The Phinsider Ok...if you annualize the stats of matt moore you get this.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm not on the ledge like some of you folks are. I think we have a good basic core of players on Defense and some real talent on offense including Matt Moore. I thnk we may have something here. Let's play pretend.

Look at the stat lines for 4 QBs.

1. 4077 Yards 63.2% Completion 21 TDS and 14 INTS

2. 3398 Yards 58.1% Completion 20 TDS and 13 INTS

3. 3250 Yards 60.5% Completion 21 TDS and 12 INTS

4. 3610 Yards 57.6% Completion 20 TDS and 12 INTS

I'll reveal who these are after the jump.

The Phinsider Saints fallout could land the Phins a certain Drew Brees.

Ok,

Stop and follow me here for a second.

1. Saints coach and main leader Sean P. has been suspended for a year and I would be surprised if he's able to return to New Orleans as a result of the fallout.

2. Drew Brees was given the franchise tag and is not happy about it.

3. The Saints will most likely have a poor season this year. The old cut off the snake's head argument.

4. Brees will be a free agent in 2013.

So all of this points to the strong possibility that the dream marriage of Brees and the Saints and the City of New Orleans might be at an end.

Let's pretend that the Moore/Garrard/unnamed young QB allegedly drafted this year does not pan out and we are still questing for a starting QB who would be a better option for us next year then Drew Brees. If the phins are still jonesing for the next big QB I will bet they will make a legitimate offer for Brees' services and if Ross really wants him I'm betting he can figure out a way to do it.

Even if the Phins draft Cousins (my preference) or Tannehill (still a good option) then he could learn under Drew and Brees could give the Phins 2-3 years of elite play.

That's what I'm thinking is possible if the QB plan this year doesn't go as planned.

The Phinsider Concerns re: trading or signing Peyton Manning...

As a medical professional I would be particularly concerned about the type of injury that Peyton is recovering from. This is based on the following information. (No I do not have access to any information about Peyton's injury that is not available elsewhere).

1. Nerves take the longest length of time of any body tissue to heal. The chances of continuing problems from a surgically repaired nerve are significant.

2. Even repaired nerves can and most always do continue to have certain problems including but not limited to weakness of the affected area, numbness in the affected area.

3. The fact that the nerve root involved in this case involve the neck and upper spine area would cause significant concern for most people. If Peyton would be too take an awkward hit affecting the area of the repair then there is concern regarding partial paralysis. Yes that is a concern with all football players but already having surgical intervention in that area would make that type of injury more likely.

My point is that there is no guarantee that Peyton will ever be able to throw the ball like he did before and if he can there is significant chance that he could be injury prone for the remainder of his career. As a lifelong phins fan I would love to have him play in Miami but this is by no means a can't miss prospect. Be cautiously optimistic but do not sell the farm for him.

Over the Monster Bailey traded to BoSox for Reddick.

I'm ok with this especially if the Sox have an idea about who's gonna be the platoon for RF. If they bring on Andruw Jones which I'm not sold on then they can platoon him with one of the youngsters. Maybe even try and bring in Ordonez (Not sure if he's ever played RF) but we'll see what happens next. I think picking up Bailey sets the bullpen up the way they want it. Now if they can only figure out a way to get Garza from the Cubs I'll be ok with this team as it currently stands.

The Phinsider Tired of the complaints and the platitudes from the players.

If this is them playing hard and still looking like crap then there are even bigger problems than I originally thought.  Jake Long is still not 100% I don't care what anyone says.  He looks terrible.  He's gettting blown away by D-ends and he's been made to look silly in recent games.  Lot's of pressure from that side that has really made Matt Moore's job a lot harder.  Reggie Bush could have been killed a couple of times having to chip or even fully block a LB'er or a DE.  Ugly line play.  But it wasn't really from the usual cast of characters.  Matt Moore showed some moxie and at times looked great.  Reggie had his second 100 yard rushing game of his career.  But other than that I was ashamed of the defense.   LB'ers were MIA and the Secondary was really good at running into one another and not making tackles.  Jimmy Wilson may actually have some skills.  I saw flashes of talent there.  But the rest of those goons are terrible.  Tired of the mediocrity and tired of the excuses and tired of guys complaining.

1,  Complaining about the Suck for Luck:  I've heard several guys complaining about the talk for suck for luck.  If they would win some games there would not be the talk of it.  So win some games and the talk goes away.

2.  Guys complaining when Reggie said "we're terrible":  You are terrible.  Reggie was honest.  Use that to push yourself in the gym and in practice.  You're a terrible football team.  Deal with that and don't criticize guys for saying what is reality.

3.  These guys are playing really hard for Tony:  Who cares.  If this is them playing really hard then we've got bigger problems than I thought.  Which is really troubling.  A.  Had they not been playing hard before?  B.  If this is them playing hard than almost the entire team is terrible.  C.  If Tony has this lockerroom under control then he should be able to get more out of these guys.

4.  On the Tony note:  Let's quit talking about what other coach are we going to get or when is Tony going to get fired.  It really doesn't matter.  I fear this is a wasted season.  If we fire Tony then we have an interim coach and things only get worse.  Say what you want we've put up with FG Tony for years now.  Firing him now is not really accomplishing anything.  So that's all I have to say about that.

5.  Ok.  Enough bitching now here are my solutions:  A.  Evaluate Jake Long and determine if he's hurt.  If he is then he's done for the next three games until he is at 100%.  B.  Move Cam Wake to DE and play him Opposite Odrick.  with Soliai in the NT role.  C.  Keep Matt Moore moving.  Let him go on designed rollouts and keep Reggie Bush near enough to provide a safety valve if no downfield options are available.  D.  Keep Jimmy Wilson in the games.  FS/SS CB whatever I like his spunk and let's see if he can be a starter.

Over the Monster Pedroia as the new Captain.

Let me first say that I love Jason V.  (In fact I ran into him down here in north georgia over the weekend and he was super nice).  But I feel that the Captaincy should be reserved for a starter as I think it's hard for a bench player to really inspire the rest of the team.  The overall lack of team leadership doomed this team.  Maybe in the past the talent was sufficient to allow the guys to do the things that we're now hearing about.  Maybe all the chicken, beer, video games etc were happening but when they make the playoffs noone cared either internally or externally.  But now with all the "news" reports floating around the team needs some leaders kicking some a$$ in the clubhouse and some new rules and some structure.  Who on this team is better equipped to that than The Laser Show?  He's wicked awesome on the field and his heart and desire can not be questioned in any way.  I'm just wondering if the bad apples in the clubhouse are so far gone that they can't be saved even by the Muddy Chicken.  I'd like to see the team elect him Captain and see if he can't get the ship going in the right direction.  Say what you want about Jeter but I think he's a leader in the Yankers clubhouse and he has the respect of the other players and he squashes $hit like this before it becomes an issue.  I might be naive but I think a strong Dustin P. can start to set things right in the clubhouse.

The Phinsider Two RB's on the field at once. Maybe I'm missing something.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm no expert...but I pretend to be.  So let's just jump in here.  Why in the f--- won't the Phins try and put Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush on the field at the same time.  This way the Offense could be much more dynamic and open the field up for both the passing game and the run game.

Daniel Thomas would have one less LB'er to deal with on his runs between the tackles.

Reggie Bush would be open in space in the flat to the left or right of Henne.

Brandon Marshall and other receivers would also get a little bit more open areas of the field to work in.

I mean the Phins showed in week 1 that Reggie is a legit weapon.  Then they shut him down completely in week 2.  I'm sure there's a good reason I can't think of but right now the coaching staff has to try something.  We can't blame Henne thus far for either of these losses.  The defense has shown some serious holes but I really think the coaching staff needs to figure out a plan.  This is a plan.  Maybe not the plan....but it's something.

The Phinsider Darren Krein...needs to find a new job.

You don't know who Darren Krein is?  Then you might be surprised that he is the Miami Dolphins head strength and conditioning coach.  It's his responsibility that these players be physically conditioned and have a hydration strategy in place to handle the various types of games that they might be playing.  They played a fast paced team last night and they were winded, gassed, cramping, dehydrated, and in all ways fashions etc they were tired.  I've never seen a lineman sit down after getting blocked look at the QB still flatfooted in the pocket looking for a receiver get up so slowly in all my days watching football.  Marshall cramps, Davis cramps, Nolan (menstrual) cramps...etc etc.  This was pretty poor and I blame it entirely on the conditioning coach.  That's frustrating because I think the conditioning was responsible for a lot of the passes completed by Brady (especially to whomever was near Carroll).  Nolan shouldn't have been on the field as often as he was but he was there because of cramps.  When Nolan got tired he got even worse.  Ugh!!!

But on the bright side Reggie looked great, Fasano does indeed have two working hands, Marshall was awesome, Cam Wake looked ok but he was getting worked, and Henne looked like  a worldbeater (yes I said that).  All in all I take a lot more positives away from this game then negatives.  But Darren Krein please get these guys hydrated and have a hydration plan in place.  That was ugly and they were playing at home!!!!!!!

Gang Green Nation Hey guys...bringing back the Jets vs. Dolphins Fan fantasy football league.

I have a few spots open and was wanting to round out the list.

I've done this league two years now and it's been pretty fun and full of witty banter back and forth.  There's always a race to see who can draft Sanchez and Henne first.  Regardless if you aren't scared to be beaten both on the field and off by the Dolphins then join up.

It's yahoo league # 335839 and I don't think there is a password but if there is it's tebow.  (Yep still got that man crush going on)

Thanks!

The Phinsider The Phinsider FFL year two i have some spots open.

This was a league that we started last year and allowed Phins Phans and Jets Fans to be in the same league.  It was super fun and i'm doing it again.  We have some returning folks from last year but wanted to make sure that it was fully populated with Phins and Jets fans.

Go to yahoo and it's league # 335839 and I don't think there is a password but if there is it's tebow (Yeah I know I'm still man-crushing on him)

I'm also going to post this on the gang green forums but I will give our guys a little bit of a head start to get logged in.  It's a fun league and it was quite competitive last year.  I'm planning on winning this year.  Dang Mike Vick or I would have won last year.

The Phinsider Mike and Mike say that Palmer going to Giants then to Dolphins for Osi...

I don't know how much legitimacy this might indeed have but if it's the case then maybe we'll see a new QB in Miami.  Just heard this for a second and I'm interested in seeing if there are any legs to this rumor.  It looks like the phins would in theory give up a first round pick to the Giants who would trade Osi U. to the Bengals for Palmer.  Like I said I don't know how real this rumor is but it's at least something new that doesn't involve Orton.  I'm not saying I love it but it's at least some new drama in South Beach.

The Phinsider Let's go out and get Dennis Dixon for a fifth round pick.

I think that the Dolphins are an above average QB away from a great exciting year. Right now we've got two average (at best) QB's in camp and one wild card. The average are Matt Moore and Chad Henne and the wild card is Pat Devlin. Give Devlin a year or so and he might be special. I think we've seen enough of Chad and his roller coaster type antics. Good enough to win the game one day and bad enough to make you want to look away the next. Matt Moore is more of the same. But if the possibility is out there to add Dennis Dixon to the mix for a 5th round pick next year I say go for it. I've been forced to watch more Steelers games then I can shake a stick at but I remember thinking that Dennis DIxon looked pretty solid for a young backup QB thrown into the limelight by Rapelisberger's antics.  He completed passes at a 70% rate in an offense that relies on the run a lot.  Can anyone else think of an offense that relies on the run?  I'm just not too worried about a 2012 late round pick if I know we can have Dennis Dixon.  He's another option that can possibly be a starting QB for the Phins.  Just saying I'm hearing some rumblings and I've seen the guy play and he's pretty interesting.

The Phinsider We should hope the Jets get the Nmandi A.

My thoughts are this.  If the Jets get the alphabet soup that is Nmandi then they will have significant cap space filled up by two CBs.  On one hand that sounds bad but if they want to play that game I'm ok with that.  If you'll remember last year the Jets had a lot of trouble scoring points against the good defenses in the league.  If I were the Jets I would be focusing my attention on getting another young RB or another top WR.  But no all the jets fans are so stoked to be getting another CB that they forget the fact that their offense is not as good as it was last year.

The Phinsider Miami Dolphins 2011-2012 team needs. Trying to be objective here.

First of all let's all take a deep breath and really think about what we need given our performance last year.  Let's begin by looking at the defense.  We had an all around solid defense statistically I believe it was top five but I'll say all in all we had a top ten defense.

We drafted Odrick last year in Round 1.  Not an awful pick I wanted something more flashy but I always want something more flashy.  Since he was injured for most of the year let's pretend he's our second round pick this year.  That's at least the way I want to look at it.  So that takes care of the high round defensive lineman pick.  So now let's really focus on team needs.

My opinion is that we need to address the areas of the team in the order listed below.

1.  QB:  I love Cam Newton I have a soft spot in my heart for him.  If he's available at 15 I say take him all day long and you've got the franchise QB we need.  He's got a huge arm and elite QB speed.  If he can be taught some NFL throws and some additional footwork to go along with his current skill set he's gonna singlehandedly change some games.  If he's not available at 15 then we missed out on him.  If Mallett somehow falls I think he can be a great NFL QB as well.  If you end up taking a RB in round 1 then Andy Dalton if he's there in round three is your choice.

2.  RB:  Ronnie and Ricky are running a little long in the tooth but I think they both have some mileage left on the legs right now I wouldn't think they will be signing Ronnie to a long term deal and I think they can get a discount on Williams so you still need one elite RB.  A couple of options in this draft are Ingram in the first or Ryan Williams in the third.

3.  O-line:  Anytime after round 3 take the best center available or the best guard/tackle and then we move Incognito to center.  Which I'm actually ok with.  Richie is nasty and he can move the pile.

4.  Defensive Secondary:  Another safety to go with the crew would be great.  A guy like Rashad Jones would be nice because I think he's coming along nicely.

5.  WR:  Take the fastest guy available.  Seriously I don't care who.  Take the fastest guy so we can stretch the defenses and force safeties to play deep.  If we can do that then Bess and Marshall will have field days.  Marshall is a beast when given some space to make special plays in.  But when all the safeties are crowding up and the short pass underneath is all that's available Marshall is made to look pedestrian.

6.  D-line:  I like our D-line but we can always have fresh bodies.  Take a chance on a guy who might turn into the next Cam Wake.

7.  Linebackers:  I'm sure we'll take some somewhere hopefully it's later in the draft.  Dansby is solid and the rest of the guys do a good job.

This pisses me off more and more every time I see it. You get a guy like Tebow that takes a bad team and leads them to two exciting victories on his arm and his legs. We get stuck with Chad Henne. GFY Chad...GFY. I hate you.

The Phinsider Brad Childress to interview for Phins OC position.

So apparently Chilly is going to be interviewing for the Phins OC position. See attached link:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6017674&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

So my initial thought was ugh...what the heck is this about.  Then I remembered how interesting and innovative the offense was under Childress last year with Favre at the helm (he's not that great anymore) and some good WR's.  I'd be willing to take a chance with Childress and I hope that he gets the gig.  I think he has the drive and ambition to show he's still got it and I think he can take Marshall and Bess to new heights of success.

The Phinsider Henne out and Andy Dalton (or Cam Newton) in...

Ok,  So I've been a fan since the Marino days and I've seen a progression of QB's come and go.  They've all been pretty terrible with the exception of CP10.  He brought leadership and a history of winning.  Chad Henne lacks both leadership and a history of winning.  At Michigan the team regressed (from a win loss perspective) under Chad Henne which is similar to what he has shown in the NFL.  I'm done with him.  I was excited when they got him but now I'm just over it.

BUT...

As explained by several other folks here and I'm only going to discuss it for a second...THE COACHING WAS PATHETIC!  Sparano running around freaking out about a field goal?  Henning getting an elite wide receiver and being too scared to use him?  Bringing the wildcat in late in close games and sealing the defeat for us?  I mean this was so much worse of a year then the record showed.  Having a top five defense and still finishing 7-9 with Brandon Marshall!  WTF.

So here's my solution.

The Phinsider All of this talk about Tebow. Who wants to make an honor wager?

I'll make an honor wager with any and all comers that Tim Tebow will be a starting NFL quarterback within three years.  Let me know if you're interested.  I'm willing to stake my reputation as a football fan on my assertion that he will indeed be able to become a starting NFL QB!  It doesn't matter what team or if he ends up making a playoff run or anything like that.  I'm saying NFL Starter!  It's easy to say he won't do it.  But I'm wanting y'all to put up or shut up about him.

Put your honor on the line for this one.

The Phinsider Official beginning of the draft Major Wright movement.

Get on the wagon with me now.  I'm declaring it open season.  This guy has all the skills and knows how to play the safety position.  He'll be available later in the draft (end of third) and will be a stud.  Calling it now.  If I could figure out how to change my e-signature I'd make this my E-sig.  Major Wright bus driver!!!  WooHoo!!!  Seriously if you watched SEC games you know this guy is legit.

The Phinsider Which of these three Drafts would you be happiest with?

1.  First Round:  Rolando McClain Second Round:  Golden Tate Third Round:  Dexter McClusker

2.  First Round:  CJ Spiller Second Round: Brandon Spikes Third Round:  Terrence Cody

3.  First Round:  Dan Williams Second Round: Jahvid Best Third Round:  Major Wright

I'd personally like to see the second option.  But all three are possibly available to us.  We'll see how it goes.  I'd like to see how Mount Cody looks at the combine but I'm betting he'll be all jiggly.  But he might turn into a worker.  He's a heck of a player if he puts in the effort.
