Addicted To Quack Asheville, NC: Raise up!

I have the privilege of being in lovely Asheville, NC (honestly i heard its great) for the dates of October 13th - 23rd for work.  More importantly, our Fightin' Chip Kelly's will be playing Arizona State University and the University of Colorado on those Saturdays.

Any of our North Carolina friends have any recommendations have any good spots in Asheville or should i plan on heading to Charlotte and/or Knoxville?

If I pick your spot and you happen to be there, I will buy you a beer for every touchdown we score.  I will buy myself shots for every touchdown we give up.

P.S. - I'm 32, single and don't own any beltbuckles.

"Should Oklahoma act upon its earnest desires and seek an invitation to join the Pacific-12 Conference — something I'm fully expecting to happen within days, if not hours — that decision could well be the killing blow to the Big 12 while also providing Texas the political cover to follow suit and ask for admission as well."

First one to get a pic of them wins a prize:

Despite their embarrassement of riches in terms of uniforms already, we will see Oregon Ducks Pro Combat uniforms this season, specifically in their season opener against LSU.

While watching the Nike: The Opening 'recruiting event' this weekend on the Nike Campus aka The Holy Ground, i noticed the new marketing slogan:

Take Every Advantage. Make Every Advantage.

I'm guessing Uncle Phil has a sense of humor.

also, if you find pics of the winning 7on7 team, they are wearing the exact practice gear that we broke out for the BCS game.

Addicted To Quack Think Softy is a gas bag? so does Dan LeBatard...

In my quest to turn as many sports fans onto Dan LeBatard's (PTI part time host and columnist for the Miami Herald) radio show, I present my final case:

Whom ever was in charge of creating/maintaining www.oregongridiron.com should get a raise. i always look forward to their recruiting round-up. this just got post yesterday and haven't seen it referenced yet.

Is it strange that i'm already anxiously looking forward to National Signing Day 2012??

Landen Lucas of Findlay Prep (Las Vegas, NV) is one of the top power forwards on the west coast in the class of 2012, and on Saturday he was at the Oregon-Washington game in Eugene.

Lucas, a Portland, Oreg. native, has taken several trips to Eugene and the Ducks appear to be in the driver's seat for the junior big man, even with the news last month that Duke had entered the picture.

The 6-foot-8 bruiser is also getting interest from Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, Georgetown, USC, UCLA and Vanderbilt.

Yes. Findley Prep is a Nike school and i wanted to hire their head coach instead of Dana Altman. I apologize to Mr. Altman and his family.

Doug Gottlieb's weekly take includes some love for Dana Altman:

(5) Oregon, Oklahoma coaches deserve your respect

There are some coaches who are coach-of-the-year-worthy despite not being in the running for the COY award. Dana Altman and Jeff Capel are probably the two most likely candidates for such an honor.

Altman, in his first season in the Pac-10, has clearly established his coaching credibility by not losing his team after starting out 0-4 in league play. After dismantling Wazzu 69-43, the Ducks have climbed back by winning four of six, including a win over in-state rival Oregon State in Corvallis.

As Feb 2nd quickly approaches (yes i have that day off and yes i'm annoyed CK won't be announcing the signers till 3pm), here are some quick reminders on how to act like an adult. via Bruce Feldman and solidverbal.com

My favorites include:

2. When viewing or, if you must, contributing to a recruiting message board discussion with other people in the room, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to have another window or tab open of something that’s potentially less nerdy.

4. Of the guys your team will get verbal commitments from, some will change their minds, some won’t get in, some will get in trouble with the law, and almost all of them won’t meet the crazy expectations bestowed upon them by the "insiders" and "experts."

7. For the most part, if a coach wins much more often than he loses and consistently gets to bowls on or after New Years, it doesn’t matter where his team finishes in the recruiting rankings. The process is fun, but if you’re just as happy out-recruiting your rival as you are blowing them out in November, recalibrate your settings.

seriously, if they don't sell a #13 jersey next year, i'm making my own.

what comes first - cool songs about the Ducks or better recruits?

My favorite new Blazer Luke Babbitt on his recent stint in the D League for the Idaho Stampede:

"I didn't either my first time," he said. "But I went down and saw that it wasn't that bad. I kind of wouldn't mind going back. I mean, I don't want to live down there -- not to mention that (the Stampede is in) Boise, which we don't like."

Babbitt chuckled and was asked if he was booed when he played in Boise."

i'm pretty sure we're the underdogs but, at least, the sidelines will be in good spirits.
