BGN Mock draft Giants Selection.
I'm making the giants selection for the BGN mock draft. The Pats are on the clock and I have a pretty good Idea of who I am selecting but would be grateful for any input. The previous picks were:
Previous Picks: #1 Andrew Luck, #2 Robert Griffin III, #3 Morris Claiborne, #4 Trent Richardson, #5 Matt Kalil, #6 Justin Blackmon, #7Melvin Ingram, #8 Ryan Tannehill, #9 Michael Floyd, #10 Dre Kirkpatrick, #11 David DeCastro, #12Courtney Upshaw, #13 Luke Kuechly, #14 Fletcher Cox, #15 Quinton Coples, #16 Mark Barron, #17 Stephon Gilmore, #18 Riley Reiff, #19 Janoris Jenkins, #20 Nick Perry, #21 Kendall Wright, #22 Stephen Hill, #23 Cordy Glenn, #24 Dont'a Hightower, #25 Jonathan Martin, #26 Dontari Poe, #27 Michael Brockers, #28 Devon Still, #29 Peter Konz #30 Coby Fleener #31 Whitney Mercilus
My board is as follows
1a) Chandler Jones
1b) Jerel Worthy
2a) Rueben Randle
2b) Alshon Jeffery
3) Andre Branch
4) Kevin Zeitler
5) Doug Martin
As of now, I have a hunch Chandler Jones OR Shea McCellin will be going to the pats. I hope they take McCellin because I don't think he would be a good fit here, (cant help but think he's sintim 2.0) and that leaves us with Chandler Jones who is BPA on my board. Even with Jones available, I may go with Worthy becauseI have a quasi man crush on him, I think he's just a stud, would contribute right away in our rotation, and is only slipping because of the depth at this years DT position. Grabbing him or Jones at 32 are steals. Also, going with Worthy lessens the blow of losing Canty (cap casualty possibility for 2013) and Bernard (age). Linval/Austin/Worthy is a pretty potent rotation. But again, so is Tuck/JPP/Jones.
As for Randle over Jeffery, Rueben just reminds me of Hakeem. The way he runs, his body movement, idk i just see hakeem 2.0.
Leave your thoughts. thanks.
Giants to trade for Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers
Per Garafolo: The Giants are finalizing details on a trade with the Bengals for linebacker Keith Rivers, according to someone informed of the progress of talks
Apparently, compensation will be a 2012 5th round pick.
Giants deny Bucs request to interview Gilbride, Jr.
Seems a bit odd, giants normally let their coaches move vertically. However, it could be possible that Gilbride, Jr. is in line for a promotion because we have coaching spots to fill (QB coach, Offensive line asst) .

Hilarious article by bill simmons about super bowl 46
Sights and sounds from NFC championship game
Great stuff. Love Jpp at the end, pretty sure the feeling is mutual!
JPP not on Pro Bowl Ballot.
JPP was removed from the po-bowl ballot a couple weeks ago. I found it troubling then, and even more troubling now. As fans, is there anything we can do to correct this grave injustice?
Justin Tryon broken arm. Done for year.
Wow. That sucks. This kid was a steal from the colts. Need Amukamara to get back quickly.
Giants 70k cap space
lol wut? I think PFT screwed up and didnt discount an IR settlement with Sage.
Manningham ruled out vs Eagles.
Paging Victor Cruz......this is your moment to shine kid.
Joselio Hanson on the block
doubt eagles would send him here and help our secondary, but this guy is good. Would love to see him in blue.
Justin Tuck Ranked #1 DE in NFL by ESPN
Some other interesting ranks.
Trent Cole #3
Cullen Jenkins #12 .......?
Osi #14
Kiwi # 17
Jason Babin #20
Stephen Bowen # 32
JPP # 35
David Baas has agreed to terms with the Giants on a 5 year, $26 million contract.
Not sure if Matt Barrows is accurate or reliable, but i was looking for numbers on the Baas contract. Sadly, i cant find the guaranteed $$$
**update** guys @ Niner's nations are reporting its a three year deal. IDK now..

NFL Lockout: See if I have this straight/Help me understand.
I haven't been following this ordeal too closely, since I honestly never in my wildest imagination thought, for a second, it would reach this point.
So (correct me if I am wrong on any of this), this entire process started when the owners voted in 2008 to opt out of the CBA following the 2010 season because the players received around 60% of the leagues revenue, and they, the owners, wanted more money to cover their investments (stadiums) and expenditures. The NFLPA was skeptical that the owners were losing money and following failed negotiations towards a new CBA, started mediation.
The owners wanted ~1 billion to cover investments and expenses. So they suggested an 18 game regular season, rookie pay scale etc... to cover this amount. In response, the NFLPA told them to shove it. The NFLPA wanted full financial disclosure from the owners to understand how/why the owners could justifiably ask for 1 billion dollars. Instead of full financial disclosure the owners offered partial disclosure (unsure what they provided the NFLPA) then tried to haggle and "split the difference". Again, the NFLPA told them to shove it and decertified. By decertifying, the NFLPA no longer acts as a bargaining agent for the players. In doing so, the players can file anti-trust lawsuits.
Alright, assuming what i just wrote is somewhat accurate, I fail to understand the owners stance on this. Why was full financial disclosure too much to ask? They weren't asking for chump change here. Last time I checked, a billion dollars is a crap ton of money. Requiring financial disclosure to substantiate a 1 billion dollar request seems reasonable to me. Have the owners issued a statement on why full financial disclosure is unreasonable? What are they trying to hide? Christ, I could go Google the packers financial statements ( after doing so, despite increasing revenue, their profit margin has shrunk substantially, about 50% from '08-'10 due to increased costs, notably player costs). If the rest of the owners are experiencing these problems, why cant they just hand over the documents to prove it?
NFLPA applies for decertification
NFLPA applies for decertification. We are one step closer to a lockout.
Crap, this is not looking good.
Jeff Fisher and Titans Parting Ways!
"In an unexpected development in what already has been a turbulent offseason in Tennessee, the Titans and Jeff Fisher, the NFL's longest-tenured head coach, are preparing to part ways, SI.com learned Thursday afternoon." -S.I.
Wow, this is very unexpected. Fisher, in my mind, is an excellent coach. Very surprising development, hopefully we get to keep fewell.
Wade Phillips Fired.
Jerry finally did it. Wade Phillips is no longer the head coach in Dallas. Jason Garrett will take over
Giants to place Mathias Kiwanuka on IR
Tough break, Kiwi is done for the year. The roster move will clear space for kick returner Will Blackmon.

Pascoe Signed; Kehl Waived
Its frightening to think but our coverage teams might get even worse. Kehl was tied with 16 tackles on specials.
Dallas Draft Board leaked (giant picks ranked)
The guys over at Blogging The Boys have a leaked picture of the Cowboys draft board. Based on the layout, It seems like the original board was filled with individual magnetic strips with the players name and measurements (see Jerry's hand). When the players were drafted their card was removed from the board and replaced with: players last name, first initial. team, round-pick (ex. Joseph, L. NYG 2-46). So, at the time when this picture was taken, all the remaining player cards represent players still available. Also, It looks like Jerry is in the process of taking Clay Harbor (Eagles 4-125) off the board. Dallas drafted right after Philly and took Akwasi Owusu-Ansah at 126. According to their board, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah was the BPA at the time (4-1) and, presumably, that's part of the reason they took him.
Original post can be found here
This additional post has a great consolidated spreadsheet of the entire board. It also lists all the "notable" players who are absent from the board.
Giant Picks ranked (rd-pick)
1-16. Jason Pierre-Paul
4-13. Linval Joseph
3-8 or 9. Chad Jones *see note
4-18. Mitch Petrus
?-? Phillip Dillard **
7-? Adrian Tracy
Some interesting rankings:
1-14. Sean Lee (WOW)
1-20. Navarro Bowman
1-22. Tyson Alualu
2- 5. Brandon Graham
2- 16. Jimmy Clausen
3- 1. Sergio Kindle
3- 2. Anthony Davis
6-1. Jared Veldheer
* Chad Jones' name should be written on the board but, Its probably obscured by Jerry's arm/hand. If i had to take a guess, they ranked him at rd 3, pick 8-9. (look at the spots covered by Jerry's hand).
** Phillip Dillard's name should also be written on the board since he went at 115. But i can't find it for the life of me...the guy who does gets a cookie...
I've spent the last hour looking for the ranks of our draft class, but I always sucked at playing Where's Waldo as a kid, so maybe you guys will have better luck.
Also, please note that teams rank players on different criteria (schemes etc) so these ranks shouldn't validate (or invalidate) particular picks. Nevertheless, it's pretty interesting...
My first--and last--2010 NFL Mock Draft.
Alright, here we go. The first four picks are pretty obvious. However, if the redskins deal Big Al to the lions, Detroit goes with Okung (i think they would be smart to pursue this, but doubt they do)
Rams -- Sam Bradford
Lions -- Ndamukong Suh
Buccaneers -- Gerald McCoy
Redskins -- Russell Okung
Chiefs -- Trent Williams. Now things get interesting. The chiefs would really like to trade out of this spot, but i don't think they'll find a suitor. If stuck, they pick either Berry or OT. But, Pioli is too traditional to draft a safety at 5. So OT it is.
Seahawks -- Bulaga.. Berry is tempting here, but Seattle can't afford to enter round 2 without a stud LT. Two tackles have already been selected and the Hawks make it a third because they cant risk waiting till 14.
Browns -- Eric Berry. The Browns land the best player in the draft
Raiders --Anthony Davis. Really tempted to stick em with Campbell, but I think Al Davis takes his meds on thursday.
Bills -- Jimmy Clausen.
Jaguars -- Tim Te....just kidding. They take Derrick Morgan. But in all seriousness, The Jags cant afford to walk away from the Draft without Tebow. The NFL is a business. Tebow sells tickets....or atleast a ton of autographs
Broncos -- Rolando McClain. Sorry...
Dolphins -- Dan Williams.
49ers -- Joe Haden. He's BPA and addresses a need. Another possibility is Earl Thomas.
Seahawks -- C.J. Spiller. They would take Morgan if he was available.
Giants -- Brandon Graham. TBH, I dont like this pick too much either, flame away. But with no Spiller, McClain, Morgan, or Williams this pick is tough. Plus IMO, weatherspoon and the next tier of DT's are all reaches. Before this pick i'd imagine JR is desperatly trying to work a trade to move back. Also, I could see us taking JPP (cringe). If this happens they have an entire day to move Osi.
Titans -- JPP
49ers -- Charles Brown. 49er's reach to fill a need.
Steelers -- Maurkice Pouncey.
Falcons -- Sean Weatherspoon.
Texans -- Earl Thomas.
Bengals -- Dez Bryant. Gresham is a possiblity here too.
Patriots-- Sergio Kindle.
Packers -- Kyle Wilson.
Eagles -- Iupati. Eagles are pissed. They wanted Wilson. I'd expect them to trade up ahead of the Steelers to get him.
Ravens -- Jared Odrick.
Cardinals -- Jerry Hughes.
Cowboys -- Taylor Mays. Probably wishful thinking on my part....but @#$% Dallas.
Chargers -- Ryan Matthews. Mt. Cody or best available cornerback are other options.
Jets -- Linval Joseph. They really wanted a pass rusher...but tough @#$$ I wanted Suh. Rex ryan knows how important a NT is to his defense. Cody is tempting, but they pass.
Vikings -- Devin McCourty
Colts -- Brian Price
Saints -- Everson Griffen
Interesting development on Giant pre-draft visits.
Recently Mike Garafolo tweeted
"Curious why more NYG predraft visits haven't been reported? It's bc the team scared the bejesus (cap "J"?) out of every agent in the biz. [They] "Threatened to cancel visits and all that good stuff if the agents let the cat out of the bag about their clients visiting. Oh well.
In the 2008 draft class, not one pick had a pre-draft visit. However, in 2009, Sintim, Beckum, and Barden all dropped by the meadowlands prior to the draft AND the visit was reported /confirmed by the Giants FO. Now the FO is threatening to cancel visits if the player agents leak the info? what the heck?
I'm not sure what to make of this--if anything. It could be just a smokescreen, but it begs the question...why? Why the secrecy, and why now? Why try and protect information that historically had little significance?
What do you guys think?
----edit--- PFT posted a similar article. it can be found here http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/14/giants-dont-want-you-to-know-about-their-player-visits/
Am I the only one who thinks McClain is overrated?
First off, I'm not trying to argue that McClain is a bad player. On the contrary, I think he's good, but i don't see enough dominance to warrant a top 15 pick (ya ya I know i mocked him to Denver in our BBV community mock, let that slide for now). Honestly, I really want to like him and God knows we need a MLB--what a great fit it could be! But nevertheless, I've tried to watch as much footage as possible on McClain and while i see many good attributes, i just don't see his play warranting that much praise. Please watch these clips objectivly and ask yourself whether he's an elite MLB. If you think he is, come back here and explain it to me....please...
IMHO, his best asset lies in his ability to diagnose the play quickly and get himself into position for the opportunity to make a play. Many attribute this to his thorough preparation via film study and a high football IQ, and I'd hafta agree. He seldom looks confused, lost or out of position on the field. Subsequently, I think he has a relatively high 'floor' and he's a safe bet for alot of teams including the Gmen.
With that said, from what i've seen, he plays way to upright, he grabs at people rather than breaking down and delivering a hit when he tackles. He waits for the ball carrier to come to him. He doesn't do a great job of shedding or fighting through blockers. I don't see enough aggression, tenacity or determination to make plays. IMO, he looks content to let others make the play for him, and his supporting cast was good enough to enable this.
Please show me the light. I know that highlight clips can be deceiving (sadly it's all i could link), but is McClain really that much better than all the other MLB prospects that we spend the #15 pick on him?
