Special Week (TBS sponsored) NAHWAL Prize Package arrived today!

The men I know have already placed dibs on the golf balls, computer tote and Nike sports shirt (no room for boobage, so I let it go). Alas, I'm left with the tumbler which is very cool and I'll have to use it while blogging during the games next year.

A nice handwritten note inside was a touch of class.

First of all, to those diehard regulars that have participated in the Open Threads this year on Talking Chop, let me say THANK YOU for making them a unique and fun way to enjoy the ballgames.

You have given this Braves fan a whole new perspective and respect for the diverse and educated fan base that supports the Atlanta Braves. You all have helped educate me more about the game of baseball, the players, management and coaches of the Braves and most importantly, what's to look forward to as we look to the future with this franchise.

Now that the season's end is fast approaching with just 3 games left, I thought about a fun way to wrap up our interaction with one another until we get back at it again next year. Here's what I've come up with...

I was wondering this morning about Chipper and this record. Logged in to see how close he is and I saw this great article about it.

I hope he can manage 3 more this year.

It would be a silver lining to his frustrating season.

I hope not.

The article states:

"The Braves have worked hard to try to improve the game-day experience for fans. But the bottom line numbers won’t reflect that this year. According to announced attendance figures — and I stress the word announced — the Braves have averaged 29,300 in 69 home games, with 12 to go. That is tracking to be a record low for the team at Turner Field, just below the 29,399 they drew in 2004."

Does Riggleman Make A Valid Point?

I agree with his comments that players should keep playing hard even if they're not in the playoff hunt. That's what Tejada said last night about the Astros in their victory over the Braves - that they are going to strive to win until the season is over. The fans deserve it IMO.

Braves Fans In The Military

The recent replies to the FanPost by dolphinsinbuffalo gave me an idea. I’m curious as to how many Braves fans who frequent Talking Chop are veterans or currently serving in the military either here at home or abroad.

As a wife of a Navy veteran, I appreciate the years he gave of himself to serve and I thought a thread to publicly say THANK-YOU to all who have served and are currently serving would be nice. The sacrifice you and your family give should never be taken for granted.

If you are currently serving, would you share with us how you are able to keep up with the Braves and how often you are able to see or hear the games? May God keep you and your fellow servicemen and women safe and if you’re stationed abroad, may you be reunited with your families soon.

I look forward to your comments and I know personally after reading them - it will make me appreciate even more my ability to simply go in the family room, click on the large screen HD television and find any of 3 possible channels that provide the games for me and my family.

Chipper Jones & 500 HRs

Having coffee with hubby this morning discussing the Braves and our conversation turned to Chipper Jones specifically. We're wondering if he will play long enough (and stay healthy enough) to reach the 500 mark in HRs before his playing days are over.

I did a quick search to see if it had been discussed here before and after not finding a dedicated thread to it, he suggested I take the opportunity to post my very first FanPost and ask the TC community how they feel about it.

I looked up Chipper's stats on BaseballReference.com and see that as of today, (at 37 yrs of age) he stands at 417 HRs. We're optimistic and think if he stays somewhat healthy (those dogs of his behave) he can do it. What do you think?

I'd like to add that I personally hope to see him do it in an Atlanta Braves uniform.
