Gobbler Country Expect More Throwback Jerseys for Virginia Tech in 2010

[Ed. Note: Bumped from FanPosts. Don't know where Nat is getting his info, but I think this is a wonderful thing if it's true.]

Looks like we will be switching to throwbacks full time for the 2010 season. Not a bad move, as i really didn't care for our 08' 09' jerseys. The jerseys from the Georgia Tech game last year are what you'll see in Lane Stadium in 2010.

Gobbler Country Pray for Frank Beamer's Wife, Cheryl

[Ed. Note: Bumped from FanPosts]

She was recently injured in a fall at their lake house in Georgia. She was holding Shane's new baby and got tripped up by either the dog or the other child in the room (no one is really sure, as Shane and his wife were in the other room). She basically saved the baby and sacrificed her body by taking the full force of the fall onto the hardwood floor with absolutely no way to brace herself. Here are her injuries:

  • Broken femur in one leg (completely broken, clean break) Hairline fracture in the other.
  • 7 broken ribs
  • Broken collar bone
  • Hurt her shoulder fairly bad as well.

She was taken to the big hospital in Athens and underwent surgery. She had rods placed in both legs and is expected to be in the hospital until Sunday.

Georgia Coach Mark Richt and his wife were among the visitors to the hospital that day after hearing the news.

Cheryl is in good spirits and was even apologizing to her daughter in law being as they had a "girls" trip scheduled for the upcoming week in which they can obviously no longer attend.

Basically, what this tells us is that
they dominate their conference, which is very, very weak with the
exception of Fresno every once in a blue Moon and Hawaii for 2 years
with Colt Brennan,

don't schedule jack OOC (at least one FCS opponent every year and
only 9 games vs Big 6 [4 were bowls]),

are average against the Big 6,

aren't great when coming east to play Big 6 teams,

are average against ranked opponents,

put up good defensive numbers against poor offenses,

put up great offensive numbers against horrible defenses,

and are average against top 30 defenses.

Gobbler Country Cody Grimm leads the nation in forced fumbles

[Ed. Note: Bumped]

Enough can't be said about this kid, he is special. He defines Hokie football. We don't get all the best recruits, but we always play hard and do our best to contend with the big boys, and do it quite well. From a former walk-on to arguably the most consistent and hardest working/ biggest heart player on the team, wow, this guy has a knack for the football. He leads the nation with 7 forced fumbles, in 11 games, that is averaging over half a fumble per game (.64)! I don't know if the average fan realizes how much we will miss this young man next year. Fosters defense is finishing strong, now #13 in the nation. I am sure he has a more athletic, bigger, faster, stronger, and more capable player to replace Cody at Whip, but i don't know if we will ever see someone, pound for pound, like Cody again. To be given the kind of performance we have been blessed with this year makes me even more proud to be a Hokie.

Gobbler Country New Nike Pro Combat Jerseys (PIC)

Had the unveiling on campus today. Here is a pic with tyrod in uniforms, then another pic from Nike.

Here is a quote from JEHokie who was there...

"It was much more of shindig than I was expecting. Roth hosted it, and
CFB was there along with Antonio Freeman, Bruce Smith, and some high
ranking Nike guy. They all talked about VT's relationship with Nike,
and then Tyrod and Cody came out wearing the new uni's. They
definitely look better on actually people, but I'm still not a huge
fan. Apparently the concept behind the all white was to contrast the
blackout that MD is doing for the game, so I guess that make sense.
Also, the Nike guy mentioned that he knew the players loved the
throwbacks, so hopefully that sticks."

Gobbler Country Hokies to present Herzlich with check.

Everyone knows of the struggle Mark Herzlich has endured with cancer. It is stories like this that put football in perspective. The reigning ACC defensive player of the year was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that typically affects young men. This weekend Darren Evans is to present Mark with a check for $9494.94 (#94 is his number) which was raised by the team selling 1$ wristbands for the past few weeks.

It's ironic that we will not see the two best players from last year playing this weekend, but both of their injuries, especially Herzlich's, point to the fact that this is just a game, albeit a great one.

Gobbler Country Beamer and Nike working on making our White Throwbacks full-time

"Beamer likes the white throwback uniforms. Tech is potentially going to go with the throwbacks as their full-time uniform. They are working with Nike to get that accomplished."

Looks like we will be sporting throwbacks for good in the near future. Not clear as to whether it will just be the away/white throwbacks or if they are working on maroon and/or orange throwbacks for home games as well.
