I'm in the middle of a mock draft. I've drafted so far DE Brandon Graham, OLB Dekota Watson, and OG Marshall Newhouse.  I'm in the 5th round and have traded down to 5.22 to get an extra 7th rounder.  Who do you think I should  take with the 5th round pick..?  What area of need needs to be addresses the most next.  I do plan to take a K in the 6th round.

We all have our ideas as to why our defense played so horrible on Monday night.  Wither you think it's recruiting in 06-07, bad scheme/coaching, or that UM has a stud OL that can pass protect forever (dripping sarcasm there), most of us can agree that our defense is bad.  We're not just going to forfeit all our games until next year's recruiting class, so what can be done this year with our current roster to help us stay in games..?

I have some thoughts to throw out there about a college playoff system. A D-1 college playoff tourney would need to be similar to other contemporary playoff tourneys. I'm concerned about the number of teams you'd need to make it fair.  I'm going by memory here, but I believe there are 347 D-1 schools playing basketball.  Of those, 65 are invited to the tourney.  That's a little less than 19%.  The NFL takes the top 12 teams, or about 35%.  The most fair way IMHO would be a 20 team playoff where the top four seeds got a bye in the first round.  That would be a little less that 20% of the 112 playing FBS D-1 football.  Under that idea, you'd have those 2 championship teams playing an extra 5 weeks of football, possibly with a bye if one of those teams were one of the top 4 seeds.  The championship game wouldn't be played until mid Jan, long after most colleges were back from winter break.  I don't know if it's right to ask these kids to play that long.  What do you think?

Other schools not playing have more time for recruiting.  You think that being the the playoff would give you an edge, but it gives time for the coaches at other schools more face time with recruits.  Do you wanna watch a school that doesn't make the tourney or gets knocked out early spending time with recruits on the fence with your school?  You might ask why a team in the tourney can't be out there also.  That's almost impossible with just a week before another game to get practice in and coaches out into kid's homes.  This might ensure more parody in college football.  Who knows?

How would money be distributed back to the schools?  A shortcut to this would be using existing bowls to host this game.  What do you do with the other bowls?  Fans enjoy seeing their teams playing, even if it's a meaningless game.  If you give control of the playoff tourney to the networks, how would that work?  Money needs to make it's way back to all the conferences.  In a playoff system, you might have some conferences that don't even get invited.  If might give conference champs an auto invite, but then it's open game.  If one or two conferences put in multiple teams, do they get bigger cuts?

There are other questions too.  Can you still play FCS teams?  What polls do you use to place teams in the tourney?  The Harris poll is a joke.  Should a conference team ranked outside the top 20 still be allowed in?  The list goes on...
