I've been blogging for SB Nation since January 2009 when I took over Pickaxe and Roll to write about the Denver Nuggets. Since then SB Nation's Nuggets blog has become Denver Stiffs as I joined up with Andrew Feinstein. Our community is fast-growing and hungry to see the Nuggets sit atop the NBA.
I graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver with a degree in Journalism and History. While in school I interned at KDVR Fox 31 in the Sports Department. Growing up in Colorado it was important to learn the history of both the Broncos and the Nuggets to understand the gloom and the glory of the franchises. I was also able to witness, with a keen eye, the birth of both the Colorado Rockies and Avalanche as I grew up - living in history if you will.
Forever the historian I continue to study the past of my favorite sports as it helps fill in a lot of blanks. Through SB Nation I'm enjoying re-igniting my passion for writing and to top it off I get to talk Nuggets whenever I want and now I'll get to blab about all my other favorite local teams.

Off Topic Friday: Funny Afflalo Interview, Athlete Actors
The folks at The NOC conducted "Elevator Interviews" on Ahmad Bradshaw, Larry Fitzgerald, Arron Afflalo, and more ... check it out right here. Plus the Colorado Sports Guys podcast, talking Top 5 Athletes that will have an acting career after or during their playing career ... listen for which Nuggets make the list.
And how about the Thunder winning 102-82, at home, against the mighty Spurs? That series is now getting good at 2-1 San Antonio. Game 4 coming Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (MTN) on TNT.
Off Topic Tuesday: Heat crush Celtics in Game 1
It wasn't much of a contest last night between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. LeBron James scored 32 points and Dwyane Wade added 22 points of his own in the 93-79 blowout of Kevin Garnett and Company.
And we're just one day away from the NBA Draft Lottery Selection: May 30th, 2012 at 6 p.m. (MTN) on ESPN.
Off Topic Friday: It's the Heat vs. ???
Three of the four Conference Finals teams have been determined. The Thunder, Spurs, and Heat have all secured spots to play for the NBA Finals. Miami, shorthanded, defeated the Indiana Pacers in six games winning Game 6 last night 105-93. Dwyane Wade scored 41 points and LeBron James added 28 points of his own. The Pacers balanced attack (all five starters had 11 points or more) couldn't send the series to a Game 7, like the 76ers. Saturday the Sixers and Celtics will play Game 7 and the Western Conference Finals begin Sunday!
Podcast: Talking NBA Conference Finals
The CSG #42 podcast - talking NBA Conference Finals. Who is going to represent the Western Conference - the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs and will the Celtics and Heat face-off out East? And if the Broncos are Super Bowl Contenders, and what's wrong with the Rockies. Click here to listen.
Off Topic Wednesday: Two games away from Celtics vs Heat
With Miami's 115-83 beat-down of Indiana in Game 5 at American Airlines Arena, we are now just two games away from a Boston vs. Miami Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics go for the closeout today in Philadelphia against the 76ers (Boston leading 3-2) and the Heat will have their chance to closeout the Pacers Thursday.
Off Topic Wednesday: Spurs grab early 1-0 lead over Clippers
Podcast: CSG #41 Jeff Morton wraps up the Nuggets' season
Last night Jeff joined the Colorado Sports Guys podcast to discuss all things Nuggets. He was asked specifically about Arron Afflalo, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, JaVale McGee, and Ty Lawson. Also some talk about Chris Andersen and the role new media is playing in journalism today.
You can also find the podcast (free) on iTunes here.
Game 6 Nuggets Vs Lakers Recap: Lawson, Nuggets pulverize Lakers
The Nuggets won big tonight 113-96, but don't let that score fool you - this game was over at the 7:52 mark of the fourth quarter with Denver up 101-73. Kobe Bryant, and his flu, was taken out of the game and the celebration was on. Ty Lawson led the way with his best playoff performance to date: 32 points (on 13-18 shooting), 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. The Nuggets exploded, no Kobe pun intended, at The Can from downtown with a 10-20 night and from all over the floor - shooting 51% on the evening. There will be a Game 7.
Game 6 Nuggets 113 - Lakers 96: Post Game Thread
While I'm trying to figure out what happened tonight ... go ahead and leave your post game comments here! Go Nuggets, we're going to see a Game 7!

SS&R: "Is George Karl Shooting Denver in the Foot?"
**MUST READ** Actuarially Sound examines Denver's head coach in his latest post: "The man is well-liked, knowledgeable, and most importantly helps his team over-achieve, at least in the regular season. Unfortunately the playoffs have been another story."
Off Topic Tuesday: Come to Jake's for Game 5 and the CSG Guys
Tonight the Nuggets face playoff elimination at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. What better way to watch the Nuggets fight for their playoff lives than to hang out with a bunch of Stiffs at Jake's Food and Spirits at 3800 Walnut Street? Who is Jake anyway?
Head down a little early because from 8-8:30 p.m. the Colorado Sports Guys will be doing a little Nuggets trivia, where you could win some random prizes!
Come on out for Stiffs Night Out where we'll be talking about the chances that the Spurs (swept the Jazz) and Clippers (up 3-1 vs. the Grizzlies) will meet in Round 2, what else could happen to Al Harrington, and cheer on the Nuggets against the hated Lakers!
Nate Timmons on Denver Sports Nation 93.7 FM with D in Denver and Adam Kinney talking Nuggets and Game 4.
Off Topic Sunday: Mayweather, Diaz both big winners
The night before Game 4 between the Nuggets and Lakers, was a big fight night. Floyd Mayweather kept his undefeated record intact by besting Miguel Cotto to move to 43-0. Floyd now has a piece of the 154-pound title and claimed Cotto was the, "toughest guy I ever fought." Which is because Mayweather has been ducking Manny Pacquiao until Pac-Man is out of his prime, the classic "Money" Mayweather move. Now Floyd is off to jail and the mega fight continues to be a fight fan's dream. And nothing against Justin Bieber, but I couldn't resist the picture of Floyd and the Biebs - too funny.
Always competing with boxing - the UFC put on a free fight card on Fox featuring Nate Diaz and Jim Miller. Diaz won the fight with a second round submission and should now get a shot at the lightweight title. It took me a little while, but I'm a big fan of the Diaz Brothers (Nick and Nate).
The Nuggets have a big fight of their own ... tip-off is just hours away!
Kiz takes aim at George Karl ... again
Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla offers up another scorching piece on Nuggets head coach George Karl. In it he talks about Karl's playoff record in Denver (just 6-26 in seven of the last eight post-seasons), how Karl apologists keep reminding him to be nice to the coach, and he talks about Karl vs. Mike Brown. Very interesting article, give it a read.
Can Nuggets best defeat Lakers?
Anyone who normally reads this site knows I'm a glass half full guy. I can see the good in just about any situation. Well, after watching the Nuggets impose their will, at times, last night and still never play with a lead ... my glass is beginning to look half empty.
Off Topic Tuesday: Mavs in trouble, down 0-2 to Thunder
After Game 1 when the Thunder won on a last second jumper by Kevin Durant (a shot that needed a favorable bounce to find its home), I thought the Mavericks would be deflated in Game 2. Dallas came out last night and played very well, but still lost 102-99 as Oklahoma City out-executed them down the stretch again. What must Jason Kidd and Company do to get back up and into this series now that it's headed to Dallas? Checkout what Mavs fans think, click here. Discuss that and whatever else you like, after the jump ...
Nuggets At Lakers recap: Lawson, Afflalo combine for 16 points in loss
Well, it's back to the drawing board for George Karl and the Denver Nuggets. Karl could be heard on ESPN's "Wired" segment pleading with his team to push the pace and play with energy; his team ignored his pleas. Karl also poked fun at his squad for allowing Andrew Bynum to have a field day blocking shots in the Lakers 101-88 Game 1 win.

Game 1 Nuggets At Lakers preview: Which team holds the advantages? (1:30pm MT)
Well, it didn't take long for this writer to become a nervous wreck. Watching the Dallas Mavericks try (and fail) to pull out a game in Oklahoma City last night got me ready for playoff basketball. Every possession seems bigger, each rebound looms larger, and every shot will have me moving to the edge of my seat. Dig in. Let's examine the match-ups for today's game that airs on ABC at 1:30 p.m. mountain.
Denver Nuggets NBA Playoff Preview
Well, we now know the Nuggets will face the hated Los Angeles Lakers in the post-season, starting Sunday, April 29th, at 1:30 p.m. MT. The Lakers, a team the Nuggets and Nuggets Nation is very familiar with. In the coming days, we'll have some different playoff perspectives for you and predictions from your Denver Stiffs team ... let's go to mine, after the jump!
NBA Playoff Game One Schedule Released
The Thunder, Bulls, and Heat will play Game One of their first-round series on Saturday, April 28th. The Lakers, Clippers, and Spurs will play Game One on Sunday, April 29th. Tonight will determine if the Nuggets will play Saturday vs. the Thunder or Sunday vs. the Lakers - only thing we know for sure, the Nuggets will open on the road. Road, Road, roooaaaddd ... that word has now lost all meaning.
Golden Nuggets: Denver one win away from Lake Show
What a game last night against the Thunder! I was texting Jeff Morton game updates at a pace that would have made Brian O'Conner very proud. With the game tied 95-95, I texted that it was "gut check" time for the Nuggets - and they went and won the game after overcoming a very difficult stretch and OKC scoring run (remember when it was 92-88 Nuggets?!). After the jump, we'll tackle some NBA links ...
Oh, and with a victory in Minnesota tonight, the Nuggets can lock up the No. 6 seed and a date with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.
Podcast: How should the NBA R.O.Y. be determined?
Ross and I break down how we think the Rookie of the Year should be determined in the NBA. Where should Kenneth Faried finish in the voting? And we break down the Nuggets' chances on beating either the Thunder or the Lakers. Listen here.
Lakers' World Peace gone for 7 games
Metta World Peace aka Ron Artest has been suspended for 7 games, for his elbow to the head of the Thunder's James Harden. The Lakers have one regular season game left and then World Peace will miss 6 playoff games as well. Those suspensions could come against your Denver Nuggets in Round One.
Farewell to Chris Andersen and his Birdman persona
It appears that Chris Andersen's time as a Denver Nuggets player is drawing to an end. Andersen hasn't appeared in a game since March 25th and hasn't played meaningful minutes since March 15th against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Definitely a fan-favorite, Andersen was as well-known for his Mohawk and tattoos as he was for his dunks and blocks. The last member remaining of the Western Conference Finals team will forever be known as the Birdman and his persona will be missed.
