing all pure negative thoughts here, we can get back to wearing it, and rational fandom in the rest of our lives.

A simple introduction why NL baseball is painful

Looking over an inprogress game, and saw a perfect example of the problem with NL style smallball.

"San Francisco Top 5th

Shea Hillenbrand grounded out to first. None on with one out
Pedro Feliz ground-rule doubled to right-center. Runner on second with one out.
Eliezer Alfonzo singled to right. Runners on first and third with one out
Jason Schmidt sacrifice bunt to third. Runners on second and third with two outs
Steve Finley grounded out second to first to end the inning."
The pitcher is up, and the best they can try to do is sacrifice the guy on first to second, leaving the guy at third on? Why not try an score the guy some way or another.

If that is the way to play without a DH, please spare us.

Why I love baseball, and how it relates to politics

With all the rancor about Memorial day and baseball, I am reminded about what I like about watching sports:
On any given day, you get to soar to the heights as your team does well, teeter on the brink when the other team hits the ball way back, way back, then exault as it gets pulled into Kotsay's mitt. Or, wallow in sorrow as it flies out of the park.

With victory, or loss, you get enjoyment and tension; but at the end, it's just a game. Nobody get's their taxes raised, no wars are started, no bombs exploded.
Nobody gets hurt, unless you are too close to the bullpen when Texas is in town.

I personally would choose less Jingoism at the ballpark, but since I'm not Bud Selig...
