My name is Sean, I am 25 years old and reside in (be-a-utiful) Upstate New York.
In a way I guess am a football fan who prefers the Steelers, which may be why I have an odd perspective at times. But make no mistake, I am a Steelers fan first and foremost. There is no other organization in sports like the Steelers and from top to bottom, there is nothing to dislike about the Black and Gold.

"They are two great ones. They were here before me, they were here first, they made names for themselves. They are great players and they're great mentors. Just to be a part of this Steelers linebacker lineage is an honor. My time will come."
#steelers player rep Ryan Clark doubts CBA will be ratified in time for those vets not practicing to join teams thursday
Possible Veteran RG Addition?
His salary last year was a reasonably modest $3.5 million. He's still a good player and has always been a leader in KC.
PFF ranks him among the top pass blocking guards in the game the last few years, aswell as last year.
He is certainly slowing down now, but he performed well last year, and would be a quality addition to the Steelers line at what could be their biggest hole, right guard.
I like Ramon Foster's progression, and upside, but for a shorter term contract, he'd be a great player and a true professional to learn from.
Chris Chase Nails This One.
One of my least favorite people in sports, once again, doing what he does best... making it up as he goes along. Sometimes when you make enough excuses for people, when you speak out against something another player has done you make yourself into a hypocrite.
This, my friends, is one of those times.
Fifth Down: Top Ten Inside Linebackers in the NFL
"The most explosive, athletic inside linebacker in football. A much, much better blitzer than his sack numbers suggest."
Who is this, you ask? You know you know, I know you know. He's also the youngest linebacker on this list, which is just one more thing he has going for him.
Steelers coaches are interested in Burress depends on the price. They would release Randle El to make room.
Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yeah, he is.
Brian Cashman, to the NY Post.
Obvious guy seems, well, rather obvious. But there is sound reasoning as to why Cervelli is still behind the plate while Martin is resting his back.
Hines Ward Talks Best Receivers In The Game Today
In an offseason where it seems the only actual football related buzz has been created by player rankings and top ten lists, Hines Ward and the NFL Network give you... a top ten list. The Top Ten Receivers in Football, according to Hines Ward was unveiled on the NFL Network. It is viewable on NFL.com, or skip it if you choose to save yourself from listening to Jamie Dukes and Warren Sapp continually talk over Hines.
One of the most well rounded players at any position in football, Hines' take on the top playmakers at his own position is hard to overlook. His knowledge of the position, and his ability to recognize talent and take part in grooming it in Pittsburgh is well known by Steelers fans everywhere. He's played a big role in the development of Mike Wallace and Santonio Holmes, both were taken under his wing after being drafted by the Steelers out of Ole Miss and The Ohio State respectively.
Willie Colon, The Best Pass Blocking Tackle in Football
Wow... I guess?
I think many of us have come around on Willie's play in the last few seasons, but I didn't expect this.
Also listed are the guards and centers. Chris Kemoeatu ranks as the worst guard over the same time span, and former Steeler Justin Hartwig ranks as the worst center.
Converting Corners To Safeties
Len Pasquarelli's take on converting a cornerback into a safety, which is something that's been discussed here in the past, mainly in reference to Keenan Lewis.
PG+: Polamalu's Rehab Is Going Well, He Should Be Ready For Training Camp
"Polamalu is receiving treatment and doing rehabilitation in Los Angeles under the care of an orthopedic surgeon who is friendly with the Steelers medical staff. He does not need surgery, which is the good news. The injury is healing on its own -- with the help of therapy, of course -- and he is progressing on schedule."
Great news from Gerry Dulac of PG+.
That's What They Said: The Triumphant Return of a Moderately Interesting Series
It's been a while, how you been? Good to hear it.
Former Steelers guard Alan Faneca looking back on his Superbowl XL win with Pittsburgh. Faneca retired after an all-time great 13 year career, ten of which were spent manning the left side of the Steelers offensive line. Mostly at guard, but the article reminded me he played left tackle for part of the 2003 season, one of many Pro Bowl seasons for the 26th overall pick in the 1998 draft out of LSU.
OPinion: Less Carries, More Catches For Mendenhall
The Steelers have always been known as a running team, but that image has slowly grown less and less accurate as Ben Roethlisberger enters his prime. Like any team would do with a player the calibre of Ben, more and more plays over the course of a game were put into his hands, and the passing game is what began to carry the offense. A struggling offensive line and Willie Parker's wheels falling off certainly assisted in the ratio shift as well. In 2008 Rashard Mendenhall was drafted 23rd overall to help balance the scales. While the passing and rushing attempts were much closer to even last year as opposed to seasons past, it can be argued that we're still not getting maximum production out of the backfield that we could.

The Steelers Linebacker Situation: Taking It One Year At a Time
The Blitzburgh image was built around the play of great linebackers under the masterful command of defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. Greg Lloyd, Kevin Green, Levon Kirkland and Chad Brown were the earliest manifestation of the organized chaos known as the zone blitz, and after many years of outstanding linebacker play in the Black and Gold it appears that going in to next season the Steelers may be in a procarious position with their current Blitzburgh group. Between contract situations and mother nature taking it's course, the front office has some decisions to make between now and next offseason.
The last few seasons Steelers fans have been fortunate enough to bare witness to some of the best linebacking play we've seen since the original Steel Curtain of the 1970's. Still under the command of the man who brought Blitzburgh to the forefront in the 1990's, Dick LeBeau, the on field names may change, but the end product has always been a constant. With the assistence of his player general James Farrior; James Harrison, LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons have all been outstanding playmakers on the defensive side of the ball.
Looking for a little help Jets fans
I'm working on an article on Steelers free agency, and I was just looking for some info on James Farrior's time in New York early in his career. I'm just wondering if anyone remembers the reasons Farrior wasn't re-signed in 2001, which led to him coming to Pittsburgh.
No trolling here, honestly just looking for some info. I appreciate any help I can get, thanks.
Former Steelers All-Pro Lineman Alan Faneca to Retire
Faneca was the heart and soul of Bill Cowher's great ground game in Pittsburgh for 10 years prior to moving on after one year under HC Mike Tomlin. He spent two seasons in New York with the Jets, and one season with the "Steelers West" in Arizona.
Faneca went to 9 straight Pro Bowls with Pittsburgh and New York (2001-2009), and was named an All Pro six times. He helped pave the way for Willie Parker's memorable record setting touchdown in Super Bowl XL, a game the Steelers went on to win in 2005 making him a Superbowl Champion on top of all of his personal accolades.
Good luck in the next phase of your life Alan, we wish you and your family all the best in the future.
Rookies Select Their Jersey Numbers
So, according to the Steelers official website, the Steelers rookie class has selected their jersey numbers for the upcoming season. To some this is larger news than to others, but at least now you'll know what new jerseys to run out and grab.
Cameron Heyward - 95
Marcus Gilbert - 65
Curtis Brown - 40
Cortez Allen - 39
Chris Carter - 54
Keith Williams - 62
Baron Batch - 35
Of course, these may change after football starts, but for now this is just the first step in what we can only hope to be their long careers in Black and Gold.
BTSC 2011 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 60: New England Patriots Select Ras I Dowling, CB, VIrginia
Thanks to NYSteelersFan for taking care of this pick while I was out. Next up: The San Diego Chargers, represented by J Lee. - Michael B. -
**********
The Patriots continue their (in my humble opinion) great draft, and select corner Ras I Dowling from the University of Virginia 60th overall. Last year's first round pick, Devin McCourty, absolutely dazzled in his first year, collecting 7 interceptions, 17 deflected passes, and forcing two fumbles. Now they look to bolster their cornerback depth, as well as find a potential #2 to play opposite McCourty for years to come.
Ras I's coverage abilities combined with his size and experience make him a great pick for the Patriots. He can come in and play the slot behind Bodden and McCourty, and assuming he shows the abilities he showed for his first few years at Virginia, he may be able to allow the Patriots to get out from under Bodden's contract in time if the Pats choose to (something they have done in the past with corners). If the draft were to play out like this, the Patriots will debate this corner pick between Johnny Patrick and Doowling, and in my opinion will choose Dowling's potential for injury concerns over Patrick's potenial for off the field problems. Though neither is a huge concern to me, Patrick's worry me only a bit more given the circumstances. Plus, in terms of measurables, Dowling beats out Patrick in almost all categories as well.
Janoris Jenkins and the Supplemental Draft
With news today that Jenkins has left the Florida program, chances are he may enter the supplemental draft (if he is elgible). This coming after his second marijuana related arrest.
What round pick would you give up to get Jenkins if you're interested at all?
For discussion's sake, if Terrell Pryor were to also enter the supplemental (even less likely than Jenkins), would he be of interest to you at all?
Lynne Chandnois 1925-2011
The former Steelers special teams standout, and two time Pro-Bowler, passed away on Tuesday at age 86.
The Steelers first round draft pick in 1950 (8th overall) was a return ace, and his 29.6 yard career average on returns ranks second all time in NFL history. Chandois made Pro-Bowls in 1952 and 1953, and was a two way star at Michigan State University, after spending two years in the Naval Air Corps.
Said Dan Rooney:
"Lynn was one of our great players from the past. He was a really good person and a better player than anyone ever gave him credit for being. He is one of those special players that we will always remember."
The collective thoughts and prayers of Steelers Nation go out to the family of Lynne Chandois in their time of sadness.
BTSC 2011 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 33 -- New England PatriotsSelect Cam Heyward, DE, Ohio State
The first pick of the second round is in thanks to NYSteelersFan4. A logical choice no doubt, particularly since we had the Pats taking two offensive linemen in the opening round. Next up: the Buffalo Bills, represented by Steeler_. - Michael B. -
************
"I’m hoping I have a little bit of pressure behind me because I want to perform well," Heyward said. "I wouldn’t have it any other way. If guys are expecting a lot out of me, so be it, because I’m a guy that’s going to produce and give it all I got." – Cameron Heyward
After effectively bolstering their offensive line by drafting Gabe Carimi and Mike Pouncey, the Patriots now turn to their young defense by drafting Cam Heyward, a DE/ DT from THE Ohio State University.
Cam Heyward -- DE -- Ohio State Univerity
Height: 6’5"
Weight: 295 lbs.

BTSC 2011 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 17 -- New England Patriots Select Gabe Carimi, OL, Wisconsin
Next up: the San Diego Chargers, represented by J Lee
****************
With the 17th overall pick in the New England Patriots look to bolster their offensive line, and protect Tom Brady (clearly in hopes of seeing more of these sweet dance moves). While they could possibly go defensive end or outside-linebacker, the depth of their offensive line needs to be bolstered, and Carimi offers the ability to play tackle or kick in to play guard if that is where they need him. He comes into the NFL with all the polish that you would expect from an Outland Award winning linemen and Consensus All-American and the size and attitude that you dream about having (6'7" / 315 lbs.). He's a smart player, who is agile for his size and delivers a strong pop to go along with good length and wingspan that will hold you at bay and quickly put you on the ground.
Sadly, no one will ever play on this field in the NFL. I don't totally dislike this actually, what about actual Ravens' fans?
Rare Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Video
The video was found in a basement in Illinois. It's interesting just to see the video, as it shows each player in a more relaxed setting than most baseball fans would see, if you are fortunate enough to have viewed any video of either player what so ever.
Pats Pulpit Mock Draft
I ended up drafting Cameron Heyward, with the intention of coming back to the secondary in round two (and even though they don't go past round two, I would double dip in the DB pool if it was my draft).
With how this mock went, he was BPA in my book. Thoughtages?
LaMarr Woodley is an Efficient Pass Rusher
According to Pro Football Focus, Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley ranks second among 3-4 OLB's in pass rush efficiency, and fifth among all edge rushers in the NFL.
Their formula is explained in more depth if you click the link.
Nate Solder absolutely flattens this guy.
Solder can pull to his right and deliver some pop, to a 37 year old, but still.
Possible RT prospect?
Pat White?
Pat White came out before the draft two years ago and stated he was a Steelers fan growing up. After being drafted by Miami as a QB, White struggled, only to be released and leave football for baseball, another sport he had been drafted in despite not playing it since High School.
White is clearly a talented athlete, as evident by his time spent in two professional sports leagues, and something he displayed for four years at West Virginia.
Now, White will likely never get a shot as a QB in the NFL again, but, is his raw ability as intriguing to any of you as it is to me? As a WR, he could play a Randle El or Brad Smith type role, and he hasn't been just sitting around since his release from Miami, so he isn't expected to be in terrible shape at this point.
Anybody interested in taking a flyer on a guy with versatility, athleticism and potential, even if it's just as a practice squad player at first?
Something We All Kind Of Already Knew
During the playoffs Troy Polamalu had not yet fully recovered from the achilles injury he suffered during his amazing TD return against Cincy week 14.
No surgery is required however.
