Fourth Week BCS Rankings Explained (with Logic)

Each week, I am continuing to take a look at the BCS rankings (Top Ten anyway), attempting to decipher them, and concluding how they occurred.  Clearly, I will be referencing the pure wisdom that...

Boring...but still annoying

The following quote is the one that annoys me: "A 48-21 win at UNLV Saturday night—with Kellen Moore throwing five touchdowns and passing ex-Texas star Colt McCoy as college football’s winningest quarterback—wasn’t enough to push the No. 5 Broncos any higher in the AP Top 25 despite No. 2 Alabama losing at home. That’s partially because Alabama went down in overtime to No. 1 LSU, but it’s also because Boise State (8-0) wasn’t fully convincing in its win over the Rebels." Same old double standards...it gets so annoying. We win by four TD's (with the missed PAT), and it's "just not convincing enough" while Alabama can't even score a TD and is deemed worthy of their ranking. It makes me sick.

Who (aside from Coach Pete) has more class than Kellen Moore?

This comes from a Seattle radio interview. Kellen, not surprisingly, says all the right things. It would be kind of fun though if just once, he said something like, "Broncos Rule! BW the BCS! We'll give any team a beatdown!" Just sayin'...

Initial BCS Rankings Explained (with Logic)

So now that the BCS rankings are finally out, I wanted to take a look at them and attempt to decipher these rankings (for the top 10 anyway) and how they occurred.  Clearly, I will be referencing...

AP in as well

Both polls dropped the Broncos behind Wisconsin.

Gavins cracks the Rivals.com Power Rankings

Moore, Martin, Efaw, Potter, Winn, McClellin, & Coaches Pete, K, and Pease all retain spots in the rankings as well. I though Shoe should have cracked the receivers list, but apparently not yet...

Boise State drops to No. 5 in Coaches Poll, stays at No. 4 in AP

The Broncos held a four-point lead on Stanford in the Coaches Poll last week and trail the Cardinal by two this week. So basically they've been tied for fourth for a while. BSU still has one first place vote in the AP, so keep that bribe money coming.

Dan Wetzel re-states the obvious...but he's good at it!

We all know it, so it's not like this is any news...but again, we need a frickin' playoff! Dan Wetzel makes his latest argument.

Open Letter to TCU

Life in the Big East may not be what the Horned Frogs were expecting!  Join me after the jump as I address a letter to them.

Rivals.com Power Rankings

A few notable things in this week's rankings: Kellen Moore is ranked #2 (where he started the year), we have 2 of the top 5 ranked defensive linemen (Winn and McClellin), Kyle frickin' Efaw made the rankings, Doug Martin in the top 10 (though he dropped from preseason), Iloka in the top 20 defensive backs, and Nate Potter has been bumped up to #1 for all offensive linemen! Go Broncos!

Energy Vampires?

Article on Mark Richt and Georgia's "new attitude." My favorite part is the "Energy Vampire" bit. Weird.

Pretty good article, other than the obligatory "not a good NFL fit" angle.

Kyle Wilson goes to Revis Island

6

As excited as I was last year when Kyle Wilson came to New York to play for the Jets, he certainly did not live up to expectations during his rookie year. Granted that New Yorkers' expectations are seldom realistic...(examples: Derek Jeter will never age; Eli Manning should be just as good as Peyton Manning based on bloodlines; Rex Ryan should be able to eat as much as he wants without gaining more weight). So I was happy to see this article about Wilson's offseason, time spent learning from Revis, and renewed sense of purpose. Not that I'm surprised...still seems to have the Bronco chip on the shoulder attitude.

Yahoo! Ranks BSU Coaching Staff too low

8

How could Petersen and staff be ranked below South Carolina, Iowa, and Virginia Tech? In fact I (with only a little bit of homerism) would put us in the top two with TCU for doing more with less resources (make that #1...TCU has way more resources). And Paterno's only ranked high because he's old.

Props for Titus Young

I was listening "Mike and Mike in the Morning" (or whatever it's called) on ESPN New York today and they were talking about the NFC North and Detroit Lions.  After giving the obligatory nods to M...
