Casey Mcgehee, 3B, MIL
Casey McGehee has been grabbing bats over the last month at 2b/3b/of for the brewers putting up a line in 107 ABS of 4 HR, 17 RBI, 12 BB .3364/.3967/.5421 slash line and a .408 wOBA. Most of this production has come in the last 13 games (as im looking this up i see that he hit a GS today, giving him 5 bombs) with hits in five straight games and four homers over that time with 10 RBI.
Where did he come from, i see that he was in the Cubs organization since drafted out of Fresno St, at 26 he is coming into his prime years? Does he have a place at 3b for the brewers, will he keep hitting, what kind of upside/potential does he possess?
Thanks for the input.
Who is A.J. Hinch?
He seems to be the next manager of the Dbacks, all i find of him is
In July 2006, Baseball America named him one of baseball's "10 to watch" in the next 10 years for his promise as a Farm Director and future General Manager. In August 2006, the Diamondbacks named Hinch director of player development.
Anybody else know anything about him? Having very little managerial experience is a huge question mark, but i like the thinking outside of the normal candiates. Is he a players coach and will he be able to connect with the young dbacks being only 34 years old himself?
Lots of questions for sure.
Bring up Parra and Whitesell!!!
and anbody with a pulse that can hit :)
you can't blame melvin 100% when the GM and owners have made some ridiculous trades and add/drops.
however, i can blame him for the product on the field. he employs the bench, hitting and pitching coaches on his staff and in total the entire coaching staff sucks. only one game this whole year have we ran - at least 5 guys on our team have 20 SB potential - but dont get the green light ever. we dont sacrifice, we dont hit and run, we dont bunt guys over, we dont steal, we dont play small ball, we dont play for one run.
even more, the hitting coach still has not preached any sort of patience in the hitters, they free swing, never choke up on 2 strikes, conor might be the only .400 obp guy but he is in a slump, lopez is our best hitter - i love that fact and hate it at the same time, and upton is now officially our 2nd best hitter as mark reynolds goes into another slump and who knows how taking a hit to the hand will help his season. this comment might be hard to say/hear for some, but im done with chris young he is getting worse and worse. he watches pitches go right down the middle and doesnt swing and then chases off-speed stuff a foot of the plate. in 1300 career AB's we have a .241 hitter with barely a .300 obp, and last night his 0-21 slump was broken by a hit to the furcal that he fielded cleanly and obviously juggled the ball in making the transfer to throw it and wasnt able to get the throw off, im glad to get that nonsense.
i want to see this josh whitesell kid we got from washington. he has had three straight .400 wOBA, three staright .420 obp and last year hit 26 HR and 109 ribs with 74 BB. So far this year he is batting a robust .356 with a .477 obp and has 3 hr, 20 ribs and 20 BB. i say time to bring him up and sit down tony clark, sit down tony the tiger for good, im sick of seeing him come up and grab starts because we have no better options.
at this point, i say bring up parra, batting .375 with a .476 obp in about 90 ABs, and cut into chris youngs ABs, we need some life injected into the team, the offense is so stinking pitiful that jeff fracking weaver on his first start in over a year and half in the bigs just toasted us and made us look very silly.
I heard about this but i was making dinner and stopped caring late in the game, but my roommate told me he took out josh wilson for ryan roberts pinch hit, ha - unreal. his desire to switch up the lineup every day does anybody on this team have an offensive role, who is the rbi man, who is the table setter, when your batting 2nd one day and 6th the next and 3rd the next what kind of rythym and pre-game preperation can you have.
i mean if our offense if that pitiful right now, maybe a huge slump, why not just play some extreme small ball, but no instead we swing away. example, two games ago, runners on the corners and 1 out and josh wilson comes up. i said immediately to sacrifice bunt this guy home to score and go from there. OKAY, josh wilson got the hit and scored the run, i will eat my words. but then melvin has doug davis lay down a sacrifice with guys on 1st and 2nd and 1 out and he hits into a 2-5-3 double play. thats ludicrous, makes no sense, and if melvin or anybody else expects josh wilson to get that hit most of the time we are in for such a long season.
Lillibridge's Future
As a white sox fan, and a fan of prospects, i love the recent trade of vasquez. Regardless of who won the trade, i wonder on the players involved.
Brent Lillibridge has dotted the prospect radar after a solid effort in 2006 and a subsequent trade to Atlanta. I thought he would get shot bc of his defense and awesome numbers in A ball. Alas, regression took place and his avg, obp and slg. have all dipped for two consecutive years; the power imporvement in AAA is nice but with the expense of a huge K rate over 20%. The emergence of yunel escobar has made him expendable.
So where does his future lie. the white sox have a need up the middle. Lillibridge has shown the ability to man ss and 2b, and could be the stopgap till beckham is ready. But what kind of offensive player do you all expect?

most college and high school guys are not taken, at least not past strausburg, for next year, so comments on high upside HS and college guys is appreciated. any huge international signings are welcome too (iona already gone).

Ryan Ludwick and fantasy trades
Im am in a deep 24 man league with large minor league rosters, and was lucky enough to draft ludwick last year. I am suspect of any kind of repeat performance, i know he showed a decent line with i think 14 HR when given at-bats last season and progressed nicely this year, but seriously, a 30 year old - what more is there to expect?
so my first question is where does ludwick stand next year, i feel like moving him at his highest value but if he is worth keeping, let me know.
if i were to move him, which of these packages seem to be the best? by best i mean, highest potential balanced more with someone who gets AB's/starts as a major leaguer next year. i love high upside, but being so deep i need starters too!!
first: ryan tucker, jeremy sowers, juan morillo
second: adam miller, cla meredith, mike mccormick
before anyone asks, my OF is fine, but of course always could use pitching, this trade is not done in terms of saving money, moving contracts or any of that crap that is league specific.
my thinking is sowers has shown two productive seasons, 150 and 180 innings split between AAA and cleveland the past two years, he is healthy and building his innings up; he is older, 25, but showing well and now has 49 major league starts unders his belt, moving next year to maybe a 'breakout' year with him reaching the 'fabled' 50 start mark.
ryan tucker is solid, jumped from AA to the bigs for 5 innings this year, he looks good at 21 and it doesnt matter if he ends up starting or in relief, as i heard he could be their future closer.
juan morillo is a young relief pitcher for colorado whom should get a shot at being in the bullpen next season.
adam miller really needs no introduction, but INJURY concerns!! i have heard that none of them deal with his throwing arm, but is he over this? does his talent make him the best choice? he is currently pitching in dominican winter leauge with a stat line in 3 starts, 10.2 innings, 7k, 9.28 era; i expect that to normalize a bit with more starts, but which miller will be there next spring, the guy that dominated AAA this year for 28 innings or nothing
cla meredith is a solid mlb reliever, nuff said.
mike mccormick is a solid young, offenseive minded catcher for tampa bay with 13 HR in A ball. a couple years away, but catching depth is always nice and he could push navarro in a couple years if jaso doesn't.
i read statistics of these players till my eyes bleed, but surely i would love some commentary about performance, speculation, scouting reports, anything that might add more depth to the question. thanks guys.
