The Dreaded CBS Viewing Schedule
I was looking up to make sure our Chiefs game would be on TV this weekend. I missed last weekends game due to traveling. I did, however, catch the final minute in the fourth and OT. So as you can tell I must see more. The only problem is we play a 3PM game and CBS isn't pulling the double header this week! Who gets to view the game then? I live 3 and half hours away from kC and they are not listed to be showing a game. Do we now need Sunday Ticket to wach our favorite team even when they are the closest and ONLY GAME ON!
Just needed to vent. The Raiders game was a important game to win. This Denver game is more important than others due to being a division game. The division seems tougher each week and winning the West seems more difficult week after week.
The Decision for FG at the end
Now I simply loved the call on 4th and 4 to go for the 51 yard field goal. Though the call was questionable. We needed a field goal and touchdown to bring it to overtime. The first thing that popped into my mind was that after we make it (which we didn't) this would give our offense time to discuss what methods would be used to score after the onside. Our offense lacked hussle on the last drive. It was not a hurry up by any means. Just because you don't huddle up doesn't mean its a hurry up. They were not getting to the line quick. This may have played a part in going for the field goal.
Side Note... Chiefs were a 7.5 to 8 point underdog to the colts. If we would have made that field goal the spread would have been covered. I hope it didn't play a factor and I'm sure it didn't, but could it have played a part as well?
Naked's 2 rounder
The Key to our defensive success
I have been pondering all season in how we are going to aquire the most important part of a 3-4 defense. That man is the Nose Tackle. A dominant nose tackle will take your defense much farther than an inside linebacker, safety, or outside linebacker. He does this by taking up more blockers than Ron Edwards did this previous season. When he takes up more blockers that makes everyones job just that much easier. Jamaal Williams helped prove this point as the Chargers were not the same team without him.
Some FA to watch
We cant go the draft without drafting...
Someone to fill in for these guards in a couple years. Most want a new center. This is probably the deepest center draft I've ever seen. I'm ok with Niswanger but we can draft a new center. Then move Niswanger to reserve and maybe he'll be a starter once Goff or Waters are gone.
Two Gs I'm liking in later rounds are Trevor Canfield out of Cincy. He is predicted a 3rd rounder. I'm also likin Louis Vasquez. Predicted 4th. Also a Marlon Davis out of Bama. Predicted 7th rounder.
We need someone to back up these old guards and take over there spot when they are finished. What do you guys think?
Another pointless mock filled with hopes
I thought I'd see what you guys think. I was sitting in class bored on the net and these are the guys I came up with our current picks.
Rd1 LB A. Curry or a LT E. Monroe. If Curry is gone (doubtful) then we'd have to go to Monroe. I like Monroe over Smith. And it would add to our latest tradtion. Tamba Hali (Penn ST) Larry Johnson (Penn ST) Dwayne Bowe(LSU) Glenn Dorsey(LSU) Branden Albert(Virginia).
Rd3 DE P. Kruger. We are showing interest and I think people like him here. Has a good motor but is old. He's a fighter check out his bio on www.nfl.com He'd be a great sucess story
Rd 4 C A. Caldwell be a good fit since we play in a division with 3 3-4s. He's big and was apart of one of the greatest college O'Lines in recent years
RD 5 RT A. Boone. Big but has some issues of not playing through the play. He did a great job against a possible Top 5 pick in Brian Orakpo
RD6 DT M. Pryer Possible NT for us in the future
RD7 OG M. Davis Part of that Bama O'Line underated IMO
RD7 ILB B Chrispoter Local guy. Think he would be a 3-4 guy. Need another LB to replace Vrabes or Thomas someday soon.
What do you guys think? Every1 is reachable I believe. Looked at walterfootball for his player projections.
Are we talking to any FA?
I know we want to be discret about everything possible. But has anyone heard of us talking to anyone? The time for the 2nd tier FA is here. Theres still plenty of talent out there young and old. Guys I wouldn't mind seeing us atleast talk to
1. Ray Willis OT 4 seasons
2. Igor Orlansky DE 4 seasons
3. Marc Columbo OT 7 seasons
4. Jake Groove C 5 seasons
5. Eric Barton ILB 10 seasons
6. Devery Henderson WR 4 seasons
Those are my top 6. Probably still pretty highly sought after guys. I also have Mike Goff and Tra Thomas both are 11 seasons in. Got to improve that OL so then make drafting Curry even easier to do.
With the 3-4 coming
We all figure it to be part of our next season adventures. I was wondering what the LB corps is goin to look like and who our coaches are going to be. Pendergast and Gibbs are both fired D Cordinators. Both have history as a LB coach. And nothing more. If we bring Romeo in do we give the LB coach to both of them or what?
Then with the LB corp. What would DJ be in our 3-4. We will have Vrabel which can play Lolb and inside. Then if we could draft curry they say he would be an OLB. So what does this mean for the outlook of our group? Who knows who the other LB could be.
Who's our D. Coordinator Going To Be?
I'm wondering on how we plan to get good players in free agency. Players that are good people and fit our system. When we don't even know what our system is. By what we have on the roster I think Clancy Pendergast will be the D coordinator and we will run his hybrid 3-4 until the pieces are in place some 3 years from now. Alot of people still hope for Romeo.
Peppers gets even more unlikely
The number 1 guy for most of our chiefs fans just got even more untouchable. In this article it is stated why we wont be seeing peppers in our chiefs uniforms.
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/02/18/sports/FBN-Panthers-Peppers.php
Unless of course that one team would be us. Doubftul though. Then even if he isn't franchised and traded why would we go somewhere other than those 4 teams if he could go to any 31 teams.
Is it really gonna happen?
The chiefs are being quiet about this one. The way the news is sounding it sounds like we are going to get the number one wanted man in football right now. I was just wondering if everyone thinks our greatest dreams are finally gonna come true with getting Pioli.
Coming from his resume he's a winner and that's what we need around here. So I really hope we get this guy. And I think we're gonna get him.
The Rookies
I know that having so many rookies on your team. Atleast one or two of them are going to show good signs. I'd say our corners including Maurice Legget have looked pretty darn good. We must have a good D Back coach. Or it may actually be Herm. I was just wondering who you guys think are the stand out rookies. And who the failures are. There is still time for some of them to become dominant. Hopefully I'm talking about Glenn Dorsey there.
2009 offseason
I know it's alot of reading but I can't stop thinking about the offseason. I wanna see what you guys think we should do. And see what you think of my ideas. It's hard to predict anything
There are alot of needs to our Kansas City Chiefs team. Most of us look forward to the draft. I can not come between what we should take and when. Our biggest needs IMO are ILB, DE, and still QB. Thigpen has been amazing. But you can never go wrong with putting some stock in at QB. We dont need to use a 1st round on qb. We can also look to the Free Agent pool.
At QB we will be lookin for someone young. Thats why we will probably go to the draft for that. Maybe a Harrell from TTU in say the 3rd. But in free agents Matt Cassle could leave New England. What ever happended to JP Losman as he is a free agent too.
At RB we are fine. Unless we could trade the beloved LJ for some picks. Which I would be for at this point he just doesn't seem to care about the team anymore. But Darren Sproles is a free agent. They let Michael Turner go so why wouldn't they let Sproles. He would be an awesome assett to our special teams. But talking RB in the Draft doubtful.
WR unless we could get a name like TJ Housenmezdah or Devery Henderson we are set with Mark Bradley it looks like. Once again no Draft there
TE we are set.unless of course Tony G gets traded for some picks. If this were to happen I'd look to the draft for another TE to play alongside Brad Cottam. Mizz TE Chase Coffman could be the next Tony G. He doesn't have the build as Tony G but he has the hands.
OL we need some big aquistion here. I would use a 1st round pick on a Tackle to replace Sackintosh. That pick would be Andre Smith. The man is amazing he has played since his freshmen year and he hasn't slowed down. Just got better. I would like this to be our first pick in the draft if a free agent isn't picked up. Someone like Jordan Gross would look good in a KC uniform.
DL we need something here too. The DE needs to be improved. Terrell Suggs is going to be a free agent. The Ravens have Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Dawan Landry, and Bart Scott's contracts coming up. I think that they will let Terrell go. Here's where we come in a take him. We're going to have a lot of money to spend might as well get one of the more versatile DE's in the league. Also Julius Peppers is going to be a free agent. Carolina will likely not let him loose. But if it happens Kansas City should not hesitate one bit. If neither of these players are picked up. The draft is where we will look. There are many good DE's coming out this year. Many mocks having the Chiefs taking Michael Johnson out of Gerogia Tech. I think that would be a bad choice just from he hasn't proved that he's that good. If we look to the draft for a DE. First round choice has to be Brian Orakpo. He is a physical freak. Awesome pass rush and a good run defender. That would be an awesome D Line. Brian Orakpo, Glenn Dorsey, Tank Tyler, and Tamba Hali. Awesome. But if we use a first round pick on a Tackle like Andre Smith. The 2nd round will have players too. Hopefully Greg Hardy will still be on the board.
LB another huge need for the Kansas City Chiefs. The name that sticks out most in free agency is Jonathan Vilma. I think he should be the number 1 free agent that Kansas City wants. Doubtful that the Saints who have had him just a year will let him go. But he would be the best player for the Chiefs to get. The New York Jets let Vilma go last year. And could let Eric Barton go this year. He would also be a good pick up for the Chiefs. Karlos Dansby would be someone to look at. There are a good amount of LB hitting free agency this year and the Chiefs should pick up one. If not that's going to make the draft a hard one. There is no ILB that sticks out enough to pick him in the top 5 of the draft. Laurinatis and Mauluga are who I am talking about. They both will be gone by the 2nd round probably. So in the 3rd round Danelle Ellerbee would be a good player to get.
DB we are actually looking pretty good. Another Corner would not hurt at all. We got two awesome young safties hopefully we will sign Jerrad Page for a couple more years. We have two amazing young corners in the Brandons. We are finally set at starters. We may need to pick up a Nickle or a Dime Corner though. Defitnetly look to free agency for that. The draft will need to fill up to many other spots than Corner. Someone like Dunta Robinson from the Texans or Allen Rossum would be a good addition to the Brandons. Maurice Legget has looked ok. But nothing special.
Overall us Chiefs fans are going to have a crazy offseason. I think that they'll make us happy by spending some money on a big name free agent. Maybe even too. If we fill our 3 big needs. Right Tackle, DE, and ILB this season we will grow alot. We also need something new at RG and maybe even C. We will need to take care of atleast one of the big 3 positions to have a good draft. I'd say ILB should be addressed in free agency. There is alot of players to be taken. DE should probably be in the draft and Right Tackle is either. Be nice to have a 3rd rounder for a "system" qb that we can mold.
