New Orleans Hornets Decline to Extend Solomon Jones

Seeing as how it seemed certain by yesterday that Jones would be resigned, the Hornets declined to resign him for the rest of the year today. I suppose the team already has Lance Thomas and figures they don't want two marginal big men on the roster. However, Jones was outperforming Thomas as of late (with some really good games) and I'm surprised they didn't keep him.

Game 38: Hornets (9-28) @ Trail Blazers (18-19)

A game thread for the Hornets match-up at Portland.

Trevor Ariza Likely To Miss Game Versus Mavericks

Apparently Ariza, who was ill against Toronto, is too sick to play tonight. So he'll sit out tonight and Al-Farouq Aminu will likely start in his place. The article also mentioned that the Hornets will also still be without Emeka Okafor, Jason Smith and Carl Landry.

Hornets to Sign Lance Thomas For Remainder of Season

Looks like the Hornets are going to sign Lance Thomas for the rest of the season and extend Solomon Jones another 10 day contract.

Monty Williams Puzzled by Kaman's Injury

Odd story here. Apparently, Kaman sprained his ankle in warm-ups and practiced with it wrapped heavily on Sunday. When Monty was asked about it, instead of ignoring it, he stated that he wasn't sure how he got injured. Don't know what to make of it but plenty conclusions can be made. Also says that Jarrett Jack will be out at least another week. He re-injured the knee playing against Chicago on Wednesday.

New Orleans Hornets Say they Plan to Keep Eric Gordon Long-Term

Encouraging news, whether it be lip service or not, from the team that said the contract extension talks have left no residual effects on the team. ‘We made good faith and amicable efforts to reach an agreement on a contract extension over the past few days,’ said Hornets General Manager Dell Demps. ‘Unfortunately, although close, we did not reach an agreement. Eric will be a restricted free agent this summer and we are optimistic and encouraged with the opportunity to sign Eric to a contract that will make him a member of the Hornets organization and community for years to come.’

Hornets Trying To Sign Mexican Center Gustavo Ayon

The New Orleans Hornets are in pursuit of a possible backup center, Gustavo Ayon, a Mexican player currently under contract with a rather large buyout, sources said Sunday night. Ayon, 6 feet 10, 245 pounds, has been a member of the Mexican national basketball team since 2007. A member of the Hornets' staff, sources said, scouted the 26-year-old several times prior to the start of the 149-day lockout.

A Time to Reflect: Chris Paul's Tenure

A look back at and appreciation of Chris Paul's time with the New Orleans Hornets.

Sources -- Clippers, Hornets Agree

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a deal in principle with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to acquire guard Chris Paul, according to sources close to the process. The Clippers, sources said, will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul.

Good for the city of New Orleans. Sometimes, the city needs to be patted on the back. They've been drug through the mud by the media and also by the organization when it comes to the Hornets and they really responded this offseason. It's a shame that Chris Paul has overshadowed all the great things the organization and city have accomplished even during the uncertain time concerning the lockout.

New Orleans Hornets Closer to Negotiating With New Buyers

"'We have improved the financial situation of the team, and now we're getting ready to start to talk, to have serious dialogues ... with potential buyers,' Sperling said Wednesday night while attending a social event aimed at boosting community support." It's about time.

Glen Rice, Sarah Palin Had A One Night Stand

Not recently, mind you. But still, I found this as pertinent information and worth passing along to my fellow ATHers. Glen Rice, as you'll all recall, is one of the better players from the franchises time in Charlotte and won the All Star Game MVP, as a Hornet, in 1997.

Hornets Coach Monty Williams Has Been In South Africa

As part of the Basketball Without Borders Program, our beloved Head Coach has spent his time in the lockout giving back to those involved in the program in Johannesburg along with 20 former players and coaches. Is there any reason not to like this guy?

Chevron Becomes New Orleans Hornets' Fifth Major Corporate Sponsor

With the Hornets picking up some serious sponsors this summer and with the fan support in terms of the season ticket sales... all with no definite season and all with no owner... that's pretty damn admirable.

New Orleans Coach Monty Williams Hires Veteran Assistant Dave Hanners

Hanners has been around the block, basically working exclusively with UNC and then with Larry Brown in the NBA. He's spent the last two years as the lead assistant under Larry Brown in Charlotte but, with Randy Ayers already taking the lead assistant job, I assume that Hanners will not be assuming that role here in New Orleans.

Report: David West eyes October return

May just be hype for his impending free agency but who really knows? Either way, it's not out of the realm of possibility. ACL tears typically take 6-8 months to rehab and October would make about 6 to 7 months since he tore his ACL in late March. Encouraging sign for West.

Hornets Offer Season Ticket Holders Options

Kind of interesting and I haven't heard if any other franchise has offered this kind of deal. Essentially the Hornets e mailed all of their season ticket holders and mentioned how the team will give the fans two options if games are cancelled this season: either they get a refund with interest for any game that is cancelled or a roll over credit with added incentives for any game that is cancelled. I think it's a pretty neat idea and a good gesture by the Hornets to the New Orleans citizens considering there was a lot of grumbling after the "10,000 season tickets sold" fiasco about a month ago.

Jarrett Jack Suspended For First Game Of Next Season

Stemming from his arrest for drunk driving during the All Star Break, Jarrett Jack pleaded no contest to the law and received a one game suspension from David Stern. Oh no! More turmoil! Jack will be suspended for the first game of the next season (whenever that may be) without pay.

Aaron Gray Tells Hornets He's Opting Out

Kind of a doomsday here for Hornets fans. Gray's opting out doesn't really surprise me considering how well he played in the postseason. What demands he has for a new contract will probably play the biggest role in whether or not he returns to New Orleans. Definitely leaves the team thin with options, though. Possibly by force, the Hornets will be very active in free agency this offseason.

Williams Promotes Ayers to Lead Hornets Assistant

Monty has stated that he'll look to fill an assistant coaching void left by Ayers being promoted but that he'll be diligent in that process. Instead of looking elsewhere the Hornets promoted Randy Ayers, who was the Head Coach for the 76ers for part of the 2003/04 season, into the role left vacant after Mike Malone's departure.

Hornets Assistant Malone Meets With Warriors

Well it's become increasingly obvious that the Hornets will be looking for a new lead assistant for next season, because Mike Malone has met with Warriors ownership about their vacant head coaching job after meeting with the Lakers about their lead assistant position. Malone has also been rumored to be a candidate for the now vacant Raptors job as well but even if he's not offered a head coaching job, he's more likely to take the lead assistant job in Los Angeles than stay at his lead assistant job in New Orleans.

Top Ten Moments of Season: #2 - The 10 Game Winning Streak

At one point, the Hornets stood at 11-1 and held the NBA's best record.  They were coming off of a season where they had missed the playoffs and entered the year with a new General Manager, a new...

New Orleans Hornets grant Lakers Permission to Interview Lead Assistant Mike Malone

From the times-picayune. It makes sense why there would be interst on Malone's part. He worked with Mike Brown in Cleveland all five years that Brown was there and the Lakers are a much more glamorous job than the Hornets are. Malone was mentioned as a candidate for the Rockets head coaching job this offseason as well. Given all that's been said, it may not seem likely that Malone stays in New Orleans but I hope he does as he's done a great job as an assistant with the team.

Top Ten Moments of Season: #6 - Emeka Okafor's Shot
