The Ralphie Report ESPN Reporting PAC-12 has decided against expansion

The Pac-12 conference on Tuesday affirmed their decision against expanding from their 12-team alignment, a development that for now scuttles the possible departure from the Big 12 of Texas and Oklahoma.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I had expectations of going 16. If I had to guess SEC and ACC go and stay at 14 and go to 14 respectively while the BIg 12 and the Big Least work some kind of deal out.

The Ralphie Report Search Committee named........no players or AD personel????

The school announced the names on the search committee yesterday and one thing was noticeably absent, any former players or anyone with a background in college football. While I'm given some comfort by the fact that there are a few large donors on the committee I can't understand for the life of me why Bohn would not include a former player/coach or two.  It just gives me the impression that this entire process is nothing more than a demonstration in "CYA".

What does everyone else think and has anyone had any meaningful contact with these committee members in the past that should give Buffnation some comfort in the direction of the program?

CU, Bohn Name Search Committee For New Head Football Coach

BOULDER — The search committee has been named to help determine who will become the 24th full-time head football coach in University of Colorado history, school officials released Wednesday.

CU’s Faculty Athletics Representative and long-time faculty member, Dr. David Clough, will chair the seven-person committee. A professor in Chemical and Biological Engineering, he has been on the faculty since 1975 and has served as Colorado’s FAR to the Big 12 Conference since 2005, a role in which he will continue when the Buffaloes join the Pacific-12 Conference next July 1.

Joining Clough on the committee are:

  • Dr. Robert Boswell, Interim University of Colorado Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Community Engagement; Professor, Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology
  • Dr. Elizabeth Bradley, Chair, Boulder Faculty Assembly Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and Professor, University of Colorado Department of Computer Science;
  • Dave Hoover, Chairman & CEO/Ball Corporation;
  • Roger Parker (’83, Business-Mineral Land Management), Chairman & CEO/Recovery Energy, Inc.;
  • Ric Porreca, Senior University of Colorado Vice Chancellor & Chief Financial Officer; and
  • George Solich (‘83, Business-Mineral Land Management), President & CEO/Cordillera Energy Partners III, LLC.

The committee is charged with seeking candidates to replace Dan Hawkins, who was relieved of his duties after nearly five seasons on November 9. Committee members will study and evaluate detailed information on candidates, and recommend one or more to CU athletic director Mike Bohn, who as the “hiring authority” is not a member of committee per university policy. The committee will also participate in interviews with candidates.

“I am pleased to be able to serve the University as the chair of the search committee for our head football coach and look forward to collaborating with this group of outstanding individuals,” Clough said. “I am certain the committee will endeavor to represent the diverse interests of University's students, faculty, staff and administration and the public in the course and outcome of the search.

“We will strive to present to the director of athletics and the chancellor recommendations that will lead to the hiring of the best possible candidate for head coach, an individual who will lead the program to success in the coming years in a way that will engender pride in all supporters of the University of Colorado.”

The committee will meet for the first time later this week.

Sucks big time.

A dark cloud seems to be parked over the University ever since the good news of the PAC 12 announcement. Think we may need someone to come in and perform an exorcism to get things turned around.

If you guys haven't listened or watched Big Al's speech at the 1990 anniversary luncheon you absolutely need to. I really hope all the current players were in attendance of this event.

The Ralphie Report Dan Hawkins Wants An Extension

Kyle Ringo of the BDC is reporting that Dan Hawkins wants a contract extension to improve "stability and continuity" on the team. I don't want to editorialize too much but how can he possibly be serious? Can he really not see that as fans we need to see something on the field if he even wants to keep his job? He still has another three years left on his contract as it is. This just blows me a way and makes me really question where is head is at.

"In a meeting of head coaches in the Colorado athletic department earlier this summer, a senior staff member asked the Buffs` head football coach if there was one thing the department could do to help his program succeed this season, what would it be? Multiple sources in the room that day told the Camera Hawkins responded by saying the school could give him a contract extension."

The Ralphie Report Too funny.....Cody is refusing to talk to CU beat writers

This is too Funny

From the Daily Camera. Apparently Cody is refusing to talk to CU beat writers because of their treatment of his father.....Glad to see a complete lack of professionalism and poor decision making run in the family. I know a lot of people have tried to give Cody the benefit of the doubt since he generally comes off as a good kid in a tough spot but give me a break. Grow up Cody.

I realize new small program coaches will step up in the next season and become hot names but I can't help but think CU really would have benefited from a move this offseason. Are there other solid coaches at smaller conference schools available of course, but for how long.........

The Ralphie Report Paige Openly Campaigning for Logan

And I am starting to agree. For anyone who missed it Dave Logan is headed towards his 5th 5A state championship at three different high schools. With his current squad only allowing an average of 4.3 pts per game.......

article here: http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_13887200

I have been a fan of logan for a long time but understand the dismissals as a possible head coach given he has never coached at the collegiete level, would be new to recruiting etc etc. I get all of the but I think it can and would work. But regardless what anyone thinks at this point it has to be worth a shot right?

Recruiting) Logan has been involved in more recruiting than we realize just on the other side of the fence. He has nine students currently with outstanding scholarship offers, that is ~40%+ of starters and between '05-'08 40 players have gone on to the next level. which leads to.....

Player Development) One of our big complaints about Hawkins and staff has been the inability to develop the talent on the field. I think Logan's achievement of putting guys into the next level demonstrates successful development. Is it apples to oranges or just apples to smaller apples? We can count on one hand the number of Hawk's players currently at the next level. And of those how many are holdovers from Barnett classes...

College vs High school) Logan had a tremendously successful college and NFL career. This is a guy that understands what it takes to compete at these levels regardless of where he currently coaches. The fact that he is a CU guy is just the feather in his cap as he would likely be someone to embrace the traditions of Colorado football. Additionally, I have to believe his relationships within the broncos organization would be just one more asset he brings to the table. Imagine him bringing in a guy like rod smith in the spring to help with the receivers for an afternoon.

Accountability) From every interview I have heard to first hand accounts this is a guy who is willingly to take responsibility when things go poorly and give praise to his players when good things happen, which in the case of Logan's teams is often the case.

At the end of the day Logan is more than the "FirstBank Guy" and deserves a solid look for the head coaching job at the Buffs and in my opinion well worth the risk at this point.

The Ralphie Report Moten accepted, to enroll this Spring

Article by Ringo at the DC. Josh seems to have a great attitude in wanting to help the team however he can whether that is at the QB position or not. Nice to see him step up and get enrolled. Also interesting what he says about a possible coaching change in Boulder. At his size and speed I  imagine it would be a fairly easy transition into a slot receiver or a DB since we are starting to stockpile the QB recruits.
