Litter Box Cats Panthers have most expensive hot dog in NHL.

And third priciest beer by the ounce. Sorry, but that's absolutely insane imo, as this team needs to be more affordable being in one of the worst economic regions of the USA AND for having sucked for so long. But it just goes back to the fact, they're marketing the team to the wealthy. Not the local, diehard fanbase.

Litter Box Cats Rotoworld: In the Crease: Southeast Division Preview

FLORIDA PANTHERS

Roster Movements

The Panthers changed so much during the off-season, but the place to start is fairly obvious. When the Panthers acquired Brian Campbell from the Chicago Blackhawks for Rostislav Olesz during the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, they set the standard for all their other off-season moves. The Panthers needed to add an absurd amount of salary just to reach the salary cap floor, but with the acquisition of Campbell, they showed that they were looking to add veterans – some of whom are significant question marks going into the 2011-12 campaign – to long-term contracts, as opposed to inking a lot of one or two-year deals as stopgap measures until their farm players are able to take over.

Litter Box Cats Other NHL Teams Potentially in Trouble.

Other NHL Teams Potentially in Trouble.

Another club believed barely hanging on in their current location are the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers are currently owned by Sunrise Sports and Entertainment, whose chairman is Cliff Viner, who took over sole control last summer after being a co-purchaser of the long-struggling franchise in November 2009.

Viner has vowed to make the Panthers – which this past season set an NHL record for the most consecutive season without making the playoffs (10) – a competitive team, and launched into a serious rebuilding mode under former Chicago Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon.

It’s too early to tell how well Tallon’s rebuilding efforts work out, but it will likely take several years before they bear fruit.

In the meantime, the Panthers have all but dropped out of sight in the Miami sports market. Attendance figures are rumored to have been padded by ticket giveaways, a report earlier this year claimed an infomercial was outdrawing them in TV ratings, and while they have plenty of salary cap space, aren’t expected to be a preferred destination for free agent stars.

(Update: Michael Yormark, SSE president and COO, tweeted the Panthers were not in the top ten in the NHL in ticket comps this season, plus their sponsor revenue was in the top third of the NHL. Good to see Yormark is determined to “better educate the media on the health” of the Panthers, as there’s been a lot of reports suggesting the franchise is in trouble. My thanks to Panthers play-by-play man Steve Goldstein for re-tweeting Yormark’s recent tweets to me).

Still, the TV ratings issue remains troubling, as does their attendance, which for last season was 22nd overall in the league, playing to an average of 81.1% capacity, up slightly from last season’s 78.7%.

Litter Box Cats Sending congratulations out to Robbie Tallas

Reading The Parklander while "taking a break" at work, and saw the Panthers own announced as gettin married yesterday, May 28th. Congratulations to the new couple.

From page 28, as there's no link for it on their website...

Luciana and Robbie met at Bova restaurant in Boca in September, 2007. They dated a year and a half before Robbie proposed. He reserved a 100-foot private yacht, just for the two of them, and the captain. The boat stopped in the middle of the ocean. Robbie asked Luciana up to the front of the boat, bent down on one knee and proposed.

Classy guy. Whoever thought a hockey player could be so romantic?

Goes on to say they're register at Macy's and planning on honeymooning in Europe next year.
