Gregg Williams????
Not the "he who shall not be named" Greg Williams, but the Defensive Coach Greg williams has supposedly talked to the cowboys about a job.
http://beta.profootballtalk.com/2008...
Now I know many of discount Profootballtalk, but they are just reporting what Adam Schefter is reporting ("rumor-monger" moniker asider).
What in the heck would Williams bring since he is a 4-3 coach. I would much rather have Capers over Williams.
A hypothetical trade
So it doesnt seem as if Bobby Carpenter will ever get a shot here. (Granted he could with Pasqualoni gone).
But lets the Boys are destined to move him, would you trade him str8 up for the Chris Mortensen hyped Matt Jones?
Why Dave Campo and not, say Ray Rhodes?
I'll preface this by saying that I don't Campo's ability as a DB coach.
However the part I don't like is that Wade didn't get to hire a DB coach familiar in the 3-4. This is a Jerry-hire, and I don't like the fact he is doing the hiring (like he did with Houck over Solari).
I am also wondering why we didnt inquire about Ray Rhodes. He is a native Texan. Has been successful everywhere he has been and I am sure he would light a fire in Roy Williams arse.

I mean the guy signed on to be an assistant DB coach in Houston.
Bill Parcells 10 (11) Commandments
So I was watching Sportscenter and Stuart Scott with the ugliest suit I have ever seen introduced Parcells.
Parcells went on to discuss his commandments for a QB like be conditioned, avoid outside advice, etc. Hopefully someone can find the text of it somewhere online.
I wonder how similiar this list is to the list Bill left for Romo at the end of the year.
Greg Ellis given his restructured contract
I wonder if the fact he had his contract in hand was a motivation in him playing today.
Current Salary Cap Status
Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports has a good article out on salary cap status of teams.
Ranking the WRs -CNNSI.com

Dennis Dillon of The Sporting news has a great breakdown of Phillips 34 vs Parcells 2 Gap 3-4.
Tuna Talks
So it seems our beloved former coach Bill Parcells is talking to someone from the national media:
Basically the q and a that garners the most attention is the first question.
Q. Are you definitely done with coaching, and would you consider coming back as a general manager?
A. No and no. I've been doing this since 1964. Do the math. There are guys — and I pay tribute to them, Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno — who keep going forward. I think college football is a little different than professional. It's more games and a longer season in the pros. I'm 65 years old. I've been doing it a long time.
Vonta Leach signed to offer sheet
Grizz' fave position of need, FB Vonta Leach was signed to an offer sheet by the New York Football Giants.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Giants have signed Texans fullback Vonta Leach, a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet.
Per Schefter, it's a four-year deal worth $8 million, with $1.6 million in guaranteed money.
Todd Archer makes good points

Well Fowler is a goner... Look at the undrafted FA the cowboys have brought in that are getting play: Shaun Smith, Ryan Fowler, Terrence Copper. Not to mention seventh round picks Patrick Crayton, Jacque Reeves, Nate Jones who are still in the league and contributing.
Hopefully they can hit on Cory Proctor.
Kevin Kaesviharn to Saints
Saints agreed to terms with S Kevin Kaesviharn on a four-year, $10 million contract. The deal includes a $3.25 million signing bonus.
Kaesviharn adds a veteran presence to a youthful secondary, but his play-making ability can't be overlooked after he picked off six passes as a reserve in 2006. The former XFLer will at least help in nickel situations, and could start as Roman Harper rehabs from his torn ACL
Very Reasonable contract.
Ryan Fowler Update
He is not going to sign a contract with the Philadelpha Eagles. Instead he'll sign with the Tennessee Titans instead. They are offering more money upfront. The Cowboys are not going to match, obviously. At least he'll be in the AFC instead of our own NFC East. This is great news for him and great news for Cowboys fans.
What to do with Marco Rivera
If Marco Rivera is able to rehab and feels he is healthy enough to play, then how about keeping him for next year. It wouldnt save any money cap wise to release him, even after June 1. So why not keep him on the roster, let him mentor the Proctors and Bergers of the roster (something he is supposedly good at) and maybe even push some competition at RG (Davis vs Rivera) and consequently RT (Davis vs Colombo vs McQ).
I dont know what Riveras versatility is, but if he could be a backup at RG and LG, then thats a great backup to have.
Lets say you keep 8 lineman:
Flo,Kosier,Gurode,Davis,Colombo,Rivera (swing guard?), McQ (swing tackle),Proctor (G/C) or Berger.
I was for releasing Rivera because I didnt want him back as a starter, but I am starting to rethink of him as a Quality backup.
Not so quiet at the Ranch
DMN has 2 stories out on the state of the affairs. JJT has a column on TO not knowing the playbook http://www.cowboysplus.com/columnists/jtaylor/stories/031107cptaylor.373227f.html
Calvin Watkins has a story on Marco Rivera, who says he wants to come back next season.

Torrance Holt off the board
Torrance Holt signed with the Cardinals. Its a 5 year deal, financial terms were undisclosed.
Holt, who turned 27 years old on Monday, spent his first four seasons with Detroit. The 6-2, 208-pounder enjoyed his best season in 2006, registering a career-high 76 tackles to go along with three interceptions.
Al Johnson's Contract numbers
Cardinals C Al Johnson's new four-year contract is worth $17.5 million, including a $3.5 million signing bonus. Johnson will earn salaries of $3.5 million each season and has a cap figure of $4.4 million each year.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/0307cards0307.html
I personally think this might be good value for Johnson. Russ Grimm might/probably will do him some good.
Adam Schefter Reporting regarding Bigg Davis
Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that the Cowboys have given offensive lineman Leonard Davis a seven-year, $49.6 million contract, with $18.75 million in guaranteed money and $24 million paid out over the first three years of the contract.
The contract bests by $100,000 the deal signed on Friday by Eric Steinbach in Cleveland.
Stewart has been released from Contract
Update: Stewart headed to Cowboys
Chargers defensive backs coach Brian Stewart has been released from his contract and will become the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator.
Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips was the Chargers defensive coordinator from 2004-06. He has been trying to hire Stewart since he left.
The Chargers had initially balked at letting Stewart out of his contract but relented Saturday.
Stewart joined the Chargers in 2004.
The team on Wednesday hired Bill Bradley to coach the secondary with Stewart. The team plans on hiring a replacement for Stewart.
