In his introductory press conference, Derek Dooley indicated that he was first approached about the Tennessee job in a text message from UT athletic director Mike Hamilton. ("First of all, I was glad I know how to text," Dooley quipped.) Now, here in all its glory, I have uncovered for DawgSports readers the original text message conversation between these two proud Volunteers.
865-XXX-XXXX (Mike Hamilton): Hey derek .. its mike from tennessee.. R u interested n vols job?.... Can pay $$$ but need answer asap .. b4 great pumpkin returns! lol
318-XXX-XXXX (Derek Dooley): Mike.. thanx 4 msg but i think u have wrong #... this is derek dooley from la tech...
Hamilton: I know, ur my guy!... well, already got rejects from duke, air force, texas asst, lingerie league... next option is named kippy... pls come to knox!
Dooley: ... Can u keep eric berry? or get john chavis back?
Hamilton: No. But can offer $$$$... and Kippy. Maybe some layla kiffin wallpaper on the office computer.

Obviously, it "matters" for lots of reasons. But does it matter for SEC championship purposes? Counter-intuitively, maybe not.
