Canes Country My Playoff Musings

Hey y'all!

These are just my thoughts on the playoffs thus far. My friends don't watch hockey and tune me out when I go on about them. I wanted to share my thoughts in an environment where people know what I'm talking about, even if y'all don't agree. So enjoy the ramblings ahead... there's no straight line of thought.. just points of discussion that I have no one to discuss with.

First! ( and at t the risk of jinxing myself) All my playoff teams have advanced to the next round! That's never happened for me before. It's pretty cool. Ultimately, I want a western team to win the Stanley Cup, but I'm going round-by-round to figure who I'm picking. I just don't care if the Hurricanes aren't in it.

Canes Country The New Guy

Okay, It's been a month. I've been dying to know.

I have yet to actually hear Bob Harwood's comments/interviews.

I've watched all but 2 games. However, I don't have a tv, few friends and no close by hockey buddies (woe is me). But!  I'm able to go out and about to watch the games. The places I go usually have music playing and no captions. Not that I need the announcers to tell me when it's our night and when a game has gone to the dogs.

So, I turn to you, the Caniacs with TVs and sound.

Do you like the new guy?

Oh! And please elaborate in the comments. A true third-hand opinion can't be be decided by just a poll.

I know everyone's bummed right now, but maybe we can push the Hurricanes to win the History... thing on nhl.com. Looks like the Canes have 3 great moments on the bracket. Vote away.

Canes Country Visiting Team's Autographs

I'll go ahead and admit that the Columbus Blue Jackets are my favorite team in the Western Conference (I'm a glutton for the underdogs). I'd love to get some autographs when they come to Raleigh Saturday.

I know the Hurricanes sometimes sign autographs after the games if you wait forever and a day.  I'm totally willing to wait for the Blue Jackets. Does anyone knows how (or if) I can get autographs before or after the game? Any info would be awesome. I went and splurged on tickets; if I can't get autographs, I'll settle for good seats.

PS- I'll still be cheering for the Canes on Saturday, but I won't boo if Rick Nash scores.

Canes Country Caniacs- a short story

I wrote this short, nonfiction piece last semester for a writing class. I've been editing it over the summer and wanted to share. It's about my first hockey game and the Hurricanes' first game at the ESA. This game turned my relationship with my father around and turned me into a Caniac.

I know I'm not the best writer. I'm not looking for an analytical critique; I'm just hoping you can enjoy the story. Maybe satisfy a portion of your hockey cravings.

The only facts that I'm not sure about are parking price and the pin I received at the gate might have been bought later.

Enjoy.

While there hasn't been any formal announcement of the position Rod Brind'Amour will be taking with the Carolina Hurricanes, he is currently lending a helping hand to the younger forwards on the team. Brind'Amour says he will go where he is needed. He will be at the camp working out with the youngsters, offering encourgement and giving insights to the coaches.
