April 10th SoB Tailgate
I just received notice that the Sons of Ben Tailgate for April 10th is going to be at McFaddens Bar and Grill at the stadium. Personally I think this is a terrible idea for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, tailgates by definition are not held in bars. On opening day I would much rather be outside enjoying the sunshine (hopefully), and god willing, maybe even knocking the ball around. There is something special about the tailgating atmosphere that simply gets eviscerated by having it in a chain bar.
Additionally, no one wants to be forking money over to McFaddens all day for drinks and food. One of the reasons why so many people bought season tickets for the Union was because it was a cheaper option. Even with the "discounted prices" at McFaddens you are certainly going to pay more at a bar than a traditional tailgate. I have been to Screaming Eagles Tailgates for DCU and they have got it right. You pay $8-10 and get all you can eat and drink for 3 hours or so before the game, the SoBs if they want to get this thing right should follow that model.
I would encourage the SoBs to either reconsider this decision (which it is probably too late to do) or in the alternative, to designate an additional site for the tailgate outdoors either in K Lot or Jethro Lot. Just for reference, I believe that the Screaming Eagles will be in Lot E.
I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but it simply is not.
