Acme Packing Company OK... Let's debate who Pack could get in 1st three rounds

Now that we know which compensatory picks we received, I have gone to Walter Football to compile the "consensus rankings" of just the defensive players available. I figure that this would allow us to discuss the bigger picture of who the Pack could net in the first three rounds.

Data after the jump...

Acme Packing Company Packer history: Past 5-0 starts

Having heard the announcers on the NBC broadcast repeatedly mention that tonight's win put the Packers at 5-0 for the 7th time in team history, with the prior 6 all coming in championship seasons, I became curious enough to look up the history of those starts.  The past 5-0 starts came in the years:

1929 (all five wins at home)

1930 (4 of 5 wins at home)

1931 (all five at home)

1944 (all five at home)

1962 (4 of 5 at home)

1965 (3 of 5 at home)

This season (2 of 5 at home)

Perhaps someone else might know why the Packers played so many early season games at home in most of these seasons.  I figure that the explanation for the long home stands in the pre-WW II days might have been to save money in the lean days before the NFL became the most popular sport.  Perhaps the heavy dose of early home games might have been part of an effort to avoid playing in the winter conditions later, since the Pack seemed to always play about equal games at home and on the road, overall each season.  Anyhow, more details from each start below the jump.  All information is courtesy of www.pro-football-reference.com

Acme Packing Company Early look at some potential future Packer OT & DB draft picks

Now that our 2009 season is over, I think that most fans here are most interested in getting some defensive backs and tackles for next season.  Since I too would love to know more about potential future Packers, I have taken information from the Walter Football website and formatted it for consumption here.

First, here is a listing of each DB who Walter projects as going as early as the third round... I have merged the lists for CBs and Ss, to create a master list of potential DB picks for the first few rounds

Acme Packing Company Favre Picks Blue, Not Purple (Yet)

I guess that Madison Ave. still loves Brett, even if many of us fans have seen some of his uglier personal qualities lately as he plays "retirement" games for at least one more off-season.

I swear that he continues to do the whole "will I come back thing" for no reason other than as an ego stroke.  The fact that he is so willing to joke about it for profit seems to indicate that he considers his retirement hokey-pokey to be funny... he sure never was hesitant when it came to on-field choices-- heck, look at how fearless he was in picking receivers or deciding to scramble throughout his career.

Anyhow, here is a link to an article about the newest Favre advertising campaign:  http://nysportsjournalism.squarespace.com/favre-sears7279/2009/7/27/brett-favre-decides-on-a-team-sears.html
