Giants met with Alshon Jeffery
Absolutely oustanding Osi Umenyiora highlights
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nlKDo_m694
What impressed me most about that video is how he played the run. Made a lot of impressive stops. 2009 was a horrendous year for him against the run but he seems much better in recent years
I mean, after watching a video like that, is Osi really worth giving away for a 3rd round pick? Or 2nd round pick? Dude is just a game changer. Not sure if theres a pass rusher that creates that many fumbles right now as seen in that video
After watching that, my opinion on Osi has changed. We should extend him 3 or 4 years imo

Is beatty ready to take the next step?
Watching the film on Beatty that just surfaced on the giants youtube channel, he looks surprisingly, well, dare I say... dominant. He was pushing people around in the running game and put on a great performance against the redskins. But what disturbed me was his pass protection skills. Sometimes he got beat off the snap and reverted to holding and arm-barring his opponent. I remember against the jets he did some similar things as I remember it was one play when he got beat off the ball and "arm-barred" his guy. I'm seriously worried if he can go up against the most quickest rushers in the game. Based on that video, anyone else have any concerns about Beatty?
He did do well against JPP... but I think JPP's strength is his length, monster wingpspan, and explosiveness. He's not super quick off the ball. Beatty did do well against Osi this camp, but Osi was playing with a knee problem for the very brief time he was in camp. I dunno
Bills fans impression of Paul Poz.?
Giants fans here. I want to know what's the general concensus bills fans have of Paul? I watched his new youtube film and he looks like a tremendous player who is always around the football and incredibly instinctive:
But yet, on sources like twitter, I hear Poz is overrated and an average mlb? I dont know what to believe so I wanted to ask bills fans here where intelligent football fans that are generally on SB nation usually exist. Obviously the giants need a LB and i was wondering how interested the bills are in keeping him?
Terrific Jacquian williams high/low lights
This may or may not be necessary, but considering the general unfamiliarity people have with williams I came across this video and had to recommend it to be people. It showcases the bad things with him, but also some good. This guy looks like a solid athlete who flashes some nice instincts. Just recommending it, its worth a watch:
I think he can potentially be a starter down the line if he improves. I like that uploader too, seems to always be uploading videos on giants players gotta enjoy that too

desean jackson making excuses?
Still haven't gotten over that crushing loss. desean jackson has been in the media everywhere talking about his great punt return on fox sports, espn, nfl network, eagles post game press conference etc etc. what i find funny is that he (And even vick said it) was getting doubled teamed a lot which causes him to not get the big play
I just find it funny, that's an excuse. Corey Webster shut him down when he lined up at his side. He even had a pick (although vick threw across his body and made a stupid decision). I'm not one of those guys who's going to type an essay and give a play-by-play breakdown on why jackson wasn't double covered most of the game because I am truly lazy, but I re-watched the game and I noticed that we locked up desean jackson man-on-man against corey webster for practically most of the day. Aside from 1 comeback route for 8 yards, jackson was shut down by webster. his other 2 catches (i believe) came against zone coverage.
Will Webster ever get credit for being one of the best man-to-man CBs in the NFL? I have no idea why defenses dont play jackson the way webster did last sunday. there's a reason why jackson fell to the second round, because he's undersized and scouts believed he would not get off a jam against bigger corners in the nfl. for some reason, people would prefer to play off coverage against jackson and HE still runs by that coverage.
We need a complete overhaul top to bottom
How many times over the years have we seen this team get blown out. No, not because they don't have talent, not because of bad play calling, not because of injuries, because of their PSYCHE. There are so many times when this just lays down and lays an egg. That's normal in the NFL, but with the Giants it happens MULTIPLE TIMES.
Sometimes in the first half we play like crap
Sometimes in the second half we play like crap
Sometimes the whole game we play crap
Sometimes we keep turning the ball over and comitting penalties that negate offensive success
I don't know what to do. Does this team deserve to make the playoffs? I'm sorry Ed if I seem very blunt and impolite, I can't help it. That has to be one of the worst collapses in FRANCHISE HISTORY.
In 2009 our defensive players were clearly reading the papers about how great they are AND THEY DONT BOTHER SHOWING UP FOR NEARLY HALF OF THEIR GAMES THAT YEAR. The payroll in this team is ridiculous! 42 million for a run stuffing tackle? 5 mil per year for a LB that cant keep containment? A 1st round pick that cant blitz or stay disciplined? A defense that can't stay in their rushing lanes?
The ENTIRE game, and I mean the ENTIRE DARN GAME, we leave our corners in man coverage against the eagles, but when the game is FREAKING ON THE LINE Terrell Thomas is lined up IN THE DARN END ZONE, WHY IS A CB LINED UP 15 YARDS OFF OF A RECEIVER?
This team may not even make the playoffs. They dont' deserve it.
Is Eli Manning in a slump?
This may offend some Eli apologists who make excuses for him every single time, but there is no excuse for eli and the way he's playing these last couple of games. how many times have we seen eli miss a wide open receiver by overthrowing it, underhrowing it, throwing it too low, or throwing it too high? how many times have we seen eli throw some inconsistent spirals (it was in a dome this time)? throwing too late? taking "gunslinging" risks into coverage? unable to throw it in-stride and forcing our receivers to adjust, slow down, or get hit hard and destroyed after the catch. i love how tom brady said he throws the ball to maximize YAC and avoids leading his receivers into big hits. Why can't eli do that? He's certainly shown the ability that he can but he's not lately.
maybe im overreacting, but im getting very upset at the way eli is playing. i almost destroyed my TV after his second INT. I thought it was going to be another 'we just beat ourselves' football game. Thank goodness we can win games when eli manning is turning the football more than any QB in the NFL. He can't do this in the playoffs and its time for coughlin to address this with eli and do something with him instead of ignoring it.
imagine how dominant this team can be if eli would play the way he did in the beginning of the year. is he in a slump or is this just normal ol' eli and he is always like this? As for me, I think he's slumping right now like mark sanchez and he has to snap out of this crap before it costs us in the playoffs. no way are we competitive against the eagles if eli continues to play like this. im so frustrated because im not sure if its ever going to stop. the turnovers could continue forever.. the fact that we can still blow out teams with our turnovers speaks volumes about our team
Rolando Mcclain
I'm a Giants fan here. All offseason over at BBV, we were debating about rolando mcclain this, rolando mcclain that. for months, actually. there was so much arguing it was crazy. there was a LOT of mixed opinions about mcclain. some peeps said he was too slow, some peeps said that hes overrated only gets off blocks with his strength as oppose to technique, some people said he is a dominant mind that is never out of position, some people said he has a natural nose for the football, etc etc etc
I want to ask raiders fans that has watched every game this season, what is your opinion of Mcclain? Do you think he has played well this year? What are some of his flaws that were never there in college but got exposed in the NFL? What does he do well to merit a top 10 draft pick? Did he really turn out to be dominant, hard-nosed LB so many scouts predicted? Thanks
Loss had was because of the break coughlin gave the team on monday?
I saw on NFL Sounds that after the 41-7 drubbing of the seahawks, coughlin gave the team the day off on monday...
Maybe this team got complacent and layed a huge egg watching film of the cowboys thinking every team in the league is going to lay down to the giants. i mean, seriously. they came out of sync, unenthused, had communication issues, blown coverages, you name it...
the talk all week is going to be how talented the cowboys are and how they finally put it together, and maybe so, but I think its more of how big of an EGG the giants layed on sunday. They just came out flat. After seeing the game the pats rebound after laying an egg against the browns, hopefully we can do the same
Yo, got a question for pack fans
Hey, I'm a Giants fan.
We've been struggling with special teams this season. Giants have been getting zero production from Darius Reynaud who likes to stop his feet, wait for a guy to come to him, and try to evade him (and not very good in that aspect) instead of accelerating up the field and making guys miss at the same time.
To combat this, the giants signed will blackmon. i see he's been a packer for a couple of years. what is your assessment of him on special teams? i see he has 3 TD returns as a packer. is he good? does he accelerate fast? can he make guys miss? does he have ball handling problems?
but yea you get my point. seeing how you guys mustve been watching every single return he's done I came here to ask...
Cowboys are not a great football team - the Giants are MUCH better
I look at this roster and how they've been playing, and I refuse to believe they are 'the best talent in the NFL' as their fans dub them to be.
Their defense is middle of the road. While they are ranked 4th in the NFL, I believe that is misleading. They have a very good defensive scheme led by Wade Phillips, but they lack playmakers. Their secondary is very average and is last in the league in generating turnovers (and they like to make plays for other team with those PI calls).
Spencer, Ware, and Ratliff are great players but other than those 3, the rest of their linebackers and defensive lineman are just OK to average. Marcus Spears? Bradie James? Keith Brooking? Igor olshansky? The best talent in the NFL? Give me a break. These guys are adequate and play well in wade phillips' scheme, but they're not great players by any means nevermind the fact the cowboys don't even have a linebacker that can play in coverage or sideline-to-sideline (besides ware).
Their secondary isn't very impressive either. Alan Ball? Gerald Sensabaugh? Orlando Scandrick? Mike Jenkins? The best talent in the NFL? That's a joke! These safeties are average and the corners are average besides Newman -- but that's even debatable because most teams don't throw at his side because whoever scandick and jenkins are covering is open more often than not.
Overall, their defense lacks the playmaking that is necessary to be considered a dominant defense. They get some sacks but that alludes more to the defensive scheme as Phillips and his staff do a great job of disguising coverages and blitzes which leads to sacks. Talent-wise they are not that great. I refuse to dub this unit as one of the best in the NFL. They are last in the league in turnovers.
Offensively, they're a great unit. But I'd still give us the advantage even though they average 20 yards more than the Giants per game.
QB -- Romo has a very quick release, can go through his progressions fast, and does a good job of anticipating receivers getting open. He plays behind to the other team which causes him to get big yards passing by playing catch-up, skewing his stats even more. Romo is the textbook definition of a fantasy QB. But the guy is NOT clutch. Similar to Rodgers, he can't win close games. He turns the football over in the most critical quarter of the game and is not a QB you can trust in a game winning drive. More often than not, he is going to miss open receivers or throw interceptions. Since the cowboys are going to be in a lot of close game this year due to a tough schedule, they're probably going to lose all of them. 6-10 on the year a long shot? I'd give the advantage to Eli here.
RB -- 3 headed monster? I don't know why Cowboys fans like to dub their trio of RBs the best in the NFL. Especially before the season? What has Tashard Choice accomplished in his career to merit him a great back? His stats are good, especially in blowout games, but lets wait until he starters more than 2 games before you cowboys fans can consider him a great RB if he were to start on any other team. Marion Barber, like Jacobs, is a short yardage back, but he's not the same back he was in 07. I'd take Jacobs over Barber any day of the week as Jacobs is much harder to tackle and gets more yards with his body.
Bradshaw vs Felix Jones? Bradshaw is the superior back by far. Felix Jones is a good home run threat when he's in the open field, and can be explosive when gets to the second level, but he's mediocre in other phases of his game. He's a dancer. Instead of picking up the easy 3 yards, he looks to cut it outside and try to get some big yards. He plays undisciplined and is not a great between the tackles runner. Bradshaw is amazing. Bradshaw is a power runner, extremely quick, runs over people twice his size, the runs downhill, he keeps his legs moving when getting tackled, very good inside and outside runner, very patient, extremely good acceleration, and so many other things. The only negative is that he gets tackled from behind on long runs but that's OK.
OL - I don't need to get into this. The Giants offensive line is much, much better. Self-explanatory and I think cowboy fans can agree with this.
WR - I'll give the cowboys the edge here. Hakeem Nicks is having a great season but due to the fact that miles austin has accomplished more in his career, I think he gets the edge. Steve smith is one of the best route runners in the league, but Williams is more of a playmaker. Manningham has really improved in his awareness and route running this year so I'll take him anyday of the week over Bryant who is more potential than anything at this point. Just like JPP, guy has huge upside.
All in all, I'd say we're the superior team. Our CB combination of Webster (for the cowboy fans that don't know, he was the best CB in the league 2 years ago), Thomas, and Ross is better than Jenkins, newman, and scandrick. Our safety combination of Phillips, Rolle, and Grant is by far and away absolutely superior to Alan Ball and Sensabaugh. Not many teams can boast 3 safeties like the Giants can and the cowboys secondary has no playmakers. We at least have a nickel LB in Boley who's excellent in coverage and two pretty good adequate linebackers in Bulluck and Goff who aren't quite far off with Bradie James and Brooking. Our defensive line depth and rotation is superior. Our offensive line is superior. Our QB can win close games even though he doesn't have a cannon arm and release, which I'll take anyday. Our RBs are consistent. Overall, I'd say we're the better team as we proved it Week 14 last year when the giants got the cowboys best and the cowboys got the giants best. Nevermind the fact that guys were hurt and we were playing safeties off the street (which really helped the cowboys in that game).
We have much better talent and are the better team. Giants should win big this Monday effectively ending Dallas' season.

Eagles get Jerome Harrison
This kid was huge for the browns last year. He had some big games. I think this is a largely underrated move and makes the eagles a lot better, and more explosive on offense -_-. I guess the browns thought he was expendable with peyton hillis leading the charge down there.
With Vick back, this offense can be scary
Should the Giants pursue Marshawn Lynch?
I saw this in an article the other week and I thought it wasn't a bad idea.
It fills our projected need in the 2011 draft, which is probably a RB if Jacobs continues to decline or not stay healthy. Marshawn Lynch is a beast of runner who can move a pile with purely his amazing strength and VERY good yards after contact.
If during september-october lynch plays poorly, we can get him before the trade deadline (while his value is at his lowest) for a 3rd round pick and give him a fresh start? There are a lot of hypotheticals in this trade but I don't think it's honestly a half-bad idea.
Terrell Thomas vs aaron ross?
Like the LB situation, this happens to be another significant camp battle this year. Obviously Terrell Thomas stepped in and started last year because Ross was injured. Thomas played well during AR's time off. Ross came back and Coughlin didn't make a change at the CB position (or more because our safeties stunk)
To me -- it appears as if Thomas already stole his job seeing how TT's 2009 season was better than any of Ross' past seasons. A.R at times "flashes" his potential but he's very inconsistent. He had a below average year in 2008 and dealt with problems mentally too (motivation) and even questioned his desire to continue to play football. Thomas in his two years with the Giants has been an over-achiever, a hard worker, and showed some playmaking ability. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, I think Terrell Thomas IS the starter and Ross needs to get it back by himself. Thomas played last year like he deserved to be a unanimous starter in 2010 while barely anyone else did. I think the starting job in 2010 is not T2's to lose but for Ross to gain. If Ross can't get his starting job back next year, as a top 20 pick, he may be considered officially a bust. Not a bust as in "trade the man immediately", but a huge disappointment for what was expected of him. (He may even be already but it's too early)
Anyway that's my two cents on the whole thing. Who do you think starts as our #2 CB in 2010? Hell, you never know, Terrell and Ross both start and Webster fills the bench.
Something to help you feel better about Sean Lee
Here's an article that'll help you feel better about his injury problems:
http://blog.pennlive.com/bobflounders/2010/01/penn_state_linebacker_sean_lee_3.html
He's been working hard if you managed to skim through it. Just sayin' to the peeps who say he isn't worth a 2nd round pick because of his injuries. Don't forget about his knee surgery. It takes another year for full recovery.
I think Donald Butler might be a sleeper pick. The Giants may pull the trigger, but I think they might stay true to their board and might even draft a receiver if he's the highest player on their board. (You just never know
Could Weatherspoon create a locker room rift?
Sean Weatherspoon is a popular pick for many teams mainly because he'll be loved by the fans of the team that drafts him. Why? Because he's charismatic. He was the motivational leader of that defense at Missouri and he was a great locker room presence. This guy will be a camera junkie and the media will love him. He will be immediately a vocal player in the pros.
But I have some slight concerns over that. I mean, do you think Weatherspoon can rub some guys off the wrong way here -- with his attitude? If he gets drafted by us at 15 (which I think is a reach. He's a top 40 overall prospect, not 15), he's going to make millions and will likely become a starter seeing how he got drafted within the first round. Guys can possibly feel, regardless of that, Weatherspoon has zero credibility for being so outspoken and he might come off as cocky, arrogant, egotistical, and an asshole due to his style. Weatherspoon will immediately become a media whore and an on-field trash talker. Does our team really need a guy like that? Motivation-wise, I think the Perry Fewell hiring fixes that. Plus it's not like we have shy and quiet personalities on our team. Especially in the defensive-line room; it's crazy over there. Can Weatherspoon emotionally lead a group of guys like that by just being an outspoken trash talker? You saw it at the Senior Bowl, 'Spoon was hyping up the players there from the beginning by talking trash and all that nonsense (though he probably knows the seniors there very, very well.) He'll immediately have that kind of impact here: good or bad.
Weatherspoon's a great guy and all, but I prefer guys like McClain, Spikes, or Sean Lee. Quiet leaders that will lead by example and grow into their roles. I think Weatherspoon could possibly be rejected by the locker room for simply being a talker before playing the game. He's not a quiet man, that's for sure. It was already reported that teams removed Weatherspoon off their draft boards because he can impact a locker room in a negative way, and an anonymous GM claimed that he wouldn't even touch weatherspoon because he came off as conceited and brash during combine interviews. Weatherspoon will be a guy you'll really love, or really hate. Is that a risk? And it's not like Weatherspoon's going to play at a high level immediately at ILB. He doesn't shed blocks very well. What if he holds a contract holdout? (OK, most likely not. Just threw that in there)
I don't hate Weatherspoon, personally. I love him actually, and I would prefer to have him play on the outside instead of Boley, but I'm just trying to create some pre-draft discussion here.
Clint Sintim talks about himself and this season
I found a transcript on CBSSports of Clint Sintim talking about this season, his film study, preparation for next season, and much more. Surprised it hasn't made some articles out there (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/report/NYG/13146118/giants-report-inside-slant?tag=pageContainer;TeamNews):
--
Well if anything, I'm very excited for Sintim next season. He tackles low, tackles hard, very smart, and works hard. I would have him as the most improved player on defense this season, but that would be pretty much everyone not named Terrell Thomas
Ed makes a very good point
I saw that a lot of people weren't very high about the giants drafting Derrick Morgan because he wouldn't be starter, could potentially cause a rift, and there are much more needs rather than DE.
But he is the 5th or 6th BEST overall player in this draft on most boards. Some scouts have derrick morgan as the best defensive player in this draft behind eric berry.
As for playing time, it's not like anyone else not named Rolando McClain is going to start anyway (Unless reese thinks Weatherspoon can play MLB, which in my opinion, he doesn't.):
1. C.J Spiller: An explosive player who can make an immediate impact on special teams. Gilbride could also design some plays for him and use him on 3rd down to make mismatches against linebackers. It's not like C.J Spiller is going to become the featured back in our offense.
2. Brian Price: A lot of people love this guy. He has an extremely explosive first-step. But will he become a 3-down player in the NFL? Or at least a successful one from day 1? In my opinion, I don't really think so. He reminds me a lot of Osi. Osi had the 2nd most sacks in the country in college because of his explosive first-step, but its not like he's leading the NFL in sacks today. Brian Price, I feel, would come on the field on 3rd down alongside Jay Alford to effectively pressure the QB with both of their incredibly talented burst off the snap (I even believe Osi was training Alford in that department during the offseason. A combo of Price and Alford on passing downs would be sick).
I don't even think Price will start either, just a situational pass rusher just like Osi. (Although Osi will never accept the fact that he is.)
3. Earl Thomas: I don't think this should even be mentioned, really. But anyway, Earl Thomas would serve as competition, rotation, or insurance if KP doesn't stay healthy or Antrel Rolle doesn't pan out the way the Giants hope -- bah, I'll stop going on from here, you get my point here, Thomas wouldn't start.
4. Sean Weatherspoon: Sean Weatherspoon was considered a mid-2nd round prospect before he lit up the combine and is now projected to go as high as 15 overall, to us. Now, if we plan on using a Tampa-2 defense, Weatherspoon (or Angerer) would be a great addition with his excellent speed, range, and ball skills in coverage. But I don't think we'll run a Tampa-2 as our base defense. I think we'll just run a "multiple" front, just a mixture of everything. Our scheme will be unpredictable, and most importantly -- fit our talent's strengths. I'm not sure Weatherspoon will be a successful 4-3 ILB. He's not someone who can diagnose plays as well as McClain, or shed blocks consistently like a Sean Lee or McClain. Weatherspoon's a much better fit at OLB where can use his very, very impressive sideline to sideline speed to make tackles and fly around the football field. As an ILB, he's going to be shedding blocks more often than not. I just don't think Reese and Coughlin see him as our 4-3 MLB of the future, and we're committed to Michael Boley at OLB.
Unless Rolando McClain falls to 15, which will be a steal if he does, Derrick Morgan would be a very good pick for the Giants unless we trade down. He's one of the top 5 best overall players for the draft and has played all over the defensive line. He gets tired and worn down in games, so maybe he can thrive in our rotation. He can back-up and push Tuck similar to Kiwi and Osi at LE. It's not like Tuck doesn't tend to tire easily too. How many times have we seen him sucking air at the 4th quarter? They would make a combo. Plus I think Kiwi is definitely going to leave the Giants once free agency begins for him.
You can never have too many pass rushers.
Pat Angerer?
The guy isn't horrible. I think this Angerer would be a solid late 2nd to mid 3rd round pick. He flies around the football extremely well (Although its concerning how only half of his tackles are solo) and rarely misses tackles.
And seeing how, I assume, the Giants will play zone defense more often than not, Pat Angerer seems to fit that bill perfectly. He has 16 passes defensed in his two years as a starter. And 6 of the passes defensed, were INTs.
The only thing I hear that is keeping him from being drafted high, would be the fact that he is slightly undersized for a ILB (but he supposedly makes up for it with great insincts), needs to gain some weight, and might have "looked better than he is" because he played with an elite defense. Here's a video of some of his highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NpRbgzYTY0
I'd say he's underrated. I'm only posting this to see what you guys think. I can't find too much on this guy so I'm hoping someone might know more about him that I don't know. Think he would look good in Big Blue and contribute right away, or at least compete with Goff in training camp? Of course assuming a guy like McClain is out of reach. Oh and he's a natural MLB, something guys like Daryl Washington, aren't.
