Titans Fan living in NJ. Started rooting for Oilers/Titans when i was 10 and got an Oilers mug for Christmas one year. They were the 2nd best team in the NFL in those days w/ Earl Campbell, Dan Pastorini, Elvin Bethea, etc. Unfort we played in the same division as the hated Steelers, who were in the midst of their Steel Curtain Dynasty :( stayed w/ them when they moved to Tennessee and thought i was going to suffer heartbreak at the hands of the Bills (again) when one of the most amazing plays in franchise (and NFL) history occurred - Neal To Wycheck to Dyson. TOUCHDOWN!!!

interesting ESPN (insider) article via Bleacher Report about why Cam Newton will be a good NFL QB. Considering the amount of successful QBs passing from shotgun, perhaps it's not that big a deal that Cam doesn't have much experience under center.

it's clear who this Bleacher Report writer is siding with (and a hint, it's not JoyKat)

Bleacher Report (i know some people don't like them) compared all 32 teams to rock bands). i think based on the history so far, they're pretty dead on with comparing Titans to STP.

Madden Ratings are out for Titans. At least this year CJ2K gets an OVR 99 rating. While VY's a little better, he's still at an OVR 79. and in another indication that KB53's not coming back, they've given witherspoon his uniform number.

Stat of the Week

Sneak Preview of the Must-Have Book Dept.: I always love Football Outsiders Almanac, in which Aaron Schatz and his footballoutsiders.com brethren attack stats and delve into gametape like few others can. (Football Outsiders Almanac 2010 is due in stores in July, by the way.) But the FO crew has just finished its annual breakdown of tackles broken and tackles missed, and two of the numbers that jumped out at me belonged to young turks Percy Harvin and Ray Rice. Harvin led all receivers in 2009 by a wide margin with 25 tackles broken (Wes Welker was next with 16). Here's the top 10 running backs in tackles broken in 2009:

1. Chris Johnson, Tennessee, 61
2. Ray Rice, Baltimore, 57
3. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota, 56.
4. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville, 52
5. Steven Jackson, St. Louis, 50
6. Jonathan Stewart, Carolina, 46
7. DeAngelo Williams, Carolina, 40
7. Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh, 40
9. Fred Jackson, Buffalo, 35
10. Knowshon Moreno, Denver, 33

A broken tackle, as defined by Football Outsiders, is either a play in which the defender has the ballcarrier wrapped up -- or a play in which the ballcarrier fakes a defender out of his jock. Subjective, but you get the point. It's a good measure of hard runners and elusive runners, at the same time.

CJ led all RBs in broken/missed tackles in '09 (as if it's a surprise)

So maybe we didn't/won't get AH, but Henderson would certainly be an upgrade

As i suggested yesterday in my comments - the Lions could be a dark-horse team in the running for Fat Al's services, and now it looks like Boom King's been lobbying for them to grab him as well.

" Holdout for Chris Johnson?
1:47 PM ETChris Johnson | Titans

Across the league, many players that were kept on a one-year restricted tender have sat out as their teams began offseason work as a sign of displeasure. But one player who is still multiple years away from any kind of free agency might join them in staying away from the offseason work.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli hinted on Friday that it's possible that Chris Johnson might stay away from workouts with the Tennessee Titans in order to try and force a new deal. If no change occurs, Johnson will make $560,000 in 2010, the third year of a five-year pact that he signed as a rookie.

We don't expect Johnson to sit out for any regular season games -- so his fantasy football owners shouldn't worry -- but it has the potential to cause a situation with teammates."

i recall someone posting in the last couple weeks a question about whether anyone had the Titans drafting Sergio Kindle in the draft. Well, the fine folks over at the Sporting News have come out w/ their Pre-Combine 1st round mock draft, which has the Titans doing just that.

While the Tennessean is reporting the Titans are talking to Crump's agent - ESPN's insider is reporting that the Pats could make a play for him.

FROM ESPN:
Alge growing on the Pats?
9:28
AM ETAlge Crumpler | Titans | Interested: Patriots?
There's a lot of uncertainty related to the tight end position for the Tennessee Titans as we throttle towards the official start of the 2010 NFL year on March 5. Bo Scaife -- the franchise tag recipient in 2009 -- will be negotiating for a new pact, and veteran Alge Crumpler is set to hit free agency. Crumpler's agent tells the Nashville Tennessean that his client would like to return, but it's not certain that he will.

If Alge is removed from Nashville, where might he land? Interestingly, all four AFC East teams could be in the market for a tight end this offseason. The most logical choice could be the Patriots, who may see the departure of Ben Watson, and who have a habit of signing older vets who are still hungry for a championship ring.

i know the link is espn/insider - this particular article talks about Jacoby Ford - WR. While WR is not a specific need - KR/PR is a HUGE need - plus if he could also catch some passes - what a bonus. Having him, VY and CJ on the field at once could be pretty dynamic. This is probably not the 1st time we'll hear his name w/ the Titans. The problem is, he probably won't last till the 3rd round after the combine, and i don't see the Titans going this way in the 1st round.

FROM ESPN:
Ford's stock on the rise?
9:55
AM ETJacoby Ford Top Email Although the athletes set to hit the scouting combine in Indianapolis this week have already put forth their best effots for game film, there are some who may have slipped through the cracks and will use a good showing to increase their prominence.

Although Jacoby Ford has legendary speed -- there are unconfirmed accounts of him running a 4.126 40-yard dash in high school -- his name hasn't been listed at the top of many draft lists as of yet (he's currently the 15th best on Scouts, Inc.'s list of draft-eligible WRs).

But that might change after Ford's workouts this week, where the track star is expected to put up another ridiculous 40 time. Ford is likely to wind up with a team that needs a playmaker in the passing game and on returns -- in the mold of Percy Harvin or DeSean Jackson -- and that could include the Panthers, Titans, Lions or Broncos, based on the return stats from 2009.

today's rumors have KB heading closer to his hometown (at least if he doens't re-sign w/ us, he'll be in the NFC?!?!)

Two NFC East teams after Bulluck?
1:33 PM ET

Keith Bulluck's agent contends that his client's knee will be fine going forward, but which jersey will Bulluck be wearing the next time he's on a football field?

There was some buzz on Bulluck joining his fellow Syracuse alum Dwight Freeney with the Indianapolis Colts, but after spending some time with him on Sirius NFL Radio, Adam Schein has two other options: the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. More on this as we get closer to March 5.

According to NFL.com's Mock Draft 2.0, the Titans will be drafting Brian Price, DT, UCLA. This is not the first time I've seen this. Here's what they say:

"17. Tennessee Titans
Brian Price, DT, UCLA

After watching his defense decline dramatically after the loss of Albert Haynesworth, Jeff Fisher adds the hard-working Price to to fortify the unit."

According to ESPN Insider, the Titans are one of the teams who could potentially be interested in Reggie Bush should he not be retained by the Saints. Here's what they have to say:

Reggie Bush's continued employment with the New Orleans Saints was a subject of debate all season long by pundits and fans. We don't have anything concrete from anyone inside the organization, but it was thought earlier that there was no way that the team would bring him back for the $8 million he's owed in 2010. If the Super Bowl winds up being Bush's last game for the Saints, he went out with a relative thud: five rushes for 25 yards, four catches for 38 yards and one punt return for 4 yards.

If he's not retained -- and that continues to be a big "if" -- two NFC West teams might lead the charge in bidding for him. The first is the Seattle Seahawks; the Pete Carroll connection is obvious, but the team has a pretty big need for a versatile RB, too. The other team is the 49ers, who need a complement to Frank Gore. Niners beat writer Matt Maiocco recently wrote, "It would fill a major need to get an elusive running back to play no more than a handful of offensive snaps a game while also taking over the punt- and kick-return chores." Who does that sound like?

But what about the Tennessee Titans? They're set at starting running back, but Bush has never been a traditional rusher anyway. What the Titans do need is an explosive returner (check), someone to come in to give Chris Johnson a rest from time to time (check) and another suitable receiving target for Vince Young (check). Are we missing something here?

If you're gonna play in a football game where there's a chance your underwear may show, make sure you're not wearing a thong. Even VY w/ his "6" wonderlich score knows this!!
