RJ's Summer Work
I came across this story on ESPN. It explains an ultimatum pop made to Richard Jefferson and how Jefferson responded:
Gregg Popovich and Richard Jefferson work overtime
This is definitely the kind of news most of us like to read about. It's certainly better than the countless articles about Parker thinking about ditching San Antonio.
RJ, you're officially out of my doghouse. Try to keep it that way.
Furthermore, reading articles such as this always makes me wonder why there's still a permanent "fire Pop!" crowd in SA. Was Bob Hill really that good of a coach?

Ok, I understand everyone’s excited about the Spurs' moves, but expectations are getting a bit silly here. Yes, the Spurs got a steal in Blair in the second round, but let’s be realistic. It’s highly unlikely that he’ll be starting next to Tim Duncan much this year, and certainly not by the playoffs. The Spurs' 2nd big man is going to have to come in and be able to consistently hit jumpers on offense, serve as the secondary shot blocker and guard the Nowitzskis and Gasols of the NBA. None of these seems likely for Blair coming in as a rookie. What we’re getting is a rebounding specialist. Probably the best in this draft class. In such a weak draft, with no first round picks, that is a steal. In reality though, his ceiling as a rookie is probably as the first big off the bench as a Malik Rose styled hustle player (before Malik traded his hustle for a mid-range jumper). I also think he is the perfect style big for a Manu led 2nd unit. If he gives what we expect, Blair will feast on the havoc Manu creates (both good and bad).
As for McClinton: coming in and serving as the “Eddie House” role as a “late second round in an extremely weak draft class” rookie while the FO ignores guys they’ve already been developing from the past two draft classes? Are we seriously thinking this is a possibility? He is going to spend most of his time in Austin next season. We should get used to the idea. Let’s focus on what Malik Hariston and Marcus Williams might offer this season as I suspect they’re more likely to make the roster.
Miles Contract
I'm sure most of you already know about this. To sum it up, due to some weird injury waiver rule, if any team signs Darius Miles and has him on their active roster for 2 games it will cost the Blazers 9 million. This would kill all of their vaunted salary cap space.
Hollinger has a good piece on it, that effectively outlines how any team under the cap who signs him to a minimum contract actually makes a profit on the deal through the payments Portland would have to send through the luxury tax.
So who wants to make guesses as to which team pulls this stunt. The Grizzlies already cut him, as did the Celtics.
Does anyone think the Spurs might do so? Pop is the only coach to resort to Hack-a-Shaq for its competitive advantage. Would he screw Portland also for the same reason?
My guess: The Atlanta Hawks. And solely for the small profit they'd receive.
And a week later...
The Spurs are back in the thick of things according to John Hollinger's playoff predictor, and it's now the Dallas Mavericks that are screwed.
We can all stop crying ourselves to sleep now.
