Blueshirt Banter Brad Marchand's cheap shot on Marc Staal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT-Vjh03n20&feature=player_embedded

We all know what happened between Andrew Ference & Ryan McDonagh in Overtime at Boston this past Saturday, but check out what we missed between Brad Marchand & Marc Staal. This was during the first period at the TD Bank North Garden and maybe he deserves to get a return shot.

A sucker punch to the gut after Henrik Lundqvist covered the puck and Marchand tried to pry it loose after he covered it.

Blueshirt Banter Winter Classic in NYC maybe 2015

From the replay of the CBC coverage of the Winter Classic on NHL Network, reported during the 3rd period that the Yankees Pinstripe Bowl will be over in December 2014. That could mean the 2015 Winter Classic could be held at Yankee Stadium for the NY Rangers to host it.

This is the dream we've all be hoping for. The NHL can finally be happy to host a Winter Classic game at the home of the 27 Time World Series Champions the New York Yankees

Between Philadelphia and NYC, Detroit could be 2013, Washington could be 2014

Blueshirt Banter Tortorella's favorite Rangers fan curses out on Canadian TV

Remember watching the second series of the Flyers/Rangers 24/7 show on HBO with little Liam. He and his family was at Citizens Bank ballpark to watch the Winter Classic. Well on NHL Network they showed the replay thru the broadcast of CBC.

While being interviewed in the 3rd period before Mike Rupp scored his second goal of the game, Liam informed the Canadian audience on his texting conversations with NY Rangers Head Coach John Tortorella and said this gem.

"I'm ready to go, let's kick the Flyers Ass."

What a great coach for the Rangers and what a guy to little Liam.

Blueshirt Banter Perpetual Opinion Post of Lemieux's whine fest.

I started writing on this site for opinion articles. I did the Yankees fan view of the Mets/Madoff situation and I just did one on Lemieux's whine and cheese fest because his team got blindsided by the Islanders while crying to their mommies. Hope you guys like it.

And yes I am my guns at Lemieux for the Graves slashing incident. By the way I saw on some FSN Pittsburgh show long time ago, Lemieux actually thought our coach at the time Roger Nielsen told Graves to intentionally slash him. Absolutely rediculous. We all know what type of guy Gravy is & he would neer do anything like that.

Blueshirt Banter Christensen & Zuccarello A Possible 1-2 Shootout Punch

We all know that the Shootout has been seen as something fun for the fans, but a gimick against those who love the game as a purist. I persoanlly believe that the points can distributed differently for those who win or lose, but one thing is for sure. Henrik is the King of the Shootouts in the net and you have two players that are successful in it.

When Erik Christensen was healthy he was a terror going against the opposition's goalies. He has worked on several different moves to get that puck in the net to give the Rangers a lead or to tie it up depending on who is going first. Since his knee injury I have been worried about who is going to be the guy to set up the Rangers to take that lead in the shootout. Well I'm not worried anymore since the call-up of Mats Zuccarello Aasen from the Connecticut Whale/Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL.

The 11 round shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden showed us the type of moves Zuccarello has and how he is able to fake the goalies skates off. Since the shootout wins in Dallas & in Atlanta Zuccarello has show plenty of paitence, poise & ready to spring into action when he gets close to the net.

When Christensen returns to the lineup from his knee injury he suffered against the New Jersey Devils at the rock, I expect John Tortorella to pencil in his shootout card 1. Christensen 2. Zuccarello. And watch the opposing goalies shake in the crease with fear. I understand Torts is not a fan of it, but if you have the King in net and these two giving the Rangers a second point after 60 minutes of regulation and 5 minutes of overtime. The shootout will be a better time for the team and their dominance of it will be fun again.

Blueshirt Banter A great signing to bring Lundqvist's new backup

For the past couple of seasons we saw Steve Valiquette man the nets and give Henrik Lundqvist the proper rest that he deserved. A tall goalie with quick cat like reflexes and nothing could go wrong with him as he helped the king relax and take the night off. Unfortunately for Steve this past season, something went wrong and after that great start to this concluded season he fell apart and Tortorella lost all confidence in him and he went back to Hartford and stayed in the AHL.

The backup goaltender carousel started with Chad Johnson, then Matt Zaba & of course it ended with Alex Auld towards the trading deadline all the way to the last game in Philadelphia. The only way that Lundqvist gets the proper rest is to get a goaltender that has been a proven back up or a former starter that will no longer be the #1 on their former side. I believe I have the answer as it looks like Auld will be released once the free agency period of the NHL begins after the Stanley Cup Finals.

Yes he has to tolerate Sean Avery as a teammate again and he will get a good number of games to give Lundqvist the proper rest to some back to back games and possible west coast trips. Marty Turco is our man. After nine seasons the Dallas Stars have decided not to re-sign him and this could be a solid signing for next season. He is 34 years old and I understand he could still be sought after as a starter for another NHL team, but I think that his skills are still quality and he can play the puck behind his net.

I understand he hates Avery but if no one is offering him a contract as a #1 goaltender then the Rangers should pick him up a.s.a.p. and he will be needed when Henrik needs a rest badly.

Blueshirt Banter Why Are The New York Rangers like Greg "The Hammer" Valentine?

It takes them 20 minutes just to get warmed up before they are ready to play the hockey game.

:-D

For those of you that are WWF/WWE Wrestling fans, when Gorilla Monson would commentate a Greg Valentine match he would always say, "The Hammer needed five to ten minutes just to get warmed up before he really started to get his grove on."

That is my joke of the moment folks. I hope it was good.

Blueshirt Banter What's worse? The Avery Rule, or the Matt Cooke Rule.

It's amazing what the people in Toronto are doing when they review the rule book, or decide to change a rule in the middle of a season or in the middle of the playoffs. Was it the right thing to do?, or the wrong thing to do. Well let's review that certain rule that made everyone upset about two years ago when the New Jersey Devils played the Rangers in the first round. Game 3 at MSG & the Rangers lead 2-0 in the series.

The score is 1-1 in the second period and the Rangers are on a two man advantage power play, with 1:30 on the Devils penalties. Sean Avery has already skated towards the net to screen Martin Brodeur. But instead of turning his back, Avery decides to face Marty and waive his stick. Of course Avery does this several times and no penalty was given. At 6:50 of the second period Avery scores the goal on a quick feed by Scott Gomez to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Even though the Rangers lost Game 3 in overtime, they would win the series in five and on Prudential Center Ice in Newark. But after Game 3 Colin Campbell already creating a rule after Sean Avery on how not to screen the goaltender. If any player wishes to screen the goaltender and doesn't do it the proper way, gets a two minute penalty. In my view Sean Avery never touched Brodeur, never interfered with Brodeur. In fact the two things he was guilty of was blocking Brodeur's vision to see the puck and using his brain to create the moment.

Now we come to a man who is hated in the NHL by the fans, players and his teammate Bill Guerin. Matt Cooke has been known to give dangerous hits, cheap shots & concussions. Now I didn't see the hit Cooke gave Marc Savard when the Bruins visited Penguins on Sunday, March 7th. But thanks to CBC's Don Cherry during his Coaches Corner segment, we saw Matt Cooke's resume.

First it was the cheap knee to knee hits on Mats Sundin & Vinny LeCavalier. Then we all remember the cheap way he started a fight with Chris Drury after Drury delivered a clean check when the Rangers won in OT on February 12th. But now it's high elbows and cheap shots to the head like he did to Savard and to our own Artem Anisimov, but sadly Savard got it worse. Marc Savard never knew Matt Cooke was coming & he got blasted.

If you click the link below and move the cursor to 1:29 on the player you can see Don Cherry get animated about what Cooke has done to Marc Savard. At the same time I have to agree that the NHL has done the wrong thing by not suspending Cooke for his actions. They have said they will put a rule into effect for the start of next season. In my view the NHL are a bunch of hypicrits, because it was easier to stop Avery's antics than to take a stand on cheap shots to the head of hockey players. Sure they are looking at it now, but this should've been taken care of a week ago.

Matt Cooke is very lucky he didn't have to use his get out of jail free card. But right now the target on Sidney Crosby's back just got bigger. You know someone like Daniel Carcillo is already itching to get Sidney in his crosshairs and take him out. But if the NHL is going to suspend Danny Boy, the roar in Bean Town will be so loud and angry there could be a field trip to Toronto and protests at the front door.

But let me say this as I believe what's good for the goose is good for the Gander. If Daniel Carcillo is reading this, or if any Flyers fans wants to read this. Please tell Carcillo to give Matt Cooke a taste of his own medicine. I honestly don't care how he does it, but make sure it's quick, painless and he isn't moving on the ice at all. Then Sidney Crosby is fair game and we shall see how the NHL will protect their golden ticket.

Blueshirt Banter Fancy Fabric Reebok nearly claims Del Zotto in Hockey jersey Gate

View Image

I had a strange feeling that one day this sort of thing would've happened to an NHL player & sadly that fear came when an innocent looking stumble in the near right corner of the rink at Mellon Arena didn't look so innocent any more. It was only 2:24 into the first period as the Rangers were looking for their first win this season against the Penguins and the start of the game looked pretty good. Michael Del Zotto was defending against Evgeni Malkin who had the puck and suddenly both men fell down (Malkin first, then Del Zotto).

Right away you saw Del Zotto in pain and holding his left side after falling on top of Malkin's legs and skates. Probably many of you thought it was a hard landing and that it caught him in a bad angle where the shoulder pads don't reach. Possibly the wind was knocked out of him and when medical trainer Jim Ramsey got to him fast to see how he was. After a few brief minutes talking to Jim Ramsey, Del Zotto was able to get up on and skate off on his own power. But when the close up shot was directed, we all saw that it was a lot worse than originally thought.

Michael Del Zotto's jersey had blood on his left side just abovehis hockey pants and below the shoulder pads. Thankfully he was able to get treatment inside the trainers room and an amazingly fifty stitches were used to close up that nasty gash he suffered. Thankfully a major nerve or artery wasn't severed and the injury wasn't that serious. But what would've happened if Del Zotto did bleed to death on the Mellon Arena Ice? This is where I blame the NHL and Reebok for creating these new form fitting & sweat resistant jerseys that are suppose to help enhance the performence on the ice. The material is so disgustingly thin it's so amazing that with today's NHL there hasn't been more skate blade slicing incidents on the ice.

The third NHL season after the lockout is when these new jerseys were first warn and I had the ability to visit a friend that worked in Gerry Cosby's. I felt the material and I was disgusted. I couldn't believe that the league would force the players to wear these new hockey jerseys. I might be considered a throwback kinda guy, but I believe that real tradition should return to the NHL. Wooden Sticks, Throw out the instigator rule, and bring back the real hockey jerseys (no not the old sweaters) that makes the game so great.
