Who is your favorite Cub?

With yesterday “revelations” regarding Sosa I have read many posters here on BCB talking about how crushed they are because Sammy was their hero and the main reason why they started following the Cubs in the first place.  I think Al has done a very nice job on several occasions of explaining the paradox that was/is Sammy’s relationship with Cub fans.  For me, yeah, I soaked up the 1998 season along with the rest of the baseball world because we needed it following the debacle that was 1994 and the disgruntled feelings that followed.  The 1998 season is probably why I still need my daily Cubs fix today.  But honestly, Sammy was never a favorite…he was more like a carnival show you had to watch because you wanted to see something amazing.

I am sure this is generational, but believe it or not, I got “hooked” on the Cubs and baseball in general watching Dave “King Kong” Kingman, Bruce Sutter, Bill Buckner, etc..  Since then many others have come along that have bumped Kong and the others down on my list, including Ryno.  Grace, Maddox, Wood, have all been fantastic and made me get emotional about our Cubs, but for me, Ryno is still my all-time favorite.

This is not about who is “the best” like Al’s top 100, but the recent Sammy comments have made me wonder, BCB Nation, who is your favorite all-time Cub?

OT: Cubs kids Clothes

Can anyone recommend a good site to purchase childrens Cubs clothing?  I always get my Son a couple pieces of Cubs clothing for x-mas, but he is a weird "pre-school" size right now.  Youth sizes are too big and toddler (4T's) are too small.  My Wife tells me there are straights "4" and "5" (without the "T") in "normal" clothes.  Apparently, team clothing is not considered normal by my Wife or most retailers I have found on-line because I can't find any.  Any help or guidance would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Is Being A Cub Fan Worth The Price?

I love this game and I have loved this team for as long as my 37 year old brain will let me remember, but I am really wondering right now if it is worth it.

I am sure like most of you, you log onto this site and check most media sources every day of the winter to see what the team is doing. Every February I start to get caught up in the fever of the season again, and I probably will again next year as well.  Every day of the season the feeling grows.  When our Cubs do well, the excitment and enthusiasm builds...the thought of participating in exciting October baseball!  You make time to check scores, read the articles, discuss with friends, listen to Pat and Ron in the car, watch as many games as possible and make an event out of our team being on ESPN, etc...

And every fall I have to remind myself that this is just a game, and I remind myself of what is really important...kids, family, etc..

The Cubs have always been a connection to family, memories, and a big part of life for me, but I really think I get too caught up in "this" and really wonder if it is worth it.

My mind is already start to think about 2009 a little, but I big part of me says to stop.  Is it worth the time and energy?

Suffering Cub fan wishing I could watch them play game 4 tonight...

Vote For Soto!

How great would it be to see Geo starting at Catcher for the National League in the Mid-Summer Classic?

Offensively, he's been the best at this position in the League up to this point.  Fourth in the League in OPS, Sixth in AVG, and leading all NL Catchers in every major offensive area.  Not to mention the fact that he seems mature beyond his years in working with the staff and calling games.

I'm not sure how well the rest of the League's fans know him so I think its up to us to vote, and vote often, on MLB.com.

Jim Hendry Trades

As  I watched D-Lee save yesterday's game for the Cubs yesterday in the bottom of the ninth I reflected back on what a rock he has been for us the past few years.  It also made me think about what a great trade Hendry made for him.  Think about it, D-Lee for Hee-Seop Choi!  What a steal!

Is this the best trade Hendry has pulled off for us?  I think it is, but I would be interested in seeing everyone else's opinion on his best trade and also his worst.

MLBTV

This has probably already been discussed and I missed it, but can someone tell me if the MLBTV.com services have chagned this year?  You used to be able to watch "condensed" games and highlights the same day as the game, and I have not been able to find those links for yesterday's game.  Am I missing them?

Thanks.  And lets rebound tomorrow!

Opening Day

Is anyone else going to Opening Day in Cincy?

I've landed four tickets 12 rows back of the Reds dugout.  Great seats, but wrong side of the field.  I am coming out of my skin waiting for the day to arrive.  I've never been to an Opening Day, and from what I hear Cincy organizes one of the best.

I know Bush was there last year to throw out the first pitch, has anyone heard who will be there this year?

I'm like a kid counting down the days and hours until Christmas morning!  Lets play ball.
