Stampede Blue The Best Colts team of all time?

I made a Tecmo Super Bowl hack two years ago putting what I determined to be each franchises best single year in the game.  At the time, I picked the 06 Colts, for obvious reasons.  With a plan to remake it this summer, I was fully hoping this years' team could pull it off and be the easy choice.

But life ain't easy.

In the past version, I had non-Super Bowl winners get the spot over Super Bowl winners (07 Pats and 98 Vikings) and I've sent polls to those SB sites for their opinions on who should get the spot in my hack.  I just posted the Pats one, the Vikings one already leans towards keeping the 98 team over any of the 70's runner ups.

So here I am in a pickle with our beloved Colts.  I was thinking before of giving the teams that got the farthest preferential treatment, meaning ring > no ring regardless.  It's tough since based on pure talent, I'd say the 06 team was actually weaker than many others this decade.

So I'm opening a poll.  Which team is the best Colts team of all time?  The 06 champs, the 09 runner ups, and I'm also including the 1970 Super Bowl champion Colts as well.

Poll
Top dog?
2009 Colts (Super Bowl loss to Saints)
76 votes
2006 Colts (Super Bowl win over Bears)
42 votes
1970 Colts (Super Bowl win over Cowboys)

Pats Pulpit Greatest Patriots team of all time?

Hey Pats fans, I've come over here to see your thoughts on this.  I made a Tecmo Super Bowl hack two years ago which put what I determined to be each teams' pinnacle season.  This rom was made during the 2007 season, and I put the 16-0 in even before the Super Bowl, as I (Like the team did) thought there was no chance they'd get beat.

Well, I'm planning on re-doing the rom and I was considering potentially going more based on total distance gone, meaning that 16-0 team would be out of consideration since other teams won the Super Bowl.  But in talking with Vikings fans at Daily Norseman, I'm reconsidering.  I originally used the 98 Vikings who went 15-1 and lost in the Conference final, and asked them about if one of the 70's Super Bowl runner ups were better.  So far, the 98 is winning.

Which comes to my question, which team would you consider the Patriots all time best team?  Would you still go with the 07 team or would you pick 04 or 03?  (I personally think 04 was a much stronger team, but I'll include both.)

Poll
Best Patriot team of them all?
2007 Patriots (16-0, Super Bowl loss to Giants)
61 votes
2004 Patriots (Super Bowl win against Eagles)
40 votes
2003 Patriots (Super Bowl win against Panthers)

Daily Norseman Which is the Greatest Viking Team of all Time?

Hey guys, a year or two I put together a Tecmo Super Bowl hack that featured the single best team from 28 different franchises.  Some of the teams were easy to figure out, others much more difficult.

At the time I made the rom, the Patriots were in the midst of their unbeaten season, and after reviewing stats, I ended up choosing the 98 Viking team as the winners.

Well, I'm re-doing the hack, and this time to try to avoid subjectivity as much as possible, teams get that get farther automatically beat others.  (Example, the 04 Patriots would be IN, 07 Patriots)  This leaves the 98 Vikings team OUT. But then the toughest decision, which Viking team to put in?

There are 4 choices, the 1969, 73, 74, 76 teams, each getting to the Super Bowl but falling short.  Not being alive when it happened or being a Vikings fan, my knowledge of these teams is fairly limited to what numbers tell me, and looking at stats, no one team (to me at first glance) stands out from the others.

So I was hoping the Viking faithful could help me out and let me know which team is regarded by Viking fans as being the top dog?  Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!

(Note, on the poll, I did include the 98 team as well as this past years' team in case.  If it is overwhelming in favor of the 98 team then they will remain)

Poll
Which is the greatest Viking team of them all?
1969 (Lost in Super Bowl to Chiefs)
6 votes
1973 (Lost in Super Bowl to Dolphins)
4 votes
1974 (Lost in Super Bowl to Steelers)
8 votes
1976 (Lost in Super Bowl to Raiders)
5 votes
1998 (Lost in Conference Championship to Falcons)
33 votes
2009 (Lost in Conference Championship to Saints)

Stampede Blue Off Topic: NCAA Basketball tournament soon to have 96?

Apparently, there is a very real chance that as soon as next year, March Madness will be even madder with 96 teams instead of the current 64.  (Or 65 I suppose, useless play in game)

I know personally, I don't give a crap about college basketball until the tournament.  College hockey is the only college sport I actually follow and I can't get in to college basketball's regular season mainly because it somewhat seems to defeat the purpose.  (And I think everyone on this site has already heard my many "BCS Sucks" arguments for football, so no need to explain further on that one)

I think adding more teams further weakens the point of their regular season, and it somewhat weakens the prestige of the tournament as a whole.  Sure, we love seeing the "Cinderella" 10 seed get to the Final 4, but do we need to really see those #24 seeds take on those #1 seeds?  It's about is pointless as those "Bob's Hardware" type bowl games putting the 5th best Sun Belt team against the 9th best Big East team.  Just a waste of time.

It just seems like a pointless money grab.  But then again, that's what the NCAA is all about.  They have a good thing, I'd hope they don't ruin it.  But then again, even as annoying as 96 teams would be, at least there would still BE a real champion.

Thoughts?  I know we have a number of college basketball fans on this site, so I was wondering the reaction here.

Since the Jaguars are this week, and I saw this, I thought you'd enjoy it. Apparently they wanted to send the mascot in the air on a zip line...but he got stuck.

Luckily, no mascots were harmed in the making of this.

Stampede Blue Manning to Wayne Touchdown, Tecmo Super Bowl Style

I am a big fan of the classic video game Tecmo Super Bowl.  For my money, it is the greatest sports video game EVAR, and I make a yearly rom hack of the Super Nintendo (SNES) version of the game.  And from time to time on my Youtube channel, I re-create a big game winning play with the game just for some fun.

Well, I think that win deserved this video.  Enjoy!

(I used both Bob Lamey and Al Michaels for the audio)

Stampede Blue Shane Andrus is now a starting kicker

I was somewhat hoping that no one would go after Andrus, as he seems like a pretty good talent, and Adam Vinatieri isn't going to be around a whole of a lot longer.

But a team did jump on him.  The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  This offseason, they cut longtime kicker Matt Bryant for Mike Nugent, who was drafted in the 2nd round by the Jets, and cut by them after being mediocre.  Well, turns out he's just as mediocre in Tampa Bay as he was in New York.  So his reward for being teh suck is a cut.

And now Shane Andrus is the starting kicker for them.  Good luck to him.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Where is the middle ground on this site?

I posted this towards the end of a deep fanpost, and felt like making it it's own fanpost.  I'll will say straight up, this is a bit of a rant.

Take this as you will, this is just a rant I have about mainly this site and the people (and Cubs fans in general)

Why does the middle ground of the sane and rational seem to be hard to find? Don’t get me wrong, there are those of you here that are realistic and rational, but most of the people seem to fall in to one of two categories.

1, Sunshine and Puppies!
2, Everyone Sucks!, wharrgarbl!

Frankly, both sides annoy me about the same. Those who try to defend every bad thing and who are convinced that everything is perfect and well are freaking insane.

“But MrNFL, the Cubs are going to get hot and make the playoffs! You just have to believe!”

Um, I’m sorry. The odds of this team getting hot and making the playoffs are hardly existent. I’m not against optimism, but blind optimism is going to lead you off a cliff. I could BELIEVE that $1 million dollars is going to magically appear in my lap, but is it going to because I believe it is?  No.

CAN the Cubs make the playoffs?  Sure, if they win just about every game from here out, and 3 or 4 teams in front of them decide to fall apart.  Those of you who are convinced this team is going to the postseason anyway are just in denial.

And then you have the other people, “DFA Soriano, he’s a worthless bum! Milton Bradley sucks! Piniella Sucks!  Hendry Sucks!  Everyone Sucks!”

We get it, you don’t like (insert name here)  You don't need to have every post you say be slamming the team.. We are ALL unhappy about how the season has gone, remember this team was supposed to be improved from a solid season last year.   But every post being so incredibly negative makes me feel like I’m reading a rival teams’ opinions on us.

We get it, you are angry.  Yelling the same thing over and over again and then taking shots at members on this site who don't hate everything that exists makes you look insane.

And the worst, everything turns into a freaking war between these two sides of people.  And all it ever seems to turn into is not rational debate of a subject, but childish yelling and insults.  I think that reflects badly on us Cubs fans as a whole.

Realistically, this post probably will get me bashed by both sides of these people. But I don’t care. I’ve been on a lot of sports fan sites (Including other SB Nation sites) and this site has by far the biggest problem with this type of thing. There are members of this site I do respect and enjoy seeing their thoughts, because they are sane and rational.  But it seems like too many are one of these two categories of schmucks.

I like this site, I like reading Al's articles, I feel this is the best place to find a solid conversation about the Cubs.  But I almost don't want to come here any more with all these people yelling at each other.

Remember everyone, we all want the same ultimate thing here.  With that said, Go Cubs.

/end rant

Winging It In Motown Versus being booted from DirecTV

Link here.  Seems like Versus wants more money from DirecTV, and DirecTV says no.   This is very disappointing for me, as someone who has DirecTV, and someone who loves watching the NHL playoffs.  If they don't figure it out, it will be very tough to actually watch most of the playoff games.

Us Wings fans still have FS Detroit for the regular season and some of the playoffs, but NBC doesn't even cover every game of the Finals.  If only the NHL could get off of Versus...I think the network is still a sinking ship.

Let's Go Tribe Getting tickets to an Indians game

Hello Indians fans, I have a random set of questions that I would really appreciate if someone would answer.

A group of friends and I are planning a road trip that goes through Cleveland at the beginning of August, when the Indians have home series' against the Tigers and Twins.  With that said, here are my questions

#1 How easy would it be to get tickets?   I would assume it would be pretty tough with both teams being divisional rivals.  But would we be able to show up day of the game and buy at the gate or would we need to purchase tickets in advance?

#2 Affordability.  What are some of the cheapest seats you can get, and would they be worth it?  I'm a Cubs fan, but the guys I'm with aren't really huge baseball fans.  We'd be probably going more for the experience than anything else, and we are generally cheap.

Thank you for taking the time for looking at this.

Bucs Dugout Getting tickets at PNC

Hello Pirates fans, I have a random set of questions that I would really appreciate if someone would answer.

A group of friends and I are planning a road trip that goes through Pittsburgh at the beginning of August, when the Pirates are hosting Washington and Arizona, and we are considering stopping by for a game.   With that, here are the questions:

#1 How easy would it be to get tickets?  I would assume easier those series since the Nationals are so horrible, and Arizona isn't good either.  But would we be able to show up day of the game and buy at the gate or would we need to purchase tickets in advance?

Bleed Cubbie Blue MLB Network Showing Kerry Wood's 20 K day

Random thing I came across, 2 PM to 4:30 today they are showing the entire game.  It's very interesting to get this look back, seeing a lot of names I haven't heard in a long time, and getting to hear Chip and Stoney call a game again.

It's also really odd to see Wrigley so empty.  So many empty seats during what turned out to be such a historic day.

Anyway, it's a fun little look back if you happen to have nothing better to do.

Stampede Blue MrNFL's First Round Mock Draft

I'm not a college football expert by any means, and most of what I know about players come from scouting websites.  (I refuse to watch D1-A as long as the BCS exists)  But I'm a big "Fix your biggest flaw" type of guy, and took that along with everything else to make my mock.

And I need eight more words to finish.

Stampede Blue Torry Holt's a Jaguar

Great, just what we needed, a tougher division rival.  Holt will be a big upgrade from the nothingness that they had at WR before.

Granted, the Jaguars are still a flawed team, but I'm not looking forward to seeing Holt twice a year.

Former St. Louis Rams wide receiver Torry Holt agreed to a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday that could be worth as much as $20 million, according to a source.  (From ESPN)

Stampede Blue Obscure free agent DT the Colts could target

Looking through the free agent list, I saw a name that intrigued me as someone the Colts could consider getting.

His name is Ellis Wyms, he's a 29 year old veteran at 6-3. 290 pounds.  He's a veteran of the Cover 2, as he was with Tampa from 2001 to 2006.  He was in Seattle in 2007 and the Vikings last year.

He's probably just as good as our current craptastic NT's, I don't think it'd be too hard for him to learn the system, and I'm sure he'd sign at the veteran minimum.

While we still NEED to draft DT, this is a guy who could bring some well needed depth to the team.

Thoughts?

Windy City Gridiron Cutler's a Bear

Saw it on ESPN's ticker, and a notice is on NFL.com.  No official link is up yet.  When it is, I'll update it here.

I'm really curious to see what the Bears had to give up to get him.  I think don't think Kyle Orton is all that bad, so if they gave up a ton to get Jay, then I'm not sold on it.

Although it's possible they did trade Orton, I don't know.
