Coach Cronin earning respect among fight drama
I will not lie, I have never looked at Mick Cronin as an accesptional coach. He may have led the team to the NCAA, but I was never really sold...Until now!
I am really shocked at the lack of suspentions that were gave out!
After all, I sort of expected some of the players to miss conference games or even get kicked off of the team!
Coach Cronin has been the one bright spot in all of this. His respect for the sport and institution have given the Cats something positive to take from this. His stern comments and understanding that the players emberassed the school is what will allow this team to grow.
Hopefully as the year progresses they will be able to make a push for the tourney! Even if they can't get over the bubble, the Cats certainly have a coach for the long term!
My best attempt at a UFC 125 prediction
The BE staff has been doing an awesome job with their predictions for UFC 125, but I wanted to throw my two cents into the hat.
Here they are....
The perfect way to put the finishing touches on the holiday season is UFC 125. The celebration is not over. Call the boys and pull up a chair!
This awesome fight card has the makings of an incredible fight night that is sure to have a ton of fireworks and action.
The calm before the storm is upon us. Can Frankie Edgar win again as the underdog? Can Chris Leben prove that the post-steroid fighter is better? Can Nate Diaz submit his way into title contention? Can Clay Guida continue to be the UFC’s most exciting fighter but get a win?
Time to play Ms. Cleo.
Wait till you see my upset special!!!!!
During the weigh- ins one of the funniest things in MMA happened right before our eyes. Two falling stars entered with walkers and diapers, or was it just Phil Baroni and Mark Coleman? Actually, Phil looked to be in very good shape and prompted me to ask… ”what is he taking?” Tavaras is a tough fighter that is hoping to use the New Yorker as a stepping stone. Let’s be honest, the loser of this one could be the next on the UFC’s chopping block.
Everyone knows Phil is going to start strong and drag early. Tavares will weather the early storm and Rope-a-dope long enough to tire him out and get a TKO win.
Josh Grispi vs. Dustin Poirier
Grispi is a young Bostonian that is looking to make a home in the UFC. He won four straight in the WEC and could be the next real competitor to challenge for the belt. No belt here, he will take on Poirier, a game fighter who will look to out-dual Grisip in this battle of little guys.
Grispi went from fighting Aldo to Dustin. While it puts him at an uncomfortable cross road, he should win this one. He has a knack for finishing fights out of no where and this could be one more highlight reel finish.
Marcus Davis vs. Jeremy Stephens
This is one of the most promising fights on the card. Both of these guys are exciting in every outing, and will have no problems doing it here. Marcus Davis is in no man’s land by losing three of four and another loss puts him in a very bad spot. Stephens may be more than just a Lil Heathen, he is a huge challenge for Davis. His stand up isn’t as good but his wrestling is better.
I am going to go a bit different than many outlets. I not only think Marcus Davis wins this one, I think he wins it decisively. While Stephens’ wrestling is better, he is smaller. Davis will be able to use his length and boxing initially, and a surprisingly strong ground and pound display to finish the fight.
Is there any doubt that this will be an exciting fight? Guida is a fighter that pushes forward 100% of the time. He is arguably the most exciting fighter on the UFC’s roster. The big question in this one will be will Gomi be the fighter he was in Pride, or the one that showed up against Ken-Flo?
DING… Guida rushes to the middle to meet Gomi…This is where it gets interesting. Gomi has impressive one punch power. Guida tends to be reckless and leaves a ton of angles that can be exploited. If Guida stays tries to drop his head and slug it out, then it could be a quick night. He opens up for a nasty uppercut that with Gomi’s KO power could end the bout. Instead of push push push, he needs to use that energy in bursts taking advantage of his experience and comfort in the cage to dominate the former Pride champ. If Guida can keep Gomi in the cage and on his back then he will win. I don’t think he will be able to do that, and the overall skill set of Gomi allows him to eventually hit one of those gaps and finishes the fight.
Nate Diaz is the UFC’s bad boy. He is both hated and loved every time he walks into the cage. He welcomes the Boo Birds with a smile and often a win. His jits makes him the same as a home run hitter. Instead of getting walks, opponents keep the fight standing to stay out of his area of strength. Kim has shown no lack of confidence coming into this one. He is planning on defeating Diaz and starting his won title run.
Diaz will use his hands to disrupt Kim. Nate may not have KO power but his version of punches in bunches is often as effective. Kim is a wrestler but will initially try to keep this one standing. If it hits the ground Diaz will try to lock onto an arm or leg and finish it. If Kim gets in trouble he will look for the take down, putting him into a bad spot. His jits is good but eventually he will make a mistake. Watch out for a slick submission from the bottom off of a scramble or take down. Diaz wins his third straight and gets a huge bump in competition.
On paper Vera has the tools to be a champion (but you know what you can do with that paper). Thiago throws leather and will be head hunting. Both fighters need a good win, and they will be pressing to get this one. Vera has always been a confusing fighter to watch, sometimes he shows up a beast and others he doesn’t. If he doesn’t show up for this one then he will be in trouble. Speaking of looking bad, you can’t say anything good about Thiago’s fight against Rashad Evans. While the loser more than likely doesn’t get cut from the UFC, it is a start to the end.
Overall Vera has the tools to dominate Silva, but I am not sure he will be able to put it all together. I expect an onslaught of punches and a TKO stoppage at some point in favor of Silva.
Talk about your complete opposites… Leben has been busted for steroids, a DUI, and spritzing, while Stann is the All American hero. The good guys don’t always win, and once they step into the cage none of that matters. A win for Stann officially puts him on the UFC map, a loss by Leben puts an end to his current title run and solidifies him as a career gatekeeper.
My largest critique of Stann in the WEC was his inability to improve his combinations and striking. So much that it was often telegraphed and a good fighter with a decent staff could game plan against it. He has started getting out of it, but in trouble he reverts back to it. If he does this against Leben then he will go to sleep. Leben is a brawler and is never out of it till the final bell. Expect this one to go to the ground…I know I know… When it does Stann will be tested. In my upset special, Stann over Leben by GnP.
Gray Maynard vs. Frankie Edgar
Is it me or is this bout not getting the attention it should? These are the two best lightweights in the entire world! How weird is it that the champ is an underdog? I can’t wait for this one. Edgar will try to use his quickness to be in and out and avoid Maynard’s punishment. He will try to mirror his second Penn fight, and if he does then he will have all but cleaned out this division already.
Everyone seems to be picking Maynard. While Maynard is tough, it could be time for him to suffer his first loss. However could it be that Edgar just had Penn’s number, or has he really improved? I see Gray being Gray and winning a very close split decision in a bore fest that only wrestlers will love. He will be the stronger man and will use his size to slow down Edgar.
Who Is The World's Best? 135, 145, and 155 Weight Class Ranking
BE has a great ranking system which can be found at this link.
Rankings are a completely opinionated and biased poll in which each person is going to have something different. Dana White hates rankings, but we all love them. Here is another ranking of the best the little guys in the world!
Instead of blowing up the fan posts and putting up three different ones, I put all three in this one.
Bantamweight (135 and down) 1. Dominick Cruz
Dominick Cruz is considered the world’s best 135′er after his latest victory over Scott Jorgenson. In this fight he dominated getting his seventh straight victory. Congrats Mr. Cruz, you are my #1 and the newest UFC champ. Rankings aside, don’t be surprised if Cruz gets a huge fight against Urijah Faber within the next six months. Cruz could also be tapped as a future coach on TUF.
After suffering a loss to Cruz earlier in the year, Joseph rebounded with a nasty submission victory over Wagnney Fabiano. No small order in itself, that win helped promote Benazidez into the number two spot. Many wouldn’t have him this high on this list, but like Bowles he suffered a defeat, but he did not let it affect him. His return to the drawing board helped him defeat Fabiano spring boarding him above Bowles in this ranking.
3. Brian Bowles
Although Brian lost his last fight, he still jumps in at the third spot on this list. Arguably number two on some rankings, Brian has never went to decision and has a nasty all around game. Bowles may be number three, but barely. A decisive win very well could escalate him into the number two spot. Bowles could have a huge 2011! His fight game is sick and could help him become a super star in front of the larger audiences of the UFC.
4. Urijah Faber
Is it possible a fighter can be in the top five after going 3-3 in his last 6 bouts? It is if they were the face of an organization and the benefactor of a recent weight cut. That is exactly where Faber is as he holds the four spot on this poll. He is only holding on by threads, but I am comfortable calling him the fourth best. If he can put together a few consecutive wins then Faber will be back toward the top of this list. If not, it will be proof he is past his prime and on the decline. Faber’s UFC tenure will be an interesting one. Expect them to use his name sake, and don’t be surprised if he headlines a future show in front of his home state of California.
I recently took some heat for a “troll” like article in which I called GSP’s inability to finish boring (found here). This is MMAOpinion and another opinion is that excitement is important. This personal opinion resulted in Miguel Torres coming in at the five spot. Before he lost to Brian Bowles he was on a 17 fight win streak. That is unheard of! Since then he has lost two of three but a change in scenery may have been needed. Now with the UFC Torres can use the attention to catapult into a very good position. His two losses were to two guys above him in this ranking, and in all honestly he is possibly one big time win away from being the #1 contender and a title shot.
1. Jose Aldo
Taking the number spot as the best at 145 is Jose Aldo. Undefeated in the WEC, Aldo is putting together a who’s who of a resume. His last three opponents could all end up on this top five but he outlasted them all. Aldo leg kicked his way through the California Kid and hasn’t stopped since. In nine fights he has finished eight of them. He is dominating everyone! Jose is the world’s best, and at this point number two isn’t very close.
Two and three on this list are in their respective spots due to the organization of which they fight. It may not be fair, but Dream has tougher little guys than Bellator. Bibiano is the current Dream title holder and is riding a five fight win streak. On New Year’s Eve he will take on Hiroyuki Takaya in a rematch of the fight that earned Bibiano his title. Fernandes hasn’t lost since, and a loss here kills his number two ranking.
3. Joe Warren
Warren may be the best fighter the Bellator organization has to offer. He has never been defeated under their banner, and is fresh off of a TKO to prove his worth. Warren is hoping to be a very busy man in 2011. He will compete at least twice then step into the 135 pound Bellator tourney. All before he tries his hand at making the Olympics. All in all Warren is currently riding a huge wave of momentum. He is not shy to tell everyone that he is the best in the world, but if his talent doesn’t equal his mouth then he will drop on this list very soon.
Manny was once a beast in the UFC, but his size kept him from succeeding among the world’s best. A drop in weight and a move to the WEC revamped his MMA career. The move sparked a three fight win streak which included a very impressive KO of Mike Brown. That victory got Manny a title fight, but our number one is just that much better than anyone else. Manny may be a surprise at number four, but he is finally at his perfect weight and a move back to the UFC has him ready for a huge 2011.
Sandro’s 17-1 record and impressive KO streak of three fights earned him this spot. The Sengoku and Pancrase champion is well on his way to becoming a super star in 2011. Although he is enjoying Japanese MMA, a move to the UFC’s new division wouldn’t be a shocker. Fights between Marlon and Fernandes have been rumored, but he will be putting his title on the line against Hatsu Hioko December 30th. Hioki isn’t the caliper of fighter that anyone on this list is, and a loss really hurts Sandro’s chances of being the world’s best.
Like the 135 pound class, the 145′ers are just as exciting. The UFC/WEC merger may help this class more than any other. The Faber-less 145 class is left to be dominated by younger, quicker, more athletic fighters who will look to become the future of the division.
If Jose Aldo can’t rebound from his recent injury problems, then that division, and all world rankings will be wide open for the taking!
Lightweights (146-155)
The UFC’s Fighter of The Year, it is no surprise that Edgar steals the top spot in this poll. In his last two fights he made a future hall of famer look uncomfortable in the cage. He dominated Penn winning both times. Edgar has won five straight and will be looking to avenge his only loss at the UFC’s New Years card. Edgar is a great wrestler that can stand up or take the fight to the ground. Funny thing is, I would not be surprised if Edgar fought some at 145 in the future. A super fight with Jose Aldo or Urijah Faber could happen late in 2011. Edgar has a huge man-date with Gray Maynard in January which will have huge implications on this ranking.
2. Gray Maynard
This is where the typical ranking has Gilbert Melendez, but I have good reason why Gray is here. First off he has never been defeated and owns a victory over the top guy on this list. Secondly, something should be said for having such a record against the best of the best. Call it bias, but the UFC’s lightweights are much better than Strikeforce’s and as a result Maynard steals the spot. Could Josh Thompson beat Nate Diaz, Kenny Florian, or Roger Huerta (no)? Gray can be described as a hard nosed tough guy with a very strong wrestling pedigree. Over time he has developed a complimentary stand up game, and is a true force in this weight class. Maynard has the chance to get two up on Edgar in January. It is hard to beat a person twice, but if he can then he will be known as champ and possibly the best light weight in the world.
3. Gilbert Melendez
Strikeforce fans, here is your boy. Gilbert is arguably (but I don’t think he is) Strikeforce’s best fighter outside of Fedor. He is 18-2 all time and has cleaned out the division. Gilbert has suddenly found himself in no man’s land. There just isn’t anyone else for him to fight. The only person he can fight is Eddie Alvarez, but that doesn’t seem like anything close to a done deal. Melendez has hinted at a move to the UFC, but until then he is stuck fighting the best Strikeforce can throw at him, and unfortunately those guys aren’t as good as the UFC’s guys. It ends up being a lose lose situation the longer he stays with the org. A win gets him nothing, but a loss destroys his ranking and overall lightweight status.
4. Shinya Aoki
Aoki and his Japanese pajama pants slide in at the four spot. He has won three straight after a unanimous loss to Melendez. Gilbert is number three on this poll and two on many others, that loss is important but doesn’t drop him significantly. Aoki will return to fight at DREAM’s New Year’s Eve card in a circus type of fight against K1 vet Nagashima. The rules are weird having one round MMA one round K1… Bouts like this ask for trouble and are using his name sake to promote sales. This reminds me of the Fedor vs. Choi fight in the sense that its more of a joke than fight.
5. Eddie Alvarez
Eddie is the black sheep on this list. He fights for Bellator which is at best the third most successful organization in the world. After Alvarez their second best light weight is Roger Huerta who may not even want to fight. Over his last two fights he has defeated UFC fall outs Josh Neer and Huerta. While winning is awesome, beating guys that couldn’t hack it in other orgs will certainly not get you a high ranking. The Bellator champ has won six straight since falling prey to Aoki and his submission pants. That heel hook was nasty, but if Eddie wants to climb up this ranking he needs to fight better guys. I am not certain the rumored fight between him and Gilbert Melendez will ever happen. Eddie may be happy in Bellator, but as long as he stays there he is sheltered and will never be considered the best.
Am I the only person that finds it weird that BJ Penn didn’t make this list? I haven’t been adding an honorable mention, but if I did it would be him. I think Penn could defeat all but one or two on this list, but after two losses in the division I can’t add him. He dropped a shell of the man once known as Matt Hughes, and may come back stronger than ever. Penn has talked about fighting at 170, but if he stays at 155 then he is only two fights out of a title shot. Penn is certainly the wrench in all of this. Edgar may just have his number but a win streak puts the Hawaiian legend back on this list.
Without question the UFC’s class of fighters at 155 is far superior than everyone else. Their up and coming prospects such as Jim Miller could do very well in Bellator, DREAM, or Strikeforce. It will be interesting to see what 2011 has in store for the weight class and what moves are made. Don’t expect to close the curtain on 2011 with all of these top five fighters all in the same organization.
The New Years weekend is huge for the lightweights and will be interesting to see how it all unfolds!
Did GSP overtake Lyoto Machida as MMA's Most Boring?
Lyoto Machida was once known as the type that "manipulated the rules in his favor to win."
Does finishing one fight a year mean a fighter is trying to finish???
Although extremely boring, the art of Machida kept him on the winning side of fights.
GSP proved against Koscheck that he can win, but has GSP taken over the persona asthe UFC’s most boring?
Over the past two years GSP has only been able to finish two fight. His stoppage against B.J. Penn was without a doubt a rare one and Matt Serra was nothing but a one hit wonder.
While stating that GSP is boring may get its own share of debate, one thing that can’t be questioned is his ability to finish. He has all of the skill in the world, but he chooses not to destroy.
Money doesn't bring happiness...but have you ever seen anyone pissed off on a Jet-Ski?
In his last 15 rounds it is far fetched to find one that he has lost, however it is just as difficult to find one where he laid it all out on the line and pushed for the finish.
Action vs. winning is not a debate. A fighter’s job is to win. Sure, they all say that being interesting is the priority, but winning is everything.
Kalib Starnes, Junie Browning, and Kimbo are all exciting and interesting fighters, but they all sucked!
Is game planning and his camp partially to blame?
Many feel that it is unfair to call GSP boring, and they may be right. GSP’s understanding of MMA is a part of the reason he is arguably the best in the world.
The combination of the brilliant minds in his camp, and his understanding of the fight game put him at an extreme advantage. Combine that with his athletic ability and experience, and you have one of the best ever.
This know how helps him game plan and fight in an intelligent manner. While keeping his chin safe and out of trouble so that he can win is great, it does not always generate highlight reel knockouts, submissions, or strikes.
He is simply not willing to take three or four of their punches to land one of his.
This same safety net also results in him playing a prevent defense. In this case it simply prevents the opponent from doing any real damage, while he does the same.
i expect this debate is going to get a lot of attention and tons of comments!
What do you guys think?
My Take On The Debate, Anderson Silva Still World's Best.
Who is the world’s best pound for pound fighter? What a difference a few days, one fight, and hype will do for a ranking. George St. Pierre is without a doubt the best Canadian fighter ever. He is arguably the most popular Canadian sports star since Wayne Gretzky, but does a decision win over Josh Koscheck put him in rarefied air as the world’s best?
For the post in its entirety: I think not! This question is more of a riddle, puzzle, or brain teaser. More of a personal preference than right or wrong question. How can someone determine who is the best between two incredible fighters that are both future Hall of Famers, seem to be untouchable, whose styles are so different?
This is like asking who would you rather have at QB Peyton or Tom…There really is no wrong answer. Peyton….
To help us determine the P4P best, we will look at their last 5 fights.
GSP
1: Josh Koscheck by Unanimous Decision (UFC 124)
2: Dan Hardy by Unanimous Decision (UFC 111)
3: Thiago Alves by Unanimous Decision (UFC 100)
4: BJ Penn by TKO/ Ref Stoppage (UFC 94)
5: John Fitch by Unanimous Decision (UFC 87)
**GSP’s last loss was to Matt Serra (UFC 69, April 2007)**
1: Chael Sonnen by submission (UFC 117)
2: Demian Maia by Unanimous Decision (UFC 112)
3: Forrest Griffin by KO (UFC 101)
4: Thales Leites by Unanimous Decision (UFC 97)
5: Patrick Cote by Injury Stoppage (UFC 90)
**Silva’s last loss was to Yushin Okami due to illegal kicks (Rumble on the rock, January 2006)**
On paper the wins by GSP are better until you look at how the fight was finished. The largest chink (and its really not a fault) in GSP’s armor is that he doesn’t always finish fights. He is a very intelligent fighters that is more concerned with winning than highlights. Similar to an old school point guard, this is a great testament to his character and what he is attempting to accomplish as a Mixed Martial Artist.
Anderson Silva could have just been THAT much better than his competition. He rarely went to decision in this stretch and when he did it was because his challengerswere running from him! Sure, he was in deep trouble against Sonnen, but on paper all you see is a win. Champions find a way to win, and that is what he did.
What do you guys think? Can we learn anything by the records or is it an apple to orange comparison?

Is Dana White pulling a rabbit out of a hat?
I posted this at MMAOpinion.com, but wanted to share here to get more thoughts! Here is the article in its entirety.
Dana White gets bashed a lot, but this time around he is showing his true genius and ability in this sport.......Enjoy!
Magicians typically surprise us by pulling rabbits out of a hat, cutting up their attractive assistants, or making things disappear. You wont believe this, but Dana White has pulled his own magic trick right in front of our very eyes! The trick doesn’t include smoke or mirros. It actually begins and ends with the fighter known as Kimbo Slice.
What a difference a few years makes… In 2008 Dana White went on record making statements such as ”I would never have Kimbo Slice in the UFC”. It is no secret that Dana used to be at the head of the Kimbo hate parade, but suddenly Dana is quietly changing his tune.
On the eve before one of the best fight cards of the year, Dana White is sitting back in his super suite and has to be smiling from ear to ear. He theoretically used TUF to transform Kimbo from an Internet sensation turned Elite XC bomber, to UFC money man.
The weirdest part about the entire situation is that he actually has intelligent MMA media personalities and broadcasters picking in his favor. Could you imagine what the hardcore MMA type would have told youd two years ago if you would have said Kimbo would be in a UFC fight…and being picked by many to win? You would have been laughed at and called a troll…May have have your lunch money stolen, and told to get back to your MySpace or Facebook gangster game.
You can call Dana White many things, but genius has to be one of them. The brain that transformed a cult like sport into the mainstream market is doing it again with an overrated, over hyped, and under talented poster boy. Kimbo Slice the fighter doesn’t hold a candle to Kimbo Slice the legacy, and with the help of White, Zuffa, and the UFC the legacy is just beginning.
The next step in this process will take place Saturday night in front of a pumped Canadian crowd as he steps into the famed Octagon to face a guy politely nicknamed Meat Head. Mitrione in all aspects will be asked to do what Hous-Done Alexander was supposed to do.
Niether fighter are considered great by anyone other than their moms, but they will play a key role in this card. They are being called upon to stand in front of each other and bang. Providing the fans with an incredible display of excitement to get the paying viewers and attendees their moneys worth, and I fully expect these guys to do their part.
In terms of a prediction, in something I never thought I would say, I am taking Kimbo to win and be 2-0 in the UFC. With a win, I see him cutting to 205 and taking on Chuck Liddell in a crazy PPV lined up to combat another organizations fights.

My Crystal Ball: The Road to Miami ends today!
The 2009-2010 NFL season is quickly coming to a close right in front of our very eyes. It seems like yesterday I was at my own Fantasy Football Draft saying how great Matt Forte was and how lucky I was to get Burner Turner at pick 5.
Since that time there have been some great things happen in the NFL, and with one more win to get to Miami I pull out the crystal ball once again.
NY Jets at Indy:
Have you ever heard something so ridiculous that it just made you crack up on the inside? In my opinion that is what I keep hearing when all of these " professionals" continue to pick the NY Football Jets to upset Indy.
Really? The obvious key to the game is to keep QB extraordinaire Peyton Manning off of the field, but is that enough? Does anyone else remember the week 2 game between the Colts and Dolphins? It was a great one in which the Fins kept Mr. MVP on the sideline for the majority of the game, only to for the Colts to get a classic Peyton Manning win.
The Fins played Indy tough, but the Colts and Manning knew what they had to do to win, and they did. That game could be a perfect measure for this one. It is going to be defense vs. offense, Wayne vs. Revis, and legend vs. rookie.
If the Colts are going to win, then they will need to confuse Revis. No, they are not going to confuse him and make him wear shoes on the wrong feet, but they can get him mixed up in coverage. Revis will not cover Wayne one on one all day long. If he does then the Colts will win. They have too many weapons for the Jets to contain. Watch out for the inside slant to Dallas Clark to have a huge impact in this game.
Prediction: A lot of people are saying that this game is going to be close. If the Colts come out and score points in bunches early, then the Jets will be packing...Pants not shorts. I expect this one to be another notch on Peyton's belt as he pushes forth on another Super Bowl run. Colts over Jets 24-10.
The other game on the slate today is the barn burner at the Super Dome. Better known as Favre's push for perfection. Perfection meaning he has the chance to walk away on top as a champion.
This is going to be the game of the week. While it would be stupid ans selfish for us to ask for another Cardinals vs. Pack type of game, that could very well be what we are in store for. These are two of the best offenses in the game, with some of the most explosive and fun to watch players in the league.
First off...Brett Fav-Ra...How can anyone root against him? He is the prototypical good old boy. He is always smiling, and seems to be having more fun this season than any other. His good games (butt slaps) and constant talk will lighten the spirits of the Viks, but can he deliver the KO punch needed to put the Saints to sleep at home?
Simply put, the Saints have lightning in a bottle. They can put up 50 points and hold the other team to under 14. That is a dangerous combination. In this game they need to put pressure on Brett. Make him make decisions. Brett has thrown the most TD passes in history, but has also thrown the most picks. In this game a pick or two may be the difference in another Favre dominated off season and a trip to Miami. Pressure, Pressure, Pressure! Defense will win this game.
Prediction: My boy D is not going to like me for this one, but the Brett Favre fairytale will continue today. Brees has experience but Brett has the intangibles. If there is time on the clock and Brett has a chance to win the game...He will! Expect this one to be close, but a fumble by a prominent Saints player will be the difference.
See you guys in Miami for the Super Bowl!
My Crystal Ball: How the games will go this weekend.
No need to hype the games, they speak for themselves. Lets just get down to business!
Arizona at New Orleans: In the game that many think will be a scoring battle, more than likely will not be. I beg you, bet the under. This reminds me of a trap game in Vegas. Both teams are offensive juggernauts and will look to run up the score, but this will be a game about defense. It is unknown how drained the Cards will be, but the Saints will be ready to roll!
In all of their losses this season, the Cards have scored less than 21 points. This means that if the O is struggling their D can't keep them in the game. That fact alone makes me want to pick the Saints, whose D will be ready to punish those high flying birds.
Baltimore at Indy: Last weekend the Ravens punched Tom Brady and his dynasty in the mouth. They said we are going to run the ball, and you can't stop us. Turns out, they were correct. The Pats looked like a team that was failing a part at the seams. While many feel that Peyton is no Tom, I disagree, and the Colts are far from fading.
While I do feel that it is a matter of time before the karma of sitting Peyton catches up with them, this wont be the week. The Cards can't get into a striking match with the Saints, but the Colts can with the Ravens.
Ed Reed is getting healthier but he is still lacking a step. Reggie Wayne will use that lack of a step to show him some "cane" love. Indy and Peyton will be ready and put a whoopin on the Ravens at home.
Dallas at Minnesota: Who woulda thunk it...All of the off season talk about Mr. Wrangler him self... Now he is on one of the best team in the league, and it is not because of AP.
The funny part about this game is the confidence of the Dallas faithful. Win one playoff game in more than 12 years and they go crazy...Start talking Super Bowl...I have to be honest, Dallas is getting better, but no rings this year...
This is a bad match up for "America's Team". The Vikings are going to load the box and try to stop the high powered running game of the Boys. If they are successful in doing so, then it will all be in the hands of Tony Romo...Are you comfortable with that? Neither is he...
This will be the closest game of the weekend, but I expect Brett to have a typical 2 TD game and lead his team one step closer to his final retirement!
NY at San Dawg: This is the easiest to pick of this week. With four games to go in the regular season the jets weren't even considered playoff hopefuls, now they are ready to make the presence known.
The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets have one of the best defenses in the game. Their star corner is the definition of shutdown corner, but they have a rookie QB. Big Ben was a fluke his first year. Wont happen for the guys in green...
San Diego has been the quiet horse all year. Did you know that they have only lost 3 games all season and have won 11 straight? Not many people do! This could be a Super Bowl winning team! Rivers is playing great, they have a RB, top WR, and a solid D! Watch out, this game is going to be a blow out. The Jets are building for the future, but their season stops here.
Jaime Varner: 'The WEC should be called the Urijah Faber show'
Props: Curtis and Kyle
Quoteworthy:
"It should be called The Urijah Faber Show instead of World Extreme Cagefighting. They keep giving Faber all of the big promotional deals, in fact they just hooked him up with Amp Energy Drink. Amp just became the official energy drink of the WEC. I called the WEC regarding Amp about two months ago because a buddy of mine who works with Pepsi told me about it. I asked the WEC to get me on board with them and they said they would see what they could do. Lo and behold Faber got the deal."
WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner shares an oft-rumored sentiment that Urijah Faber still gets the royal treatment from the promotion despite no longer carrying the featherweight torch. "C-4" hasn't been able to detonate since sustaining injuries in his title defense against Donald Cerrone at WEC 38 in January 2009. He'll get a chance to prove he's still king of the 155-pound mountain when he locks horns with rising star Benson Henderson at WEC 46 this Sunday (Jan. 10) on Versus. Does the champ still have the goods? Or will we enter the "Smooth" era?

Jamie Varner: "BJ Penn is the ultimate test for me", "WEC should be called the Urijah Faber show"
Bryan Levick put together this great interview!
The WEC's Lightweight Champion has been in the limelight since defeating Cerrone about a year ago. The often quick and reserve champion had some very interesting things to say about BJ Penn, Ben Henderson, and of course the Donald Cerrone rivalry.
Cerrone called him a chicken...(well, sort of)
Bryan Levick: Cerrone spoke of an incident that he said took place at UFC 101 in which he confronted you and you backed down from him. Is there any truth to that?
Jamie Varner: He is so full of s**t, I’ve heard that story too. Supposedly we were in the back in some room, it was me, Cerrone and Leonard Garcia. That never happened, he is just trying to stir up more s**t. He’s such a hillbilly, I don’t even know what else to say! To be honest with you he doesn’t deserve the attention that he is getting.
Cerrone is an easier fight than Henderson
Jamie Varner: Cerrone is an easier fight, don’t get me wrong they are both tough fighters, but they are tough in different ways. They are polar opposites. When I’m fighting Cerrone I know the fight is going to take place standing, I don’t have to worry about him shooting in for a takedown. As far as Henderson is concerned, he is constantly looking for the takedown, so I have to look out for that at all times. It’s easier not having to worry about someone shooting in and having a stand-up war. When I am in there with Cerrone I can dictate where the fight goes.
Renaming the WEC to the Urijah Faber show...
Bryan Levick: You have been very vocal about the WEC’s constant push of Urijah Faber and how they don’t get behind any of the other fighters the way they do Faber. Are there any instances in particular of the WEC giving Faber more opportunities than they do other fighters:
Jamie Varner: It should be called The Urijah Faber show instead of World Extreme Cagefighting. Lo and behold Faber got the deal.
BJ and the UFC
Bryan Levick: How do you stack up against the lightweights in the UFC?
Jamie Varner: I’d say I am top three or four. There’s some tough fights for me there. BJ Penn is ultimately the toughest fight for me. I’d say another tough fight for me would be with Grey Maynard. He’s such a strong wrestler, I’ve been the dominant wrestler in all of my fights, Henderson will be the first fighter that I have faced that is as good a wrestler as I am. I’d have really good fights with Kenny Florian, Diego Sanchez and Joe Stevenson. I think I match up really well with them. Frankie Edgar is a good fighter but he should be fighting at 145lbs, I am bigger and more athletic than him.

Pat White Health Update
Today's hit on Pat White was down right scary. The helmet-to-helmet hit left White motionless on the ground. PFT just posted a piece with some good news. I am still not sure why it wasn't a flag..
During Sunday's loss to the Steelers, rookie quarterback Pat White got his first taste of the NFL in something other than a cameo appearance, after starter Chad Henne left with an injury.
After only three drives, however, White exited the field on a stretcher, after absorbing a helmet-to-helmet hit from cornerback Ike Taylor.
Per a league source, White suffered a concussion. He lost consciousness "for several seconds," but White is now doing "better."
White has the entire offseason to recuperate; the 30-24 loss knocked Miami out of the playoffs.
I am pretty sure the last comment about the playoffs is nothing more than a Patriot fan getting in his last jab. This is good news! It was scary, and I am glad he is okay.
Gilbert Yvel vs. Junior Dos Santos Preview and Prediction
The full story is here...
The UFC limps into Vegas this weekend for what is supposed to be their best show of the year. Instead the injury bug has cut it down to a mediocre one at best. That being said, it should still be a good night fights with some great highlight reel action. Making the final roster is Rashad Evans, Thiago Silva, Dustin Hazelett, and many more. To kick off my UFC 108 preview and predictions I start with Junior Dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel.
Junior Dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel:
UFC 108 is the UFC introduction of a Hurricane, That man is Gilbert Yvel. The old school Pride fighter is finally making his UFC debut thanks to the bad luck of the T-shirt guys (Affliction). If you are a new school fan then you will be greatly pleased with Yvel. He is 36-13-1 with wins over Pedro Rizzo, Gary Goodridge, Cheick Kongo, and a guy named Big Mo T. He has lost to Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort, Fujita, Don Frye, Jeremy Horn, and Josh Barnett.
Yvel is a very interesting fighter that will earn tons of fans with each fight he has in the UFC. His highlight reel KO of Gary Goodridge is still one of the most impressive MMA stoppages of all time. His use of his knees and ability to stop the take down will also make the fans stand and cheer.
If you are an old school Pride type then you remember that this is the guy that was a part of a gruesome no contest fight against Wanderlei Silva due to some unfortunate groin kicks.
Yvel may not have defeated any of the MMA A listers, but he has at least been good enough to earn fights with them. Unfortunately for him, the UFC’s heavyweight division is turning into a size battle as much of a skill one. If he is going to be competitive he will either have to get on the Frank Mir diet or cut to 205.
Welcoming the heavy handed Yvel is Junior Dos Santos. While Junior is a big ol’ boy, he is not the size of Lesnar. He will be a very good test for Yvel. Junior is undefeated in the UFC and has done nothing but increase his stock since joining MMA’s elite organization.
When Joe Silva put this fight together he had fireworks in mind. Both of these guy will be looking to put the other to sleep with their fists. From the starting bell, this one will be nothing but action. In my sleeper pick for fight of the night, don’t blink.
Prediction: Gilbert welcome to the UFC. With that comes lights, fame, better sponsors, more money, more nerves, more cheers…You get my point. While Yvel has fought on the big stage plenty of times, the UFC has a weird affect on the this type of fighter. While Junior has been in the UFC for three fights, he hasn’t had the hardest fights of the division. At this point he is a gatekeeper that is steadily working his way up. A win here would be huge.
Either fighter can win this one, and I expect the final betting line to be pretty close. Although Yvel’s last loss was to Josh Barnett, I would say that his level of competition hasn’t been as tough as Dos Santos’. I feel that Junior will be more prepared and be able to out last the UFC newcomer.
Nerves have a funny affect on the body, and I have a funny feeling that the longer this fight goes, the stronger Junior will get. Junior has never been knocked out in his career, and I don’t think this will be his first.
Junior Dos Santos by late TKO
Is Mike Swick in a lose-lose situation against Paulo Thiago?
I posted this over at my blog but wanted to share with you guys, and hear your thoughts...
Here is the post...
If you haven't heard, Kos is out of his UFC 109 fight with Paulo Thiago due to an undisclosed injury. His fearless buddy Mike Swick is stepping up to take his place. While tons of analysts are saying how great a move this is, I don't see it that way. This fight is a very dangerous one for Swick, and another loss could take him from the land of contender to cellar of pretender.

Think back to the Dan Hardy vs. Mike Swick fight. It was set to determine who would take on the superman of the division in GSP. In other words, Mike Swick was two wins away from being crowned champion and enshrined in history as another TUF 1 vet who made the journey to become champion.
Instead he fought an inspired Dan Hardy and lost a very one sided unanimous decision. I am sure he is still feeling the hangover of a loss, but is Thiago the right rebound fight?
Since stepping into the UFC, Paulo Thiago has only lost one fight and that was to long time top contender Jon Fitch. He also own wins over injuree Josh Koscheck and Jacob Volkmann. Prior to his UFC contract he won an impressive ten fights in a row, even more impressive is the fact that he finished every single one of them!
Swick has been fighting much better competition over the past few years, but Thiago is dangerous. Although Swick has never been defeated by submission (in his career), Paulo's submission game is nasty!
I am not saying the old everyone can beat everyone bit, but what I am saying is that this is an unnecessary risk for Swick. Odds are, he jumped at the chance to step in for Kos. Why not wait for Joe Silva to call and offer your next fight?
I get that AKA feels that they should protect each other, and that they are a tight knit group, they should be, but in my opinion the decision to take this fight is a bad one for Swick. It is almost a lose-lose situation. If he wins, he beat a fighter that would then be 2-2 in the UFC, not a big deal for someone who was a fight away from a shot at the title. If he suffers a loss, it hurts...BAD! It slides him farther away from a title shot, and possible puts him in a position where he may never climb back to the top of the heap.
This is not a fight breakdown or pick, I am just saying that this is a very dangerous fight, and one that holds more weight for Swick than many...
Week 16: Perfections, Predictions, and Playoffs
There are two weeks left in the NFL season. It has been a great on, and we are amidst a sprint to the finish. Week 16 is going to break some hearts, make some dreams come true, and make many more cry. There are several huge stories around the league, I feel inclined to give my thoughts.
As a Fins fan, this season has been one full of ups and downs. The largest up could be the rise of the future (Chad Henne). The farthest fall has to be the implosion of top ten draft pick Ted Ginn Jr. The playoffs are not out of reach, but the team does need some help. Matty broke down the playoff scenario in detail here.
While prepping for today's action, I put together my thoughts on the NFL week as a whole including my take on predictions, perfection, and the playoffs.
Perfection: While I don’t feel the 72 Fins are the best team ever, thanks to a Super Bowl loss, they are STILL the only team to ever win out. That being said, I am a huge Peyton Manning fan. I feel that when he hangs up his cleats he will be known as the greatest ever. I would give anything to have that guy in South Beach! If anyone goes undefeated I would be ok if was this guy.
I would not be surprised if the Colts pushed for history and tried to go undefeated. While Manning is great, their D is what will help them win or cause them to lose. Manning is good for three scores a game, throw in a few field goals, that is roughly 27 points.
If they can’t keep their opponents under this mark, then they are in trouble. They finish off the year against the Jets and Bills. The worst teams in the AFC East, and ones that should not give the Indianapolis Mannings any trouble.
Playoffs: The playoffs are right around the corner. Teams such as the Dolphins, Cowboys, Ravens, and Giants are all dreaming of the post season but they all won’t be around in three weeks. This is what makes or breaks seasons.
This is the make up for some great games today! Pay close attention to the winners and losers this week. The Cowboys and Fins could be on the outside looking in if they lose this week.
Picks: Here are my picks this week. I am going head to head, not looking at gambling lines, that is for David .
Bills vs. Falcons:
This game is going to be a lot close than a lot of fans think. Neither of these teams will be playing in the postseason, and the Bills have looked solid at times in the past few weeks. I would not be surprised if the Bills stole one here in the Georgia Dome.
Cincy is still playing with heavy hearts. As long as they don’t have a dump of emotion they should win this one easily as they make a push for the playoffs. The Chiefs now understand that they did not get the next Tom Brady from New England, but are making improvements and will not be terrible forever. Unlike the Raiders.
Raiders vs. Browns:
Two of the worst teams in the NFL… This one l be fun for fans of both teams, but I expect the Browns to get it done at home. How is it that Urban Meyer has chest pains when he is winning, but Al Davis is healthy? The Browns will have D. Anderson behind center, and he will be slinging it all around. Don't expect a perfect day, but don't be surprised if he connects on a big play or two that is the difference in this game.
The Pack have to win. Brett Favre is not coming back, but their QB is not too shabby. Rodgers needs to stop getting hit, and when they get it figured out this team will be tough. If they make the playoffs they can beat anyone. That being said their O line issues also make them vulnerable to a devastating loss, for example to the Seahawks. Watch out, I am picking the hawks. A loss for Green bay really hurts their chance to make the playoffs. People will be very upset in cheese head country if they have to sit and watch a Brett Favre led team play in the post season.
Texans vs. Dolphins:
The Dolphins have never beat the Texans. Never-ever. If they are going to make a postseason push they have to win out and need help! They have had trouble closing out games and have had the leagues best on their heels. I see the Fins winning this one behind their defense, in a very slow time of possession game. Watch out for Henne to have another solid day. He is improving before our eyes, and the rushing game has stayed solid even with the key injury to Ronnie Brown. The Fins will pressure Schaub and force him to make a few very bad decision resulting in a Dolphin win.
Jags vs. Pats:
The Pats are a dangerous team. They have Mr. Brady at the helm, and when he is on they are unbeatable. Luckily for the rest of the league, their D is old. I don’t think the Jags can score enough to stay in this game, I expect this Pats to win this one by double digits.
Buccs vs. Saints:
The Saints have their blemish, now they can get back to destroying teams. The Buccs are bad…This one wont be close.
Panthers vs. Giants:
Have the Giants got things figured out? Maybe, but the Cardiac Cats will be ready. This one could be the closest game of the week. This one will make Cowboy fans smile, the Panthers will win this one behind their running game.
Ravens vs. Steelers:
The Steelers are still playing without their Madden Curse laden Troy P. That being said, their D is now average. Big Ben will be a gunslinger and lead this team to another key win. Is picking the Steelers over the Ravens truly an upset? This year it sure is.
Watch out for a breakout game from A. Boldin. This one won’t be close as the Cards pass their way to victory.
Lions vs. Niners:
Niners behind their D
Jets vs. Colts:
Colts with Manning sitting in the second half. The Jets will pressure early, but if I knows that so do the Colts. The Jets will look to blitz the weakside backers, leaving one on one coverage for Reggie Wayne. That spells trouble. Once they stop blitzing because they are getting burned, Peyton will stand back and pick them a part.
Eagles behind a huge 400 yard passing day of Mcnabb.
Cowboys vs. Redskins:
Everyone is pointing out that the Boys won last week against an undefeated team. They are also saying that this is a very losable game for them… The Skins can’t score. Win for the Boys.
That is it. My week 16 picks. I want to hear your thougths!
Chris Horodecki: Loss of focus leads to loss of consciousness
I was checking out the WEC fights from Sat and came across them gem of a GIF. I think it is safe to say that Chris Horodecki will never ever make this mistake again. Turning his back was a bold move...It did not work out in his favor one bit!
His loss of focus truly led to him losing consciousness!
In the debut of Chris Horodecki in the WEC, he did just that. He casually walked away from his opponent, resulting in him counting tweety birds!

Is MMA contributing to underground fight clubs?
So today while at work someone told me that MMA and the UFC is the reason for underground fight clubs. I was shocked initially but after some thinking and their arguments I wondered to myself just how much influence it has.
HERE is the link for my full post
Here are some of the thoughts on the post. I am also looking forward to hearing your comments. I need ammo for the next time I see this person.
I challenge you to go to your local mall and count how many Tapout, Affliction, or UFC shirts you see. The results may surprise you. The sport of MMA has stepped up and has surpassed many American sports in terms of popularity. Some would argue that it has already overthrown baseball, hockey, and soccer here in the States.
One of the most popular movies in recent time was a classic that had a cult like following. One that featured an underground fight club. Interestingly enough, the movie was titles as such (Fight Club, if your slow). While at work today, someone told me “MMA is the reason for the stupid teen fight clubs”. I was shocked to hear this, which led to this post.
The MMA movement for guys is the equal to the MTV TRL movement for young teenage girls. Everyone thinks they are a cagefighter. Go to the bar at night. You will see ten or more self proclaimed Chuck Liddells that are looking for a fight (usually drunk, with no girl, and pissed off at the world). Some of this is bad decision making, a lack of intelligence, and bad self esteem (look at me acting like Dr. Phil). However, I also feel that part of it is that they see the UFC, Strikeforce, DREAM, and the other organizations, only to assume that they are just as tough.
While I know that MMA is NOT the reason for underground fight clubs, I can't say that it isn't influencing it. Help me out, I need ammo!!!!!
Mir mentally not ready, Diego is...My UFC 107 Preview and Predictions
Prodigy. One word defined as having extraordinary talent at a young age. In a MMA dictionary it refers to one incredible fighter that has made a living out of submitting top talent time and time again. Tonight Penn will lay his title on the line against Diego Sanchez, arguably his toughest test at 155 to date. Strap on tight, here is the preview and predictions for UFC 107.
Here is the link for the full preview and prediction
The Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA could use someone like Struve. His hight would be a great addition to one of the worst teams in the league…Unfortunately he is stepping into the cage and not onto the hardwood! Tonight he will be taking on a tough opponent in Paul Buentello. This is his UFC return. He last fought in the cage in 2006 and has a record of 3-4 in the UFC.
Prediction: Struve is improving with every day, his height is nothing more than an incredible took at his disposal. If he uses his length in this one, he could be in for a great night. Combine that with the nerves and emotion of making a return to the UFC after 3 years… Things are looking up for Struve. The tree will not be chopped on this night.
Struve by TKO
Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida:
The most exciting fighter in the UFC (outside of the cage) is Clay Guida. His entrance gets you pumped! He always has a smile and has a never ending flow of energy. The operative statement… Outside of the cage. If you could take his heart and determination and put it into a hand full of other fighters, they would be the greatest of all time! Unfortunately Clay’s skill set does not equal the competitive level at which he is fighting.
Kenny Florian was supposed to be the guy to finally challenge Baby J. Not so much! His loss to Penn was lost in the Anderson Silva demolition of Forrest Griffin. Ken-Flo is still one of the best in the division, but Penn is on top of this mountain (more later).
Prediction: I love Clay Guida. He is everything that the hardcore MMA fan loves, but like I said earlier… He just can’t fight with the likes of Penn, Florian, Sanchez or whatever you consider to be the top 3 in this division. This is going to be exciting, but Kenny will take it.
Florian by unanimous decision.
Jon Fitch vs. Mike Pierce:
Jon Fitch is back. His name became household when he stepped up against the Canadian Superstar GSP. He wasn’t able to pull off the stunning upset, but he is still one of the best fighters in the world. Don’t believe me? His 10-1 record in the UFC agrees with me. He has won two in a row and another win will get him back into title contention.
Pierce on the other hand is the relative unknown underdog. His latest win against Brock Larson got Larson the UFC boot and earned him a huge shot at a true contender. Let’s be honest a win by Pierce is as likely as Tim Tebow winning this year’s Heisman (and he wont).
Prediction: Do you own a trampoline? Pierce is going to be Fight’s. A highlight win here gets Jon back into title contention and a possible shot at Matt Hughes in the spring.
Fitch by TKO (Highlight reel)

Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo:
Have you ever wanted something so bad that it takes control of your life? Putting yourself in a sense of tunnel vision until you get it? We very well could be seeing this with Frank Mir! All you hear from the heavyweight contender is Brock Lesnar this and Lesnar that. He may get a rubber match with the champ in 2010, but only if he can win fights like this. This is a very dangerous fight for what could be an unfocused Frank Mir.
Kongo is a beast. One of those that you would cross the street before passing on the sidewalk. This is a huge fight for him! The door is beyond wide open for him to take advantage of Mir. A lot of people may not agree with me, but this is a very winnable fight for Kongo. Two reasons…One you already know (Mir’s mental game). The second is that Mir may have an unwarranted faith in his hands after he picked a part Nog. Standing with Kongo could be bad for Frank. If he does he may never get the chance to fight Brock Lasnar because he will be going down the mountain instead of up it.
Prediction: If this one goes to the ground then it is good night for Kongo. Mir has top level jits and would take advantage of any limb left loos. That being said, Mir has been training every minute of everyday for Brock Lesnar. He is fighting Kongo, and one kick to the face could equal nighty night.
Kongo by TKO
B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez:
This could be the toughest competition that Penn has faced in the 155 pound division. Since his loss to Matt Hughes in 2006 Penn has been on a tear. Losing only to GSP in a bout not in this weight class. He has defeated the likes of Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver, and Joe Stevenson in one of the most dominating championship runs in the history of the UFC. Every one of those fighters could have gave Penn fits, but he has been nothing but untouchable in this division. I will put it this way. I am not a Penn fan at all, but if there was no Anderson, Fedor, or GSP, Penn would be the hands down favorite for the P4P best fighter in the world.
Diego Sanchez has been around the block for awhile now. A member of the original TUF class, he has only lost twice in the past four years. Those losses were against Koscheck and John Fitch. Take AKA out of the mix, then he is undefeated… Diego’s transition to the Ribero camp could prove to be the difference in this one. Arguably the best jits camp in the word, they may have an answer for Penn’s viscous ground game.
I have picked against Penn in his last four fights at 55. I have been 0-4 in those predictions. The Prodigy is truly one of the greatest fighters ever, but I still can’t call him a favorite. He has always been portrayed as the guy who didn’t train properly, had terrible cardio, and could be great but isn’t… Penn may have turned that corner. He has been all but unbeatable at 155 and a win here puts him in rare-ified air among the best ever.
Prediction: Like I said, I have picked against Penn until I am blue in the face. I want Diego to win, but I am going to pick against him. I feel that Penn’s jab could keep him on his heels, and that is noth the place he wants to be. This fight will hit the ground, and when it does we will see just how good Diego is. This could be a closer fight than a lot expect, but Penn should be able to get the victory, Diego will get excited and make a mistake, resulting in a Penn submission.
Penn by submission.
A look at the Dolphins upcoming playoff run.
The Miami Dolphins kept their season and postseason hopes alive with an incredible win against New England last weekend. The Fins are now only one game back for the division lead, and suddenly have a real shot to make the playoffs. Hanging right with the Fins is the Jets, but the Dolphins own the tiebreaker.
Here is the remaining schedules of the threats to win the AFC East...
Miami:
Dec 13 - Jax Jags
This is the day that could tie these two teams. Miami will take on a team that is known for being inconsistent. If the not-so-good Jags show up, then this could be a fairly easy win. On the other hand, if the very good Jags show up, the tears could flow. I see Miami using their D, pressuring the QB, and running all day. This will get them a tough win in Northern Florida.
Dec 20 - TN Titans
The Tennessee V-Youngs are still one of the hottest teams in the league, but are they really that good? The Fins can shut down Chris Johnson, and VY. This is a very winnable game...unless Johnson turns this into a track meet...
Dec 27 - Houston Texans
The Texans seem to be the home of the injury bug. I see this as the easiest game on the Fins' remaining schedule.
Jan 3 - Pittsburg Steelers
This game has playoff implications all over it! The Fins may NEED a win to get in, the same for the Steelers. If the Steelers aren't in the playoff hunt, I expect them to roll over in a sense which would be great for the Fins.
New England:
Dec 13 - Carolina Panthers
The Pats are pissed, and possibly on the edge of imploding! The great veterans of the northeast are now just old guys that can't run, cut, or tackle. It is killing them. This is going to be a much closer game than many believe. The Cats are going to run all day, and unless Tom has a...well...Tom Brady like day...then they will lose.
Dec 20 - Buff Bills
Lets face it, the Bills are terrible....Don't expect an upset here...The Bills already stole their one win of the year from the AFC East...This wont be close.
Dec 27 - Jax Jags
The Roulette Wheel of the league is back again, this time trying to stop New England. Be careful in this one, it has a trap game sort of feel. This will be a must win game, and if the Jags are ready to play, they could steal one.
Jan 3 - Houston Texans
This is for all of the marbles. A win here more than likely solidifies the division title, a loss opens the door for a miraculous Miami season...GO TEXANS, the Fins will need you to win this game.
Jets:
Dec 13 - Tampa Bay Buccs
Sanchez not playing could be a blessing in disguise...Could be a close game, but one the Jets should win.
Dec 20 - Atlanta Falcons
Dec 27 - Indy Colts
Jan 3 - Cincy Bengals
All three of the final games for the Jets are very tough. Their D can't stop Peyton Manning, or the running games of the Bengals or Falcons...The Jets aren't going to be in the run for the postseason, because they are not going to win enough of these games.
Making the playoffs is not going to be an easy road by any stretch of the imagination. Both the Pats and Fins have arguably the same type of schedule. Both could finish 4-0, or could go 0-4. It is going to be a great finish to the year. I am rooting for the Pats to implode and open the door for a second straight division title!
Go Fins!
I hope you guys like this, I usually post at my blog but figured I would share this here.
Shane Carwin wants to fight Fedor, not ready to coach TUF
That is right. Shane Carwin wants to fight or train with Fedor!
HERE IS THE LINK AND COMPLETE INTERVIEW
About Fedor...
BL: If you could fight any one fighter past or present who would it be?
SC: I’d love to fight or train with Fedor. I have a ton of respect for him as a fighter and a man.
Future up and comer....
BL: Are there any young fighters that you are training with that we should look out for?
SC: Brendan Schaub, I suspect he will become an elite Heavyweight in the next few years.
Wanna coach TUF?
BL: How do you feel about the heavyweights that came off of this year’s Ultimate Fighter?
SC: They need to get that cardio up for sure. Guys like Cain Velasquez have unlimited gas tanks and you do not want to gas against the UFC’s elite heavyweights. I think some of those guys are going to be a force in the division and I look forward to seeing them rise to the top.
BL: How would you feel about an opportunity to coach on the show?
SC: I really enjoy my family too much to be away from them. If it was summer and I could bring them with me I might consider it. I am a guy in need of coaching, I am still learning and evolving into the fighter I want to become. I can think of a lot better choices than me to teach the future fighters.
Again, here is the full interview

TUF Finale Preview and Prediction
Tonight is something we have all been waiting for: the conclusion of this season of TUF, the end of the Kimbo weekly drama (catch the show this week to see Kimbo's return), and the constant bickering between Rampage and Rashad.
While, we are hoping the fights will be better tonight, we at least get more real UFC fighters on the card, and less TUF types.
Here are a few clips and my thoughts...
Marcus “Big Baby/ The Darkness” Jones vs. Matt “Meat Head” Mitrione
This will be the first bout of the TV card and one that many want to see. Meat Head aggravated people all season and most will be rooting against him in this fight. Davis became the favorite of the show as his size, strength, and huge teddy bear appeal warmed the hearts of his viewers (and plants).
Prediction: Both of these guys are very green, Meat Head could very well KO Jones. Both are former football players, and at some point this one will go to the ground, when it does Jones will dominate.
Jones by submission
Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexander:
TUF 10 will forever be known as the season of Kimbo. Believe it or not, a lot of the hardcore MMA fans started coming around and rooting for Kimbo, but the constant pressure of Kimbo down your throat, and him not stepping up to fight changed most of their minds. Houston on the other hand is the UFC’s version of Kimbo…No ground game, hated on by many… This could actually be a decent fight.
Prediction:
Kimbo has never fought anyone that can bang like Houston. When Kimbo denied the chance to fight for the contract it made me question his motives. If he doesn’t want this, and is pressured by Alexander, then he may fold. That is what I expect! Houston by TKO! If Houston does not win, expect the UFC to hand him his walking papers.
The rest of my predictions can be found right here.

Funniest Tiger Drama Picture around!
You have to admit, even thought the Tiger Show has been all over the news, this picture is pretty funny.
My Stance:
Tiger Woods is one of the most influential people to ever pick up a golf club. The things he has done not only for his sport, Stanford, and people around the world are incredible in themselves. People often forget that Tiger is an athlete. His occupation in life is to hit a ball in a cup.
Yes he should be held to a specific standard, but until you understand his position we can't hate on him. We have no clue what was going on behind closed doors with his wife and family. For all we know, they could have been heading toward a divorce.
At the same time he could have been cheating the whole time... At the end of the day it is his business and once he wins that next major we will forget all about this...
Just ask Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, Alex Rodriguez, and all of the other super stars that have done wrong and lived to move past their errors.
Fins need Saints win, Heres three reasons why they will
After the disappointing loss to the Bills, the playoff picture for the Fins seems to be a bit darker than many fans would like. Tonight the division leading Pats will take on the high flying Saints.
As a Fins fan I know that this game is huge! If the Pats win here, it will all but knock the Dolphins out of the playoff picture.
On my personal blog I broke down three reasons why the Pats will lose this game.
Not spamming, I pasted the post below. Feel free to check out my blog, but the post in its entirety is below.
GO FINS!
Tonight is arguably the biggest football game to date.
The New England Patriots are amidst a playoff run, and the Saints are having their best season in history. The game has true meaning and playoff implications, and will indeed be a great game!
I usually don’t do this but I am going to give it a go.
Pick the Saints for a victory tonight.
Reason #1
The game is being played at the Super Dome. Once the place of pain and suffering with the disaster that was Hurricane Katrina is now a place for celebration and smiles. The Saints are undefeated this season and have played great at home. This is the their biggest game of the year and the crowd will be loud! The Pats have only won one game on the road this season and that was against a dismal Tampa Bay Buccs. Home field advantage is important and will be the main reason the Saints will be victorious.
Reason #2
D! Enough said! You have heard it time and time again, defense wins championships. The Saints have been playing great on both sides of the ball the entire year, and is the main reason they are undefeated. They are hungry and are seeing the field very well. The key will be the secondaries tonight. Frankly put, New England’s isn’t very good. That will play into the hands of Drew Brees and cost Mr. Brady the game.
Reason #3
Brett Farve…You are probably scratching your head and wondering how Brett Farve could have any affect on this game at all. Well, the old man has stepped up his already Hall of Fame career as he is leading the one loss Vikings like never before. If the Saints want to have home field advantage they need a win. They know they play better at home, and know this win would be key as they push toward the postseason.
There are three solid reasons why the Pats will lose tonight! It is also possible that the coaching decisions against the Colts will have an affect at some point later this year. If this is a close game, with Brady driving, watch how the O is called. It is a matter of time before Coach B has to make another decision…
I expect a great game tonight! It will be one with a lot of action and possibly an instant classic.
Happy Turkey Day. Dave Kaplan Vid
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have a great day with family and friends (if possible).
This morning I was going through old video clips and wanted to post something that would be some what related to the Thanksgiving holiday.
What I found is pretty funny. It is an oldie but goodie of Dave Kaplan. At this point many of you already know what vid this is!
In it, Dave Kaplan is very thankful for his amazing iron chin. One that is untouchable! He can not be knocked out!...RIGHT, heard that one before...MICHAEL BISPING...
I also posted this vid up at my website located here.
Dan Gable and MMA
This is the ultimate MMA what if question. Wrestlers have done their share of dominating the MMA world. What would have happened if the greatest wrestler of all time competed in MMA?
HERE is a link of the post written by Robert. He shares some great points! This is a very good read.
It is often said that one of the best bases to have as a mixed martial artist is wresting. Wrestling, in all of its forms, is a sport that is all about leverage and control.
Many fighters who have come from a strong wrestling background have found great success. Just look across the MMA landscape today as it is littered with champion wrestlers making the transition to the sport.
The reason wrestlers have excelled in MMA is not due solely to wrestling itself. Wrestlers are successful because of the drive, determination, and work ethic that they bring with them.
If there is one man who epitomizes wrestling, drive, determination, and work ethic it is Dan Gable.
Impressive....
While attending college and after his collegiate career Gable competed in the Olympic wrestling style of freestyle. Gable was a six-time midlands champion and a three-time USA Freestyle National Champion. In 1971 Gable become World Champion, winning the 68kg division in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In 1972, when the Olympics invaded Munich, the goal was simple; bring home the gold. During these historic Olympics Gable would not only win the gold but he did so without surrendering a single point to his opposition.
What if....
It is not difficult to imagine that had MMA been an avenue available to the Olympic champion it would have been something to consider. For many college wrestlers MMA has become the most suitable path to choose when following the dream of professional athletics.
Gable could have been a force inside the octagon, and would have likely competed at lightweight. The lightweight division has truly become a fan favorite with the incredible pace that the athletes are able to fight at. Gable would have surly been at home in that atmosphere.
With an unstoppable shot and flawless transitions Dan Gable would have ruled the lightweight land. The ability that he possessed to throw and control another human was unreal.
We will never know if Gable could learn to strike, or if he could even take a punch, but we do know that he could wrestle. With his caliber of wrestling, and his work ethic he would have become a champion.
What if: Dan Gable would have been a fighter?

What if Kimbo beats Houston Alexander?
That is the question that I have been asked by everyone I work with today. Many are your typical fan that think Kimbo is terrible, but some are die hard Kimbo lovers.
What do you guys think? IF and it is still a big if, he does win...what would be next? Would he get another stand up fighter with no ground game? Would he ever be able to string together a few wins against legit competition? lol I don't think so either...
We all can anticipate Kimbo getting a UFC contract. Dana and the UFC crew are not going to turn their back on someone that can bring in millions of extra dollars to the organization. So what if he can’t fight, they give him a four fight deal…Millions of dollars. Kimbo will also be bringing in a new set of fans that just want to see him fight. Pair him with a UFC 101 Anderson Silva type of performance and they will be hooked.
The idea that Kimbo will ever be a UFC force is nothing more than a bedtime story. He doesn’t have the skills, the fighters are quickly getting better, and age is not on his side.
That being said, what if he beats Houston Alexander? Many already question Houston’s role in the UFC. We know that his jits game is…non-existent…and all he has is his stand up game.
That does make for an interesting match up of two guys that are going to bang. Houston could be the best stand up fighter Kimbo has faced but if he can weather the initial storm he has a real shot to beat him.
If that happens I would argue that Kimbo won the battle. Dana challenged him and he won.
I foresee (and I am no Ms. Cleo) that a win gets him a UFC contract. The most Kimbo could truly ever really ask for is to be a UFC gatekeeper. At 205 or heavyweight he would be considered an underdog against about everyone. It is fair to say that this fight is his Superbowl.
A loss equals nothing more than the old college try. He goes to Strikeforce, fights on regular TV, and rides off slowly into the sunset.
TUF 10's Darrill Schoonover recalled to active duty
Props: CurtisandKyle.com (via MMA FanHouse)
Quoteworthy:
"At first I was kind of pissed ... I was like, ‘I’ve already served my country for four years and been out for almost two years.’ I’m getting my fighting started and getting the ball rolling on that. I was kind of mad, but the very next day, I just accepted it. I’ll do what I gotta do, and then I’ll come back and work on my fighting."
Bittersweet. It is defined as defined (Dictionary.com) as "producing or expressing a mixture of pain and pleasure." That is the easiest way to describe Darrill Schoonover’s -- also affectionately referred to as "Titties" by opposing coach Quinton "Rampage" Jackson on the show -- feelings after he was recently recalled into the Army. He talked to Shambala Sports Radio and talked about the move. It is understood that he will be required to complete a stint of 400 days. Not all of which will be deployed, but he is anticipating that he is heading to Afghanistan for some if not most of that time. Luckily, Schoonover will be able to fight at the TUF 10 Finale if he makes it to the championship round of the 16-man tournament. He will head to the Army shortly after.
Boxing double knock down
I will be honest, I don't post a a lot on here, but I couldn't pass this one up!
I don't know how often it happens, but at the link, the two boxers somehow time each other perfectly and knock each other down. It is pretty funny.
If this happened and both fighters were knocked out, who would be determined the winner? Would it be considered a no contest or draw? If you guys have similar videos post the link and I will send them to the site!
