Neil Weinberg is the Associate Managing Editor at the saber-slanted baseball site Beyond The Box Score where he makes it his mission to make advanced baseball analysis easily digestible for casual fans and extremely informative for die-hards. You can find him doing the same as the FanGraphs Site Educator. He also contributes to Gammons Daily and TigsTown, but his first love is the Detroit Tigers and you can find him writing enthusiastically about them at New English D.

He and his wife (whom he loves equally as much as the Tigers) live in North Carolina, entirely too far from an MLB stadium. You can follow and interact with him on Twitter @NeilWeinberg44

Mike Dunn makes pitcher wins cool again

+

We're long past the point of taking pitcher wins seriously as a measure of value. But as a measure of wonder, we might be witnessing the greatest season ever.

The unexpected young MVP candidate in D.C.

1

Many, including this analyst, had Bryce Harper pegged as a likely MVP this season. We were close ... geographically.

Murphy, Bogaerts on the extRE(24)mes

4

David Murphy and Xander Bogaerts are making the most (and least) of their hits so far this season.

The lifespan of an ace

9

We spend a lot of time arguing about which pitchers are aces and if any of them are worth investing in long term, but how long do their reigns typically last?

Clayton Kershaw, very pleasant bully

2

By all accounts, Clayton Kershaw is a wonderful human being. For some reason, opposing hitters don't agree.

Zach Duke: Now with strikeouts!

1

Zach Duke wasn't known for eye-popping stuff or terrific numbers. That might have to change.

Hamilton, Martinez are equals

+

You probably couldn't find two more different major league skill sets than Billy Hamilton and Victor Martinez, but in one way, they're almost twins.

Forgive Marco Estrada's home runs

11

Marco Estrada has already allowed 23 home runs in 2014 at a rate of 2.46 per nine innings. Don't expect that to continue.

The (sort of) new Alex Gordon

4

Alex Gordon is a good player having a great year. He's done that before, but never quite like this.

Baseball's race to the bottom

3

We spend hours and hours refining and crafting our arguments about who should be crowned baseball's best player at the end of each season. How about the same for those at the bottom?

How to evaluate a pitcher, sabermetrically

3

Advanced stats might seem like a complicated foreign language, but becoming conversational is actually very easy. Learn how to analyze a pitcher's numbers.

Troy Tulowitzki's amazing start

1

It's Troy Tulowitzki's world and we're just living in it.

Strikeouts are up but the single game record holds

3

It's no secret that strikeouts are on the rise, but if that's the case, why haven't we seen more pitchers take a run at the single game record shared by Roger Clemens, Kerry Wood, and Randy Johnson?

Boone Logan is way above sea level

+

The Rockies new LOOGY is off to a great start. Will it last?

The cost of a long first inning

16

Thinking out loud about the cost of a long first inning.

Alexei Ramirez might be getting better

1

We're only about a dozen games into the regular season, but Alexei Ramirez is doing a fine job controlling the strikezone.

The bases loaded bunt

7

When you think of the sacrifice bunt, you think about weak hitting middle infielders with runners on first and second with nobody out. Sometimes, things are a little less predictable.

Opening Day records

1

As baseball dawns across the country today, let's consider what it would take to break Opening Day records.

2014 Team Previews: Kansas City Royals

+

The Royals made a big gamble prior to the 2013 season. They didn't play postseason baseball, but they may have set themselves up for another run in 2014.

Trout's extension arrives

10

Mike Trout, the closet thing we have to a perfect baseball player, has just signed an extension that is both massive and tiny.

2014 Team Previews: Pittsburgh Pirates

1

How will the Pirates follow-up on their best season since 1992?

The best possible season

17

We talk a lot about what a player's ceiling could be, but rarely about what the best possible season might look like.

The best fit for Kendrys Morales

Which teams make sense for the switch-hitting designated hitter?

Cards extend Carpenter, keep being the Cardinals

3

Matt Carpenter was one of the best players in baseball in 2013. If he's a little better than average his new contract is going to look good. If he's anything more, it's going to be incredible.
