Great breakdown by Fangraphs of the Votto extension
I like those WAR projections, because I think the article is suggesting that the price per WAR is about to go way up.
SIS: Cincinnati Neighborhoods
Given that it's a slow time in between winter deals and pitchers and catchers, I thought I would crowd-source my house-hunting question. The general questions:
- What areas of Cincinnati are on the rise? What areas are on the decline?
- Where are good opportunities for bargains (i.e. homes with character, relatively safe neighborhoods, etc.)?
- Where in Cincinnati have you lived? How has it changed since first moving there?
- What areas do you recommend to friends moving to Cincinnati?
- Are the stereotypes of East Side/West Side true? Will they continue to be true 10, 20 years from now?
- Any thoughts/advice on house-hunting for my wife and I? More details after the jump...
Padres Trade for Carlos Quentin
Seems like the Reds could have come up with a similar offer of 2 B-prospects for a 1-year rental of a solid-hitting right-handed outfielder... (sigh)
Goin' to Miami
So, I believe I've had a stroke of genius. The Marlins are in a mood to overpay to get marquee talent that will boost attendance... moreover, they are in a mood to overpay for Latin talent to drive the local Miami market... and they want to get rid of Hanley Ramirez.
We have the fastest pitcher ever recorded, who also happens to be Cuban. You better believe he would put some butts in seats in Miami. Organizationally, we have had (and continue to have) no long-term strategy on how to develop Chapman which we have held to longer than a month or two. Today, he's a starter, tomorrow, he's a set-up man, and the next day, he's the closer. So, here's what I'm offering, we swap and they pay a substantial portion of Hanley's salary. We get a somewhat risky, high-ceiling SS and they get a somewhat-risky, high-ceiling pitcher.
BP Skipping Redsfest
Hopefully, BP grows up, because this is going to get old quick.
Elimination-mas imminent!
Our elimination number is 2. At least the fans will get to experience the event at home!
As Jay Bruce's Walk-Off HR became the defining memory of last year's team, what would be the most symbolic way for the 2011 Reds to lose this week to ensure they can all take a vacation to the Poconos in time for peak foilage?
Pujols Injured
So, it seems like it's not as significant as Bruce's injury almost two years ago, but it would seem that he could go on the DL leading up to the All-Star break and/or maybe impact his power numbers for the rest of the season.
You hate to see on of the best players of all time go down, but I think this could greatly impact the Reds' chances and what they do at the trade deadline.... what's everybody think?
Update:
Pujols Out 4-6 Weeks
Did the Cardinals just catch a lucky break in that Pujols' asking price might take a small (but important for St. Louis) hit?
Reds' Offense: Reignited and it feels so good. Reds win 11-2!
Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game
Ramon Hernandez - Clutch-Man Monie was a triple short of the cycle with a walk and 4 RBI. Honorable mentions go to Joey Votto who was 3 for 4 with a triple, Gomes with 2 HR's and another walk.

Pitchers and catchers report; preparing for Opening Day
Greetings all! I'm excited as we look to March 31st. There are a few things I thought would be fun to discuss as we look forward to showing up to GABP.
Greinke Addition Boosts Season Ticket Sales
Espn story... Hard to believe that cash was the deciding factor in not making a deal happen for Greinke... 1,500 season tickets sold * at least $2,000 in average revenue (Ticket price, parking, food, beer, etc.) = $3 million.
SIS - Beers & Cigars
I am getting married in about a week and need to put together a gift for my groomsmen and ushers. Everyone is a Buckeye alum or fan, so I'm getting a nice OSU bucket and beer mug. I also want to throw 3 good beers and possibly a cigar. I want a good variety of beers that most people will enjoy that are not ridiculously expensive (i.e. no belgian abbey beers). So, I figure this is as good a place as any to do a little beer polling.
Cincinnati Reds Hit Ratings Homer
This may have already been listed on the Reposter a while ago, so feel free to remove if you deem necessary. Confirms what I thought that people were waiting to put their money down until they felt they had a bonified contender.
It also should mean that Banana Bob knows that a winning team means a team that will generate more revenue in the years to come. The Reds fanbase is much better than the Marlins!
Potential Starting Pitching Trade Candidates
I wanted to provide a deep statistical analysis which didn't use any bias based on who's available for a trade, who will trade with us, etc., but just dont have the time or sabermetric skills to pull it off right now. I think it still should be interesting to hear what people have to think of the listing that I have put together.
Basically, I took the teams most likely to be sellers at the trade deadline (25% or less probability of making the playoffs as of today on Baseball Prospectus). I then looked up the Starting Rotations according to ESPN.
The next steps that I was going to do was to put the year that the player was under contract until and provide some type of statistic to evaluate their performance. I apologize for my laziness here, but if nothing else, it provides a complete view of any potential trades and maybe show us the dark corners of the league that Walt is currently perusing while everyone else is trying to sell their children to get a Cliff Lee rental.
