No specifics on what he tested positive for, but speculation is that it's marijuana. If this report is true, I'd certainly expect this to cause him to fall pretty significantly with his past history of problems (i.e. missing his junior year due to academic problems).

Thought this was some good insight into Andra Davis. He's saying the right things, hopefully he steps up his play this year and makes it an easy decision about whether to resign him or not.

The Mariners released Sexson today. I think we should sign him for the half season to make sure he's wearing a Tribe hat when he goes into the Hall of Fame.

Cubs Spring Training Injuries

So I logged onto MLB.com because I'm bored and wanted to see the time for the game today and read the article Soriano suffers fractured finger (he's only out 3-5 days).  Anyway, at the end of the article they list all the spring training injuries so far:

The Cubs have had a variety of injuries this spring. So far, infielder Mark DeRosa was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat, pitcher Jose Ascanio had a bruised face after getting punched in a robbery attempt, and outfielder Felix Pie missed a couple of days early because of a twisted testicle.

What is going on in Cubs spring training?

QB of the future?

Plain Dealer reports today that Savage is planning on at least giving Derek Anderson the highest contract tender this offseason (link).  It also, however, talks about how they haven't ruled out signing him to a long term contract.  I was just curious what people thought.  Do we sign DA to a contract, or take the draft picks (assuming someone picks him up) and go with BQ next year?

I personally would lean towards giving DA the highest tender, taking the draft picks and going with Brady Quinn.  Obviously he's not a sure thing, but with the strength of the pieces on offense, I think there wouldn't be too much pressure on him to try and make all the plays on his own.  I'd imagine that they will try and get him some playing time in the next few weeks to find out how he does.

Incidentally, how ironic would it be if we get someone else's 1st round draft choice for Anderson and it's higher than the one we gave up to Dallas?

Most disliked team?

Reading about Scott Podsednik's fielding folly in the diary below and more specifically the comments that others have made got me thinking (dangerous, I know).  I'm just curious which team the majority of us dislike the most.

We obviously don't have a dominating rivalry of the Yankees/Red Sox, Steelers/Browns, or Michigan/Ohio State caliber. For all pragamatic purposes, I suppose our "rival" should be either all the other AL Central teams, or simply the best team, but I know I'm not always that calculating.

I know that, whether its rational or not, I absolutely despise the White Sox.  Whether it's AJ Pierzynski, their friggin announcers, Ozzie Guillen, or just the chip on their shoulder that they have by "not being Cubs fans", I don't know.

Anyway, I was just curious what other people's opinions were.

Sausage Race Predictions

Atention Race Enthusiasts!!  Miller Park is having three BONUS sausage races this week.  Season results along with more detailed bios are posted here.

For those of you who are too lazy to click the link, here are some brief intros:

#1, Brett Wurst is a bratwurst and wears green Austro-Bavarian lederhosen.
#2, Staush is a Polish sausage and wears dark sunglasses and a blue and red rugby shirt.
#3, Guido is an Italian sausage and wears a chef's outfit.
#4, Frankie Furter is a hot dog and wears a baseball uniform.
#5, El Picante is a chorizo and wears a sombrero.

Feel free to make your predictions for the winners below.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find Vegas odds for the races.

If you can't wait until tonight's race, you can play the Racing Sausage game here

P.S.  Supposedly they will be organizing some baseball games to go along with these races.  Unfortunately, I don't have a link to confirm this rumor.
