Greetings on this great day! I just wanted to give a couple of links and thoughts to get everyone started on their holiday.

First off, let me admit that I have a few pet peeves. It’s true. Probably the biggest one I have is when someone messes with the National Anthem. Truely, I'm still a little at odds with the whole "Chiefs" thing at Arrowhead, but I’ll live. =) That being said, I have to include one of the most phenomenal interpretations I’ve ever seen. I believe the reason I don’t take issue with this is because the singer is elevating the song and not himself.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Marvin Gaye:

I also want to include one more song to get the blood moving today, my favorite patriotic song of all "Stars and Stripes Forever." This is performed by the Boston Pops and makes me want to play the piccolo.

Just last night I started reading a book to kill time while the parking lot cleared after a local minor league ball game here. The book is American On Purpose by Craig Ferguson. It is being published by Harper Collins, and is due in stores in September.

Mr. Ferguson is a late night talk show host that was born in Scotland and recently became an American citizen, for those who don’t know. I’m just getting started so I can’t give a review, but I want to include a quote that I liked a lot from the preface.

Starting today, the crown of the Statue of Liberty is open to tourists again. This is the first time since September 11th that it will be open.

Finally, it’s great to hear the Captain America is alive. He’s been kicking ass and taking names since March, 1941 and after a little time off (due to death) he’s back in the saddle.
