Mile High Report Why did we lose?

The Broncos lost 31 to 17.  An expected loss to some a surprise to others?  I for one thought that Denver had a realistic chance to win this game.  I though that Orton would pick apart the Raven's defense and in turn this would lead us to a win.  I was half right, Orton threw for two long TD's and 314 yards.  But, we lost.  What went wrong?

Mile High Report Keys to winning at Baltimore

Denver is going into this Sunday 2-2.  We should be 3-1-Denver should not have lost at Jacksonville.  But, we did.  Now we play the Ravens who have a very good team.  I remember last year at Baltimore the first offensive play for Denver, Orton was sacked (hard) off the right side.  I am not sure by who but it seemed to set the tempo for the rest of the game.  So how does Denver win on Sunday?

Mile High Report 1st half observation

Watching the game here in Seattle with all my Hawks friends and I couldn't be happier.  However, IMO Denver still has some huge problems that need to be addressed.  After the jump I will list what I see.

Mile High Report Trading Champ or Goodman?

With the lack of a proven pass rush a possibility in 2010 do the Broncos make a trade?  The Broncos nemesis is Phillip Rivers and this year they will be facing some other good QB's as well (Manning, Flacco, Schaub) so pressuring the QB is a must.  If the Broncos feel that they can contend in 2010 do they trade a starting CB for a pass rusher? If this were too occur what would our defense be like in 2011 with Doom on one side and another proven pass rusher on the other side.  What is more important good CB's or a strong pass rush.  Where am I going with this, read what Rotoworld just put out.  Interesting topic to discuss.

Mile High Report Injury update

I am looking forward to the next pre-season game but bummed that it will not be shown locally.  With that being said I was wondering how Denver made it out of Cincy in regard to injuries.    Does anyone have word on injuries suffered in the Cincy game?  Does anyone know when our three RB's-Moreno, Buck, and White as well as WR's Thomas and Decker and LT -Clady will be back and/o how are they doing?  I am hoping that all six will be back by week 1 of the regular season, the exception being White of course.

Mile High Report RB depth

With all the recent injuries to our running backs do we need to grab another RB?  Moreno will probably be back by the first game, which is great news.  However, it was recently reported (Rotoworld) that Buck will be seeing a specialist for his neck.  This is not the best of news for our #2 RB or any RB.  I am not a docotor but I do not like a RB who is seeking medical advice reference a neck injury.  T  This can be nonthing or it could be a problem. This leads me to the big question-our RB depth.  Lendale White who is a capable RB will not be playing the 1st four games due to a suspension.  With that being said if Buck can not play who will be backing up Moreno during the 1st quarter of the season and/or beyond.  Do we have someone on the roster who can fill that role or do we need to pickup someone else.  Two RB's that come to mind are Lynch and Westbrook.  Both are available and can be had for different costs.  Lynch is younger (24) and is a capable RB.  Westbrook (30) is older and slightly less capable.  Does it make sense to pick up Lynch and have him and Moreno in the mix for several years or pick up Westbrook for a year and then draft a RB in 2011?  Or do we have a capable back already on our roster?  Interesting questions what do Bronco faithful think?  GO BRONCOS!

Mile High Report Decker injury and news

Any word on Decker?  Rotoworld is advising that he went out with an injury to his foot.  Hopefully the injury is not serious.  Lord knows this team has had its fair share of injuries.  I am also wondering how Orton and Thomas are looking.  Who started on the O-line?  Did Tebow have any good plays?  How is the defense looking?  Any word on how Ayers and Baker are looking?   Any word will be greatly appreciated.  Thank and GO BRONCOS!!!!!

Mile High Report Robert Ayers a bust

I have written several times stating that one of the more important players needing to step up this year is Robert Ayers.  Ayers needs to become a force opposite DOOM for several reasons two being (1) take pressure off Doom (balance out the defense) and (2) justify his high pick and salary.  The majority of fans were dissapointed in his play last year, me included.  This year he has to show that he can get to the QB and make plays against the run and while in coverage.  I am hoping that Ayers can finish the 2010 season strong with at least 50+ tackles, 1+ Int, 1+ forced fumble and at least 5+ sacks.  If he can become a good starting OLB he would allow the Broncos to draft a stud DE or ILB with one of their top picks next year.  He would also allow MCD to avoid the embarrassment and criticism of wasting our first two picks (Ayers and A. Smith) during the 2009 draft.  This is what was written in the "Rumor" section at ESPN.   What do other Bronco fans think?

Mile High Report Three Offensive Plays for Tebow

I don't remember seeing this previously at Mile High Report.  The folks at "Football Outsiders" have scripted three plays which:

  • Take advantage of Tebow's running ability while hiding his limitations as a passer.
  • Use Williams as a threat both to block and catch screens.
  • Offset the loss of Brandon Marshall.
  •

    Here is the link:

    http://www.footballoutsiders.com/walkthrough/2010/walkthrough-plug-n-play

I am curious to know the opinions of our readers on the following points

    (1) Will Tebow play this year?

    (2) How much will he play this year?

    (3) Will he play in a goal line, short yardage or what other type of package (Wild Horse)?

    (4) How effective will he be?

    (5) Will McD use his running abilitiy more or will Tebow us with his arm?

    (6) Is he the answer at the QB position for 2011?

Mile High Report Albert Haynesworth-worth a trade?

Up here in Seattle John Clayton has created quite a stir.  He was on KJR 950AM and suggested that the Seahawks

attempt to acquire Haynesworths for a 5th round pick.  How Clayton knows of the trade value for Haynesworth I don't know.  Furthmore, I have not heard if the Redskins are shopping Haynesworth.  I am just curious what Bronco readers feel.  He is a stud when he wants to be but then again he is also a pain!  A 5th round pick for Haynesworth may be worth it and would be cheap.  I know he does not like the 3-4 but I am sure the Broncos could run plays (5-2?) to take advantage of his skills.  Just wondering what everyone thinks?

Mile High Report Demaryius Thomas is on the field

According to the DP, WR Thomas is on the field.  This is great news for the Broncos. Thomas is a true verticle threat with speed and size.  His route running will get worked on but you can't teach size and speed.  I am looking forward to seeing him help in the blocking game and springing Moreno for some long runs.  Its sad that QB Brandstater was released but there was no way the Broncos were going to carrying four QBs.  As each day passes additional cuts will be made and the finished product (53 man roster) will come to form.  Barring injuries I feel that this year the Broncos will contend but IMO we still lack one playmakers each on both sides of the ball.  Denver is getting young good playermakers on the roster.  Another season of learning and another productive draft will put us over the top.  Go Broncos!!

Mile High Report NO MORE MOCKS-IT'S GAME TIME

PUT DOWN YOUR CHEAT SHEETS AND YOUR DRAFT MAGAZINES AND STOP THE MOCK DRAFTS.  THE FATE OF THE BRONCOS NOW RESTS IN THE HANDS OF SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS SITTING IN THE BRONCO "WAR ROOM."  WISH THESE PEOPLE WELL BECAUSE "OUR" TEAM'S FATE DEPENDS ON THEIR SOUND JUDGEMENT AND GOOD DECESIONS.  I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THIS TEAM THAT AFTER THE DRAFT THE DENVER BRONCOS WILL BE CONTENDING ONCE AGAIN FOR THE AFC-WEST.  GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mile High Report A short and Sweet Mock

The first five picks will determine this team's fate for the next few seasons.  We have lost alot of offensive talent and our defense is getting older. I hope that McD has done his homework so this draft can turn out better then his first.  My 1-6 round simple mock is:

    (1) Dez Bryant (WR)- We need his skills and offensive talent.

    (2) Vladimir Ducasse (OG)-Will help with the run and is an upgrade with what we have.

    (2) Weatherspoon or Sean Lee (ILB)-Will fill our hole at ILB both can tackle and play the pass

    (3) Carlton Mitchell (WR) or Montero Hardesty (RB)-More talent for the offense

    (4) JD Walton (OC)-Will help with the run is a good center

    (5) Donovan Warren (CB)-Has the skills and size to become a better then average CB.

    (6) Garrett Graham (TE)-Good pass catching/blocking TE

If Dez Bryant is taken prior to our pick at #11. I would think we go with McClain at #11 then with one of our picks in the second go with the best WR available and Ducasse.  The mock then continues on.

    Mile High Report Shawn Andrews

The Eagles released OG Shawn Andrews yesterday.  It broke today.  Andrews is an outstanding 27 year old Guard (1 Pro Bowl).  He is about 6'5" 330#.  He has had some back problems and has fought despression.  As usual it has been mentioned that if he is on the right team he could be an impact player for several years out.  Does anyone have anymore info on him.  I have seen him play and he is a very good O-line man.  Any thoughts?

Mile High Report Marshall to the Jets?

While reading ESPN (rumors) they suggested that the Jets would being willing to package a deal that includes Braylon Edwards for Marshall.  I am wondering what us Bronco fans think would be a good deal.  Would Braylon Edwards and either their 2nd or 3rd round pick be good enough or would the Broncos be better off with David Harris (ILB) and either their 2nd or 3rd.  What do you think and what do we want MCD to do with Marshall?

Mile High Report Ouestions and more Questions

Last season at the start of week 8 all Bronco fans were dreaming of the playoffs and a 16-0 season.  What happened?  Was it the poor O-line play, Orton or the breakdown of the D-line?  IMO I think that games are won and lost in the trenches. It seemed that the O-line could not get the necessay push to create holes for the RB's and the D-line could not stuff the runs or collapse the pocket.  It appears that MCD is looking to beef up both lines and also use a rotation on the D-line.  I am wondering if the Broncos were to sign J. Williams and with the recent signing of J Bannan should we draft another D lineman (DT or DE) or a LB with our 1st and then focus on the O-line with our 2nd pick (C or G)?  What about our 3rd round pick should we pick for the O-line again or pick a speed WR, who could stretch the defense?  I am assuming that Marshall will be back for the 2010 season so a true speed WR could only help Marshall become more of a beast.  I am also wondering if anyone has heard on the status of Chris Baker and what role he may have have this season and what grade would Bronco fans place on R. Ayers and A. Smith and what roles both of them will play this season.  Thanks for any response to my many questions.  GO BRONCOS!!!!!

Mile High Report Brandon Marshall (Seattle viewpoint)

As a die-hard Bronco fan living in Seattle I am catching firsthand what the 12th man thinks of Brandon Marshall here in Seattle.  The majority of fans calling in to the local sports talkshow (950 KJR) do not want to trade either the 6th or the 14th pick for him.  Most agree that a 2nd rounder and a 2011 2nd rounder is adequate.  As with most fans the concensus is that he is a beast, a great WR but with huge issues and risks.  I hope that BM pays attention to what is being said and realizes that he and maybe his agent are the only individuals that think he is worth his weight in gold.  IMO his best bet is the to listen to MCD, shut up and go play good football for the Broncos.  He will get his money either from the Broncos or from another team but it won't be this year.  Seattle fans don't want him or his issues at the Qwest.  Sorry Brandon but your attitude is costing you millions and the only one to blame is you.  Grow up, play good football and get you money after you prove yourself to the coaches and the GM's of the league.
